There's some "James" guy with a Frank West avatar going around necroing stuff from what I've seen.

I've noticed a big influx of new users, I don't know why or where they came from, but I assume they're the ones behind it.

After a few years (hell, even a few months), I think it's ok to make a new thread. (unless you're my Bidoof of a boyfriend who will scream at you how you should post in his years dead threads)

I once made chicken soup which had expired in 2009. Once being like... 3 weeks back. >.>

It tasted awful... but it didn't upset my stomach as badly as I'd thought it would. >_>
My friend and I were once in Catering class trying to make pancakes. There was no mix, but I mean sugar, flour, eggs and milk will get you far enough. We were looking for some chocolate chips or something to put inside, but we found none. What we did find, however, were several bars of dark chocolate which we figured we'd just grate up and toss into the mix. Underneath, we found a little baggie containing something that we couldn't quite identify, crumbly in nature. Naturally, we ate it, and determined it was a Heath bar that had seen better days. So we're like, fuck it, it's crumbled up finely, into the pankcakes with you: It'll offset how bitter the dark chocolate was at least (it was like 70 or 90%). We went to get the eggs and milk. The milk was expired, but we were like, fuck it, thug life. The eggs, some dumbass had put them in the freezer, so they were all solid. We figured, we already have expired milk, and a God knows how old Heath bar, what's an unmixable egg? Into the pancake.

They turned out alright (except for the little bits of egg that didn't mix in, those were pretty gross), or at least much better than we had any right to expect, and we didn't get sick from eating them, so... yeah.

Anyway, I haven't noticed any thread necromancy, but I've never thought to check the dates of posts come to think of it, so I may very well be the thread necromancer.

Your boyfriend is a Bidoof? OuO

As long as they have something new to add to the discussion, why not necro a thread? It has the same effect anyway.

Guh, I don't know why there's been a huge influx of necro'd threads, but it's really annoying to deal with.

Yes, actually. =P

If it's over a year old, you might as well make a new thread. Feel free to link the old thread in your OP to give it credit, but you'll just end up confusing people who've been quoted for something they can't even remember writing.

If you guys see Necro'd threads around, could you PM a Mod, or post it in the Moderation User Group? :<

No, why should we do that?

Oh...

Well, it's not a precise answer. Maybe if it's a month or two old, then it may be OK to be brought back, if it's more than a year, probably not. Still depends on stuff, though - a "current event thing" - after it's passed there isn't much more to talk about it, a topic creator (or somebody else) returning to update and maybe even restart a discussion on a topic after a probably more recent turn of events, could even be worthwhile. But we don't really see many of the latter (although I saw one just a few days ago). A lot of the necros are unnecessary - just somebody wanting to throw their two cents for the heck of it. And it could fall under disruptive posting if it's done often enough (or deliberately).

Having come from the days when "Use the search bar!" rang forever throughout the halls of this fine establishment, the idea that people are upset over necroposting is a bit... surreal.

Personally, when it comes to approval, I'd have to say necroposting is fine as long as the necromancer is contributing new ideas to the discussion, and the discussion hasn't been significantly altered by more recent events.

Discussing the merits of the ragtime in Super Mario World? 'S prolly not going to change much.

Posting in a thread about one's suspicions on what will happen in Portal 2 based on prerelease info? Yeah, no.

We can indeed good sir, if I get a quote from a eyar ago I think I'd freak out.

Speaking of necoroing and rehashing threads, isn't it about time for the annual "Do you pee in the shower?" poll?

My guess is it's random people surfing the web, coming across a link leading to a random topic on the forums. They make an account to throw in their two cents and end up necro-ing an old thread

I've seen really old topics of the escapist on the Googles, so I'm not surprised that people would reply in those.
I guess it goes to show that no one ever bothers checking the dates on things.

Surely it depends on what kind of food?

I mean I'm not gonna go eating rotting fruit or off milk but if I have a block of cheese thats likea week past the date and not growing anything why would I not eat it? :p

[small]Even if it is growing stuff it's cheese, just cut it off and it's fine, I mean that's pretty much what blue cheese is :D [sub]just grossed myself out a little :D[/sub][/small]

You just know that someone will bring back the Scary Thread soon. And then darkness shall reign on the escapist once more.

Anyway, I've never understood why thread necromancy is a bad thing in the first place. Surely it's better than having duplicate threads pop up every other day.

probably new members/people who arent quite on the site often bringing them up cause they have an opinion. I dont know if I did this (or how many if I did) before but I try to stay away from it even if I have an opinion on a thread.

it may also just be people not sure if they should make a new thread just cause one was made already and findable in the search because tehy see how many people are quick to say "oh this thread has been put up in the last two minutes, how did you not know!" or "this thread was done before and it ended" which is kinda a big deterrent to sharing your opinions.

or it may just be people doing it cause why not?

Guys, guys, there's more too this. We've unleashed something, an evil spirit. Changing threads, killing them, turning us against one an another. It's the deadites, our only option is to kill them and send whoever is causing this to another dimension. We'll stop this, even if it kills everyone of us... Who's laughing now, necromancer, huh?

Perhaps there is no more room in forum hell so the dead are walking the forums?

Who knows Since we had any outbreak of bots a few months ago as well that could be related to it or its just peeps who cant read the start date of the op's post.

I noticed this trend too, I think we have an idea of what we'll remember the beginning of this year for, when we do so at the end

As for why... People don't look at dates. Why, do you? DATE-LOOKER!
