"Playing video games leads to you killing people in real life". Yeah, by that same argument Mario makes me want to jump on people and eat mushrooms so I'll double in size, and Dragonball Z will make me fly and shoot energy beams out of my hands by screaming "turtle wave" in Japanese.

Wow that response involved a lot of turtles. Guess I'll continue by saying TMNT will make me fat because it makes me think pizza is a nutritious food source, oh wait that's congress.
I want to fly and shoot energy beams out of my hands by screaming "turtle wave" in Japanese.

Sounds like fun.

The waste of time argument, especially by people who spend all week talking about what they watched on tv. Got to love the flawed logic in that argument.

The most common one I hear is something along the lines of "it's a waste of time" or "I have more important things to do."

Please. No one other than the fucking Batman spends all of their free time doing "productive" activities. Everyone needs time to relax, and games do that.

I can't say that I have had any real issue with it. Most of the major ones have already been listed. All I can think of in my personal life is this time my dad asked me why I waste my time with video games. I asked why he wastes his time with television, books, movies, alcohol, or anything else. Funny enough, my mom agreed with me.

actully I just rememberd..

I read in an article/interveiw about some writer who wrote some confronting stuff (I dont know if it was the deer hunter or somthing) but yeah.."good" but violent and all that

they got the "your work influencing others" argument we so often here...to which he replay reasonably enough....but THEN he went on to say

"but VIDEOGAMES..they are what cause violence"

I find it hilarious he defends "his" medium but uses another as a scapegoat...dumbass

"They are a complete waste of time and contribute nothing to you, society or anything for that matter" - my mom while playing internet poker.

Need I say more? Other than that I'm tired of people assuming that I'm going to be some sort of horrible murderer/racist/inhuman/robot beast because I play videogames. If anything, I've gotten more sensitive (have a horrible blood/gore problem, can't really watch horror movies for this reason, even small hospital scenes in television shows have me hiding under covers).

Honestly, because there are other hobbies that are soooo much better, like collecting stamps, or baseball cards.... The only hobby that I can see really helping anyone out would be charity hobbies, like if you like building houses for say Habitat for Humanity, or serving meals at a Soup Kitchen, people do do these things as hobbies, but not most, most certainly not all, and what other hobbies really contribute anything other than a good time?

I remember being told that video games make you a violent psycho.
I play all sorts of notably violent games, yet I am a gentle and well-adjusted man.
Figure that.

Also, does the thread name refer to worst as in "Most poorly done" or worst as in "Makes it out to be the biggest, baddest monster of all" ?
Seems to be pretty ambiguous.

I'm going to have to back up the Mass Effect/Sexbox thing on Fox a while back. Because even unhinged lunatics ranting about wild fantasies have a certain insane internal logic to them. Games make you want to kill people? Well you murder things in games. There is a simulated act of violence that at least bears something of a resemblance to real violence. There are traits that can be recognized on both sides of the assumptions/conclusions. Sometimes its a bit like a postmodern story, but there is at least a thread, an association, a shitty Rorschach test holding them together. But the Sexbox thing...just no. There was no even vague similarities between Mass Effect and Porn. And while details in other crazy ramblings are cobbled together wild assumptions based on vauge observation, the Mass Effect scandal relied on blatantly invented, highly detailed specifics that bore no semblance to reality, and implied a deep familiarity with the topic when reality was that there was literally no exposure to it whatsoever. Ill say that a Jack Thompson accusation is crazy and dishonest, but the Mass Effect thing was literally surreal.

gaming makes you stupid???ha...considering some games are VERY complex...and any non-gamer who tries to pick a standard game (not wii play or the like)..like dead space is going to be completley lost..Id say otherwise

anyway It may have been she thourght I couldnt drag myself away from the computer to work...which I find even more insulting (not to badmouth mother shes cool with it now)

My mother, on a teacher who plays video games:

"I don't think someone can effectively teach while being interested with something so childish.
