I'm quite fond of anything from Charlie Chaplin, Modern Times in particular. It helps that Paulette Goddard is freakishly beautiful.

I was also intrigued by Citizen Kane, it wasn't really...fun, or very entertaining, but very interesting. But I absolutely loved Bicycle Thieves [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicycle_Thieves], an Italian film made in 1948. It was such a simple story, but it was very easy to relate and feel with the characters.

Nosferatu 1922

Best vampire film ever
I still have to see that, but even by just seeing pictures, I know that Nosferatu himself is the most creepy vampire ever. I'm sure I'll love it.

The Godless Girl, 1929, glorious little tale. Marie Prevost and Lina Basquette are stunners in the most refined sense.

Probably anything with Bogart, Casablanca being the most obvious choice. Sometimes the acting shows its age, but it really doesn't matter. Because Bogart is badassery incarnate.

That would probably be "Tuntematon Sotilas". It's a Finnish movie from 1955 that's about the Finnish Winter War.

Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai (1954). Absolutely awesome movie, although I think Yojimbo (1961) was better.
I'm partial to Rashomon (1950), myself.
Have you seen Hidden Fortress?
It's one of the major influences of the first Star Wars. Along with Seven Samurai and Yojimbo and the likes, all of them are jidai-geki. Some think that's where the term "Jedi" came from

By old films, I'm assuming that you mean pre-1970-ish. I'm going with Geisha Boy (Jerry Lewis), and Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

The original Star Wars films.

I prefer the newer bonds to the older ones if I'm honest - Connery was good; Moore wasn't; Lazenby... No; Brosnan was really good; Craig is the best. They're all sort of jumbled into one big mash (minus Brosnan's and Craig's) so I can't really comment on which film specifically (and what year it is).

Can't think of anything older.

I haven't seen the film, but I'm aware that Lucas partially based the concept of the Jedi on the Samurai, especially in terms of the spiritual components and the warrior's connection to his weapon.

Quite like Nosferatu, which was 1922. Stuff before then, I don't really 'like', but I appreciate, such as Eisenstein's work. It's horrible to watch, but you can't help but nod your head at how important it is.
I don't know, I kinda like to see the photoelectric effect. His theories on the motion of bodies in the sky really makes alot more sense than earlier, less refined theories.

Oh? Are you another of those people who thinks that einstein 'invented' the atomic bomb? Well, you are wrong.

As for older films... Maybe the original star wars, what you kids nowdays like to call 'A new hope'. Oh, there are a couple other older sci-fi flicks I enjoy, but nothing keeps me coming back for more like star wars. We could put A clockwork Orange there too. I'm sure I'm neglecting some bond flicks.

Edit: oops, I guess you mean this guy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergei_Eisenstein
I figured you were making a reference to an atomic bomb being a disaster like older movies, and you could not spell, like 70% of the people on forums.

I adore the Hidden Fortress...and it's so clear where the R2-D2/C3P0 chemistry came from after watching it. And the fight with the spears is masterful.
