I've been following Brink for a while now, and I can't wrap my head around why they aren't hyping their most unique feature.
It's a defier of genre. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNvuQUFft08]
It's a semi-linear, objective-based, heavily team-focused multiplayer RPG, driven by deep narrative [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z48yYGfsW1I&playnext=1&list=PL5F4A830D46224A58], and a class-based, FPS with a duel-faction system.

Also, it's made by some Very passionate developers [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmmpadsBEjs&feature=related]

Here's a massive 4 part interview [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVHaUfGUF3A]

Oh, it comes out tomorrow in the US, by the way. 13th in EU and AU.

I'm very excited. It sells itself as a multiplayer action shooter that boasts RPG style immersion.
Sounds great to me! It also doesn't track K/D or any stats other than how much you've buffed your teammates, and how often you've helped your team.

Are you advertising the game? Cripe.

Anyways, while certain parts of the game are different, I'm very hesitant to call it a "defier of the genre". Reminds me of the Bad Company 2 classes with some of the powers, and whether the game is actually competent has yet to be seen. It's hard to balance a game, that's why you have to be careful.

It looks cool, yes, but don't lose your mind over it quite yet. Wait for the reviews to come in.

Remember the Silver Rule of Release Dates: "Early adopters always get screwed".

Just because it's a good idea doesn't mean it's gonna work.

In fact, if it doesn't work the chances are it's gonna fall hard on it's ass.

Ign gave it a whopping 6.0; ouch.
I kinda feel like I dodged a bullet with that one since I sat on Direct 2 Drive's sale last night for like 30 mins before I decided I wanted to wait and see.

Damn, and I was hoping that it would turn out decent too. Well, my hopes weren't THAT high, but I still was looking forward to it.

I had the same almost moment, just for Steam instead. Looks like my caution paid off, eh?

It looks like Mirror's Edge if it were more militarized and multiplayer. And they actually got things right with the two sides for once. Nobody ever thinks they're wrong and goes on with it anyway.

EDIT: Pretty sure they based the movement system off of mirror's edge as well, didn't they?

The one thing that bothers me about Brink is "Escape the Ark". Are they being kept there unwillingly? It's not clear, but judging by their access to military hardware, I'm pretty sure they can also get a boat or 20 to get people off.

Ya if you want to trust ign for your games reviews.....
Joystiq gave it a 40, commented that it 'fell on it's face'. Yikes. Might not be the blockbuster I was hoping for. Good thing I didn't preorder it. Here I come, L.A Noire!

EDIT: Wait, IGN hasn't reviewed the game yet. What?

And yet Eurogamer gave it an 8/10... http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-10-brink-review?page=2

Tell you what, pick two games you wish to buy that are out at the same time. Buy Brink, and if it's not as good as it was cracked up to be (I've been following this game for a long time now, so bad times if it isn't) return it and get the other game.

You know who's the best reviewer? You.

Guys, do you seriously read IGN reviews?
Joystiq and Eurogamer would be more trustworthy, so it's decent at best..for now..and according to reviews.
Watch gameplay videos, look at it at a friend's place, ask around to people who played it on forums. Make your own opinion of the game! Don't just assimilate "official" reviews of the game...

Ya they have.http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/116/1166987p1.html
Also I would agree sounds like everyone is reviewing low so probally will just wait till L.A Noire
Don't wanna sound rude, but who the hell is everyone? http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/brink sounds good to me. Eurogamer liked it too. For now, IGN (hah!) and Joystiq (fine that one is legit) gave bad reviews.

The only unique thing I see about it is just how uniquely horrible the character designs are.

When it comes right down to i every else is pretty much the same or very minor.

Just because the developers emphasize teamwork does not mean people will play that way.

Im not sure, i mean i want the game but it seems it will be overshadowed by the damn CoD crowd, i dont want to pay £40, for this game's multiplayer to fall flat on it's feet.

How original it is doesn't matter to most consumers. It is all about how entertaining and polished it is and so far it doesn't look like it is.

Its an experiment in lots of ways, which i think is great. Just making it might just bring something of value to FPSes, even if the game dosent really take off.

Phht.

It's not original and it's definitely not unique.

It's an online FPS (i.e. the most stale genre of our time). It's basically Team Fortess 2 with a splash of Mirror's Edge.

Also, "deep narrative" my arse. Sure, blurring the line between narrative-driven single player and competitive multiplayer sounds good in promotional videos. But in practice mixing a story-driven campaign and the chaotic teabag frenzy of online FPSing is like trying to mix wine-tasting with kickboxing.

However, that doesn't make it bad. I personally think it will be worth getting. Hell, I have the sucker pre-ordered and pre-loaded.
