Yesterday while playing some Call of Duty Black Ops with my friends late at night I got in a lobby with some people from the UK. I started talking with my friend and was greeted with

"Shut up ye, fat American!"

After I muted the kid that said that and said to my friend "God damn, that was uncalled for."

One of the kids friends out of the blue said something that fucking pissed me off. He literary said "Thank god for 9/11, you deserved it you fat bastards." I mean what the fuck? I did nothing to provoke them and I didn't even say anything to piss the kids off. I mean seriously why bring 9/11 up at all? After muting the entire other team I realized I'd be playing on yellow bar and my friend and I left.

So we join in another game and it's a lobby with about 1/2 people from Europe and 1/2 Americans, as soon as I join I hear a kid from the UK arguing with a person from the UK about how America saved Britain's ass in WW2 and I remembered hearing that same exact argument about 20 times in the last few weeks. Wtf is with people from America and Europe picking fights with each other?
Half the time it's uncalled bullshit any way.

I KNOW PEOPLE FROM THE UK DON'T ALWAYS START THE FIGHTS I'VE BEEN IN PLENTY OF GAMES WHERE AMERICANS START SHIT WITH BRITISH PEOPLE, I'M JUST USING MY EXPERIENCE FROM LAST NIGHT AS AN EXAMPLE.

TLDR: Why do people from the UK and America always pick fights with each other on Xbox live(and maybe PSN I don't own a PS3)

And BTW why the hell is WW2 and McDonalds always brought into the equation (I mean seriously fast foods and a huge fucking war that killed millions belong in the same argument?)

I cannot relate to any UK foul-mouths. I'm too busy dealing with all the French and Polish/Russian IDK on PSN. I keep coming across them and they can be real pricks. No offense.

To be honest, it just seems to be the competitive nature of games like Call Of Duty etc. that provokes a lot of people into trash-talking. Not sure why, but it's the same in all kinds of competitive sports as well.

Why say things about 9/11, WW2 and Americans being fat...my guess would be that they believe this would be the things that would provoke the other guy the most. That and stereotyping. According to a variety Xbox 360 users, I'm constantly drunk, wear skirts, shout FREEDOM!!! every 5 seconds have sex with sheep, eat haggis, play the bagpipes, go caber tossing, shoot up heroin, get underage girls pregnant and so on. All just because I'm Scottish. And (generally) proud of it.

Blimey! What's all this then?

OT: Hell, I don't know. America doesn't tend to play well with others, and others don't tend to play well with it. I would hesitate to point fault at any of the groups.

However, the perfect retort to them bringing up McDonalds is simply "Fish and chips"

I was reading your post thinking, "stupid stereotypes." Then I saw this. I am really confused, when did heroin become a Scottish stereotype? Also, thought the sheep shagging was a Welsh stereotype. Does it go both ways?

At first when I read that I didn't realize you were quoting part of his comment and thought somebody had given me the advice to shoot up heroin to help people stop from being dicks.

On second thought that MIGHT help.

I don't know what god tier Xbox Live you're playing, but I couldn't buy a matchmaking lobby with UK/European players.

Guess I'm doomed to American host/yellow bar central for the rest of my life.

OT: It's the internet, it will happen on a frequent basis. Be glad you have a mute feature.
I never get an American host, usually French or German. I think Xbox is purposefully making everyone get low latency by giving us hosts from other countries.

Too funny, I'll edit it.

I'm just saying that's what people have called me on Live combined with some of the various other Scottish stereotypes...I think it may be due to Glasgow's problems with heroin but I couldn't say for certain...like I said it was mainly combined with your typical Scottish stereotypes

Sheep-shagging is considered mainly a Welsh stereotype I would agree, but Aberdeen-shire area of Scotland is "known" (probably not the right word but nevertheless) for sheep-shagging as well

Sadly, this seems to be a pervading trend in games. There is a lengthy section in the User Agreements that describe this exact problem with online gaming, but there are two problems:

1 - Many do not read the User Agreements, so they don't know what is against the rules. This means more and more people will act how they are treated, not how they should be acting.

2 - The reporting features available on Xbox Live are being ignored. Since most games include a way to filter who you are playing against and whether or not you hear their voices, most players don't consider using these reporting procedures. Because of this, players who are blatantly acting against the User Agreements do not have enough reports piled up against them to warrant action from Microsoft. Add in the fact that the consequences are actually quite weak, and there is no fear for anyone who is acting against the User Agreements.

Until the entire community understands what the User Agreements entail, these individuals who find entertainment in picking fights with others will not leave. They will only grow.

I wonder what it is with Xbox Live in general; not to go all PC gaming master race on you guys, but I've never seen a PC game with a community as bad as the average console game. If I had to guess why, I'd say it's the fact that dedicated servers are generally well moderated, whereas Xbox Live and the PSN are barely moderated at all. People tend to be a bit calmer when you can get kicked out of the game for being an asshole, and if they aren't, well, they get banned, and the other players still don't have to deal with them.

It's pretty much just to provoke you. Any griefers (no matter where they are from) say things they know will probably get to you. And making fun of peoples nationality/race/religion/family is something that usually gets the job done. Sometimes a lot, and sometimes a little. Because deep down people always take at least a little pride, even if it's just a smidgen, in any or all of those things. I can usually brush it off and ignore the griefing, but deep down I can't help but feel a scratch of irritation. It just never comes to the surface. {Edit: The reason 'why' is because they think if they enrage you, it'll knock you off your game and you'll spend more time being angry and arguing then playing and winning. Forgot to add that here. lol}

It reminds me of my friend. He was playing Halo multiplayer (as he usually always does) and this happened:

Halo Noob: "I had your mom for five dollars."
Him: "My real momma's a three-dollar hooker, so she over charged you."

The guy pretty much shut up after that. He had nothing to counter it, because he was not at all prepared for the response. lol It was hilarious.

for the most part, most games that are low to non-team based fps tend to be griefing grounds, and since xbox is known for some of the best console fps and teen to pre-teens. it's high chance there are a ton of idiots and griefers.
I love battlefield 2 because of it's lower chances. I rarely get griefing in them. but not impossible, because it's the internet anyways and there will always be people who exist for those things (like youtube and the 100% chance there will be 1 person who doesn't like it. just because they can.)

everyone always tries to be my friend on xbla

especially when i post threads of this nature in the video game discussion forum.
I posted here because I figured it didn't really have to do with the game but the fact that the people on these games engage people from other countries with extreme hostility without being provoked and the fact that people are stereotypical pieces of shit. In my opinion this has nothing to do with the game, but the people on the within the social part of the game (voice chat) which doesn't really have to do with the game or xbox live at all. In short people are dicks to people from other countries, and I think it's weird that just because somebody talks slightly different then you, you should start screaming about 9/11. Same exact think could happen on skype or ventrillo and I wouldn't blame World of Warcraft (I used to play this game and used those for communicating with my guildmates who I didn't always get along with) for making me raid with these people I'd blame the people on the mics for being dicks.

They don't annoy me because I counter troll them and I'm pretty good at it too. nothing is better than a little kid who thinks he's all that and acts so arrogant only to be completely annhilated by me and then I mock him much like what he was doing a few moments ago.
