This should be in the games forum.

F.E.A.R. is startling, and sometimes a little creepy... outright scary, it didn't do it for me. Same as Dead Space really and Doom 3 also had a few moments. There was a game, I do not recall its name and it was set in an old mantion, written by a novel writer and very scary.
was it the one where u need to take pictures of ghosts?
I remember that game, Fatal Frame, or Project Zero in Japan.

FEAR and the expansion packs. FEAR 2 wasn't scary at all (neither was Doom 3). And Penumbra (the very little I've played of it)...

I haven't really played a lot of scary games, hence why stuff like Thief 3 is in my top 3 of 'scariest games ever played'. The Seventh Guest is probably on spot one (though I haven't played that since I was 6 or so - back then it was probably scary because I was young) with vague snippers of memory about Phantasmagoria taking up the third spot.

Playing Silent Hill 2 on a foggy night, starting at 11 pm after my finals for that semester.

Slept with the lights on after that. The only other time I did that was after watching Gremlins when I was 4.

Silent Hill one, i consider a game scary when i'm afraid of the atmosphere enough to not want to move forward, not the fear i'm going to get startled *coughdoom3residentevilcough*

I'm always ashamed to admit this I've played the hell out of Nazi Zombies and its never scared me once, well there was one time when I was playing by my self and a zombie didn't screech until it was right behind me, my heart skipped a beat there. Yet it never really scared I was just focused on scoring and buying weapon. But hearing the hollow-men spawn off-screen in Fable II for some reason I found really unnerving.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. That freaked me out the first time I played it.
yeah, the whole sanity thing should have been copied by more games in my book. My pick would be silent hill 2, simply b/c of the sound design. also condemned, mostly because it does better what fear wanted to do

Eternal Darkness was the only game that ever sacred the shit out of me. I got it about a month after it came out. Lost almost all of my sanity because I never did finishers. Wandered through the mansion whacked out of my mind. People knocking on the doors, walls bleeding, menu blue-screening. Make it to the famous bathtub scene. Get past Jacob's chapter, fix the circuit breaker, lights come on, and it's another bathroom. "Yeaaaahhh... I'm not going in there." Didn't play it for like 4 days.
I was wondering if anyone was going to mention that bathtub. That's serious business man. It freaked me out bad.

I'll never be the same again after playing that...
I saw thing's man, horrible things that no man should see.
Guys, shut up about it, but I ACTUALLY own that game.

It... isn't all that bad, sans the story and gameplay focus.

Oh yeah, it isn't technically mine, but it's in my games rack.

I consider Resident Evil Remake on the Gamecube pretty scary for, say, the first 2 playthroughs....damn hunters following me through doors.

Silent Hill 1 and 2.

In the first one the graphics, and their likeness to a square ass make it just look more other-worldly and messed up.

the second one had a much more creepy environment. And I was scared because I was expecting to be attacked and the usual horrible things to happen.. but most of the time it never happened. Those are my favorite kind of games- and movies i guess, when it comes to horror

Good times. I watched my dad play RE;2 and Nemesis, before going off to ace it myself. I Love resident evil, right down to the dodgy camera angles.

I get pretty anxious playing BioShock. It's just so damn dark and anything can jump out at you.

I haven't played a lot of scary games, mostly because I have a sister with an overactive imagination who would probably not want to sleep for a month if she walked in on me while playing Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, Eternal Darkness, etc. Almost any psychological horror movie, game, or whatever will freak her out if it has ghosts in it. That's why I'm thinking about checking out Resident Evil at some point, because zombies don't really freak her out that much. By the way, she's a Sophomore in high school and still has this problem. I partly blame it on the fact that she's very creative. She has a hard time controlling where her mind goes when she's seen something that freaks her out.

Anyway, the only really "scary" games I've ever played are BioShock and Doom 3. BioShock didn't freak me out that bad most of the time, but the dentist in the Medical Pavilion almost made me crap my pants! My dad has always loved the Doom series, his favorite game being Doom 2. The first two Doom games really weren't that scary in my opinion, but I wasn't expecting the darker, creepier atmosphere of Doom 3. Being used to the generic run and gun of the first two Doom games, I was totally unprepared for enemies popping out of nowhere and Imps dropping down from the ceiling. I know it mostly relied on jump scares, but they got me every time. To be honest, I never made it that far into Doom 3 because my computer at the time was so slow that the game would lock up every ten minutes. I might eventually reinstall it on my newer, much faster computer and pick it up again.

That bit in Metal Gear Solid when the general starts spouting random shit, telling you to turn off the game freaked me out the first time. Also dead space has very atmospheric noises, things clanking and lights going out add to the brown trouser factor.

I find the kamikaze guys in Infamous suprisingly scary. For me it's worth a mention because every other scary game i've played has just been things jumping at the screen.

Those guys though you're just walking casually and then you hear a "HARGGGHH" behind you and you panic trying to find where it is before it blows you up, you need to see it for yourself really ^^
