Whats the worst thing you've seen somebody do on a bus?

I was in a student city at university (Leeds, northern UK), so for me the most common sort of thing to see on the bus were drunk students. Near my hometown, things are generally okay, just a few loud idiots, but nothing too bad. In Leeds though, something I noticed was that people up north tend to be much nicer and friendlier than people in the South or in the Midlands (where I'm from, and currently live) - yeah, the stereotypes about Northerners are in fact wrong. So much so that I'm trying to find a job in Leeds so I can move back up there permanently. Anyway, I tended to use the bus either during the day, or late at night after work. In the day, things were fine, but very crowded on my usual bus route. After work? My bus journey followed most of the route of the so-called 'Otley Run', probably the biggest (or at least the most famous) pub crawl in the north of England. So I would usually end up having to share a bus with twenty or so drunk students talking loudly and singing drunken songs at the tops of their voices...

To be fair though, being a student myself at the time, I would have been there drinking with them if I hadn't been at work :p.

Nothing really bad has ever happened on the bus near me. A couple of drunks and loud kids is about the worst of it. Then again I play my Ipod and block it out so I tend not to notice.

hmmm... what kind of disgusting?

Physically it was when the friend next to me garbled down a giant-sized monster on a greyhound in the mountains and I watched him begin to spurt at the mouth with foam before upchucking out the window and watching the remains slowly dribble down the side, either freezing or getting pulled away by snow.

Come off it. It's perfectly valid to, upon observing something over and over, to assume that it will remain the same. The "every single one" argument is useless.

yeah in my country gypsies are not a good thing. Sorry if i sounded racist.
Hello, part-Romani (gypsy) here. Please don't generalize.

Well, I travel to work by bus, and not too long ago I was sitting in a seat that basically has another set of seats facing you. Well I sat there and this overweight lady smelling of old booze and ashtray sat in front of me. Well, I just continued to listen to my (not-stolen) iPod and looked out the window until suddendly she sneezes. Only that she didn't face away from anyone, nor did she cover it up with a hand or anything. So yeah, thanks for the slime-bath, lady.
Could be a country thing. Here they prefer to live on the outside with shacks they make (like a shanty town). The president and the region district managers gave them houses, but they all end up fuckign things up (getting ways to get money from the free homes they got), and go back to the shacks...

In here i never saw a gypsie that didn't steal or beat people up. There are some kids in the area that beat up a women just because she didn't gave her cigars. Also another man who was beeing mugged kicked 4 gypsies ass (he was a fighter, not sure if takewdo or something else), and they just got all the family with maces and firearms and beat the man to a pulp. Even little kids were kicking the man when he was in the floor.

It was rather discussing to see that kind of crap. Even i got kicked, mugged and almost killed by them.

So sorry if i dislike gypsies a lot... it's not a unreaseneble hate... it's a true hate created by things they've done that i've seen and that they've doned to me.

So yeah... sorry.
Don't forget that that kind of behavior comes from generation after generation of being labeled as violent thieving wastes of space, being the most prosecuted and prejudiced group of people in the planet doesn't exactly give them a whole lot of opportunity, which leads to poverty, crime, etc, it all comes from somewhere
Yeah i guess with the state giving them houses and giving theyre kids opportunities of study doesn't get ahold with the fact that they trash and sell the houses and do not let the kids go beyond 4th grade. That and the payment the state gives them for food and child support also doesn't get well togheter of them keeping and steal food at the markets and steal people for whatever they have...

But you know... they have all the right to be violent and give a stab here and there... even though they are treated has kings...

But i do love when shit hits the fan and they shoot a police and still act like they are the innocent, the police just became a swiss cheese because the man felt like it...

Bottoms point they are given all the opportunities to live better then others on my country. They chose not to, and decided to steal and destroy. I do not feel sorry at all...

If they are labeled has a criminal shouldn't they work against that label? Just because you played Assassin's Creed Revelations and developed a soft spot for them, doesn't mean that i should to, according to the crap they've pulled against me and others, things that i've seen and that were done to me.

But no... you are right... they have total rights to be bad people, cuz you know labels and lack of opportunities and all, so you HAVE to be right...

I mad...

Irish traveller? What the F*** are you talking about? I have never seen a irish traveller in my whole life...

I only have school bus stories. This one kid tried to wipe his buggers on me on the bus in kindergarten. He later punched me in the face. When I was 8th grade, there was this group of kids who thought it was hilarious when one of two girls liked to sit next to me and pretend she was my girlfriend. The bus driver knew my sister and called the house about it. I said it was fine. I liked the attention. Also, in fifth grade a girl asked me if this other girl in my class was my girlfriend. I said nothing. The girl from my class who I never talked to and didn't know at all preceded to describe in detail why I was such a complete loser. Good times.

As far as the bus goes, Epic Beard Man takes the cake. Mostly because that was on a bus that drops off right in front of my work =/

Now if we're talking things I've personally witnessed on BART (Bay Area rapid transit), I've seen a guy with blood on his jacket (most likely not his) sitting calmly, a 12 year old kid steal an old woman's iphone and nobody getting up to help her or to catch him, a guy dressed in a black cloak who told me I needed to make sure I "look like a wizard" before the end of the world comes (he liked my long goatee that I had at the time apparently) and I've seen a full scale drag show on one of the cars.

Yeah...imo BART > buses as far as crazies in the Bay Area go...

Oh, and to add to my previous post, the bus service is on strike, or most of it, and so there are about 100 people crammed into a place where there should only be about 50. I am usually unable to move at all.

Good lord...This thread is making a good example of why I refuse to use public transportation; even with my pro stance on environmentalism. The last time I took the bus, it was the school bus and nothing really sticks out well enough for me to remember.
The problem with public transportation is the public.

Same thing with public housing and public schools.

Assuming that the traits of the people you encounter are, as a rule, inherent in any other people that happen to fall into the same ethnic division is entirely unreasonable. And it's nothing like observing something over and over and over and coming to the conclusion that it will remain the same, especially not when we're discussing the nature of human beings, who are both fairly unpredictable and capable of freedom of choice as to how they behave.
Which rarely manifests. I find people to be quite easy to predict.

And you're ignoring the whole part he mentioned about them living together under different societal structure and social context. Stunningly enough, condition of growth has a very major (and equalizing) effect on behavior. See: gangs.

There are two types. At no point did you clarify which one you were talking about, I assumed the Irish traveller variant since they got discussed a lot in these forums. But hey, just delete the type I mentioned and insert the one you were talking about, still the same argument.

Considering the person who i was talking to deleted what i wrote, and you could always go back to the first page and see what i wrote, let me clarify you and say i was speaking about gypsies....

I never since the beggining EVER talked about Irish Travellers and i never encountered one...

I was about to amend my post to fit that, because it's a good point and you make it well. It owuld be fair to assume that if people grow up in a particular environment then they'll most likely exhibit the same type of group thinking, especially if they're fairly deprived (either through choice, personal failure or circumstance) people.

However, you can't say it's likely that someone holding the title of gypsy will exhibit the same traits unless you know for a fact that they belong to the same type of environment.

Am I nitpicking? I'm nitpicking aren't I. It's just there's a fine line between reasonable assumptions and racism, and it's one I think is important to define. Cheers for the response anyway.
Yeah, you're nitpicking. :p

Thanks for not setting me on fire, though.
