I miss the reach beta... That was a good game If only a taste.
MW2 can be fun but it has too many problems that no one's rushing to fix.
Modders and rapid fire controllers, dodgy physics and horrible over priced map packs with shitty servers that cut out when I'm about to get another nuke...
I get the sense IW don't care for their games anymore and just let them fall apart while they wheel out the next half built game for activision.
Thats why I hold Halo and Bungie in such high esteem. The only problem in halo 3 is the beat downs but it's not as bad a cod.

Yeah and sniping with ghillie suits is almost useless when the textures in the distance don't load till I've scoped in making people stick out like a swore thumb.

Well for one, I felt the Campaign wasn't worth 60 bucks (I judge games based on Single Player alone. I don't buy for the Multiplayer.). Sure, plenty of the levels felt unique, but I still prefer Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1 to MW2 and when you prefer the prequel to the sequel, then the developing team screwed up along the lines somewhere. The biggest thing that killed it for me though was the Veteran Difficulty. Let me tell you a little story, from Call of Duty 3 to WaW, I have loved the Veteran Difficulty. It is annoying and frustrating at times, but when I finally get past a part that has been haunting me for days, I feel fantastic. The problem with MW2 is....the Veteran Difficulty isn't that tough. I played the game and beat it in 3 days on my first playthrough....and I did it on Veteran. That was a big bummer to me.

Spec-ops...ya, those were fun. For about 5 minutes that is. They are broken down into four objectives out of a total of maybe 25. There is the Escort mission, the Survive a set number of waves mission and then there is the Stealth mission and finally there is the ever so pain in the ass of Race to the end missions.

Multiplayer? Ya, like I said earlier, I don't judge games by Multiplayer. I fully believe that the single player needs to hold up the game on it's own and Multiplayer should be a little side thing to keep the player interested.

Overall, it's not that bad a game, but at the same time I can't say that it is good.

Campaign is five hours long. When I spend 70 dollars on a game I want the developers to at least try with the single-player. Sure there were some pretty locales, but thats it. The rest of it was far too generic and far too short.

The experience of the multiplayer is this 'Get on, get killed by three different campers, one camper gets chopper gunner and decimates team as soon as they respawn, other camper gets AC-130, last camper gets nuke, quit game, never play again'.

Spec-ops is fun though.
Basically, this. Also, the story had little explanation. SPOILERS: First, why did the General go rogue (granted, money and power but that seemed kinda tacked on and not really explained. Basically, I wanted more preturn interaction with him so I can suspect the upcoming betrayal.) Why did Price blow the Nukes? Um, there's a bunch of others. In short, people are used to FPS storyline being somewhat simple (i.e. Nazis are bad, shoot them, as in the prior COD games) or, if you want to get fancy with it, they make sense.

Also, as with many games, the online is damaged by the immature fools who wont STFU. This is made worse because of the popularity of the game which attracted this distasteful crowd.

The internet was made for hating things.

For example, Halo, Apple, MW2, Motion controls, the PSP, well...pretty much everything.

Horrific balancing issues *coughOne Man Army+noobtubecough* or the fact that half of the people playing it are either whining bitches or showboating assholes.

Those who haven't played the game deserve to hate it based on Activision's/Infinity Ward's decision to cut dedicated servers and raise the price, both of those reasons are:"Because they can" so people can bash the game "Because they can"

Those who have played the game can bash it on it's short length, contrived story, overhyped conterversy level, unbalanced multiplayer and shitty lag(Thanks to non-dedicated servers)

The game is the same game, every single time, with new map packs and some other changed crap. It IS still crap. Just like with madden, but with guns, and someone forgot to put it in color.
Thats probably the most generic complaint you could possibly make about any FPS. You probably dont even own the game in the first place and having never played it how can you say its completely generic granted I hate the game too but for valid reasons(Spawning under care packages is my number 1 gripe)

[small]and unleashing the fury in 3...2...1...[/small]

Why the fuck do you care what other people think of things that you like? Why isn't the fact that you like it ever good enough for you people? Why can't you just accept the fact that there will always be people, maybe a lot of people, who disagree with your personal fucking tastes? And if you can't accept it, then will you please, for love of Jesus Christ Our Holy Lord and Savior, STOP MAKING TOPICS TO ASK ABOUT IT?!

Right, now that that's over with, a few side notes.
1. If you think that was bad, just imagine it in all caps with [ h1] brackets. I made a judgement call and took them out, but damn...It was kind of awe-inspiring.
2. I'm using the phrase "for the love of Jesus Christ our holy lord and savior" here ironically. I got it from a teacher who said it all the time around Christmas just to mock the whole "not allowed to say Christmas, got to say Happy Holidays" thing. My point is, don't go calling me a religious nut-job, because I happen to be an athiest.
And,
3. I realize that caps-lock is frowned upon here. I'm just really fucking sick of these "Why do people hate___?" topics.

Hey, just for funsies, here's what it looks like in all caps and huge, red text: (For fun! come on, mods, you can let it slide!)

[HEADING=1]WHY THE FUCK DO YOU CARE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK OF THINGS THAT YOU LIKE? WHY ISN'T THE FACT THAT YOU LIKE IT EVER GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU PEOPLE? WHY CAN'T YOU JUST ACCEPT THAT THERE WILL ALWAYS BE OTHER PEOPLE, MAYBE MANY OTHER PEOPLE, WHO DISAGREE WITH YOUR PERSONAL FUCKING TASTES? AND IF YOU CAN'T ACCEPT IT THEN WILL YOU PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF JESUS CHRIST OUR HOLY LORD AND SAVIOR, STOP MAKING TOPICS TO ASK ABOUT IT????!!!!!![/HEADING]

[small]I'm sorry, please don't ban me....[/small]

EDIT: Ok, looking at now, I realize it was mistake. However, I make no apologies.
Except the one, like, 2 centimeters ^^thataway.

EDIT#2: Actually it's a lot less then 2 centimeters, but that isn't really the point-I'm gonna go now.

Yes, the campaign is totally bad-ass. Yes, the gameplay is fun. But saying the online system trumps them, well that's just blasphemy. Maybe if you live somewhere with fibre-optic internet, but here in New Zealand we get crappy internet with shitty lag everywhere. The matchmaking system is ridiculously broken and I honestly don't know why they didn't include dedicated servers (and yes I know that point has been brought up a ridiculous amount of times but still...).

Anyway, I'll just lighten the mood and post a linksy [http://kotaku.com/5545921/but-what-if-valve-made-modern-warfare-2] to this fun little dream of if Modern Warfare 2 was made by Valve which I'm sure has been linked before but oh well.
Now if you don't mind, I'm off to play Modern Warfare 2, because despite all it's multiplayer flaws, it's damn addictive...

MW2's online was supposed to take Halo 3's place since I sold my Xbox for a PS3. Big mistake. Dying from one shot from a camper or a noobtuber is not what I consider fun. Now I gotta buy an Xbox again, especially for Halo Reach.

It's a shite game and people can't wait to praise it. Then you go online and you get idiots who think its cool to just use every weapon as a close range assault tool.

like those pricks who think quickscoping is so pro. If you're gonna do it like that, blindfire. I remember playing sniper on older games like Halo 1. Sure, I could use it at close range, but as a last resort. Not go "HAI GUISE, I PICKED SNIPER FOR CLOSE ASSAULT BECAUSE I R SO PRO LOLOLOL". But nah, the days of playing together as a team is gone. Besides team fortress 2, which I am so grateful to have picked up.

Oh and dont bother picking at my response, you guys praise it for realism, and then make a fad like quickscoping. If you can run around pell-mell, barely raise the rifle and headshot somebody who is using an assault rifle at close range in real life, then you can complain about this.

Plus every time I've seen anyone play it online the average voice is up there with the common parakeet. And the language makes a deep south KKK meeting look conservative.
Great Post. I was a huge fan of CoD4, and was extremely excited about MW2, but I can no longer defend it. Between what Activision has done and what the community is, everything you have listed here is true and kills the game. Muting everyone helps a bit. Playing hardcore keeps most snipers at actual range. But there's always the "pro kids" that ruin the experience by doing dumb shit. Plus it doesn't help that everyone uses about 4 different weapons: UMP, FAMAS, M16, Sniper Rifle (all the same); and they are the most powerful and unbalanced weapons in the game.

IMO, Activision fucked this game up. They pushed IW to do things they didn't want to do with it. IW didn't even want to do an MW2 yet, they wanted an original IP. Can't wait for MoH though, and Respawn's first game.

I don't understand why so many people hate MW2 on these forums. It is a very fun game with a badass campaign(not saying good story, just excellent gameplay) and an even better online system. It is addicting and exciting, and Spec Ops adds a lot of flavor to the mix. However, I do understand people hate the bugs and such the online has, and the no party chat on Xbox, but don't you think you are blowing those flaws out of proportion?

Please leave your response below.
Since you are new here, it makes perfect sense why you don't get the hate.

The thing is, you are MASSIVELY uninformed on the criticisms of MW 2 by this forum. Those things you mentioned aren't even considered flaws. The true reasons why it is hated so passionately is as follows (as many as I can remember):

- The decision to remove dedicated servers, PC options such as resolution adjustment, and to reduce maximum player capacity in multiplayer matches to 9v9 was a massive blow to the PC community apparently, pushing many to call it "dumbed down" or even broken for the PC.

- The single-player campaign is so short and easy yet the game still costs $60 is a massive rip-off and an insult to its fanbase simply because the developers knew it was going to sell extremely well anyway because the majority of its consumer base just got it for the multiplayer. Well not EVERYONE wants or likes to play online.

- The fact that MW 2 pretty much outsold everything in existence (metaphorically, realistically just games) established a very negative fact in the video game industry: That basically developers can get away with making an unoriginal and not entirely improved game and still make so much money off it just because they are aware of how many loyal customers would buy it, further diminishing the possibility of more new, original, and innovative games being made in the future because they are almost guaranteed not to sell so well.

- The multiplayer component itself has been critized heavily for being extreme unbalance due to perks, weapons, and maps which favor only long-range weapons.

- IW.net was established by the developer as their own personal way of controlling the online feature of the game to try and prevent hackers, glitches, cheating, etc. Since its release it has been made clear that this was a failure on their part, and that if they included dedicated servers as most PC games usually feature, most of the exploited glitches wouldn't occur.

- Lastly, MW 2 is the new culprit guilty of establishing a much larger population of rude, trash-talking, disrespectful trolls and douchebags that make online play so unpleasant for all of us decent and courteous players. Most of these people are just non-gamers who are only attracted because it's a popular shooter game that any jackass can be good at even if they don't play other games at all.

As for myself I despise and refuse to play that game ever again for all the reasons except for the first.

PC gamers have every right to despise MW2. Can't speak for the console crowds, though.
No they don't; they've brought all of it on themselves.
And how exactly did they do that? Some of us were longtime fans of Infinity Ward and, prior to MW2, I owned every single Call of Duty available for the PC.

We have done exactly zero to deserve this kind of treatment, especially since it was thanks to us (remember, COD had it's starts on the PC) that Infinity Ward became so big to begin with.

So quite frankly, I do not see how PC gamers "brought it upon themselves".
How about all the rampant pirating of the community? Maybe it would be the actions of a few dragging everyone else down, but it's not a small minority.

Take the Humble Indie Bundle for example. Everything PC gamers normally complained about was removed: excessive DRM, the "middle man" jacking up the price - in fact, as far as price went, you could pay whatever you wanted, right down to a penny. And 25% of people stole it. That's not counting torrents and file shares either; 25% of people used the servers that were supposed to be for a paid download to download the whole bundle for free, not only not paying for the game, but costing the developers more money in bandwidth.

When you look at examples like that (PC gamers won't even pay a penny for a selection of games that would normally be well worth $60), it's not hard to see why Infinity Ward are focusing on the consoles.

I'm not saying it's your fault; I'm not calling you out on it, or suggesting that you're a rampant pirate, but this kind of thing happens, and that 25% up there may very well be dragging the rest of you down with them, but I honestly can't blame developers for focusing on colsoles.
