Well, people who think it's offensive purely by just being heavy metal are asshats.

As for why I hate it? It purely just doesn't sound good. And the only emotion it convey seems to be rage. (and no, don't take this as a sign to start showing me the 30 plus songs that you think contradict my statement)

Metal and rock are my preferred genres, but the only opinions people seem to state is that it's all the same and that it's all screaming. I beg to differ....

For example this song (One of my favourites) is a message against war and corruption in governments. Not just mindless yelling about death and shit like that.

There's my evidence :3
Disturbed is now Heavy metal? I'm pretty sure they aren't classified as Heavy metal. And this is a remake of a Phil Collins(?) song.

Rock and metal happen to be two of my favorite musical genres. However, I've noticed that without fail if someone doesn't like rock or metal, it seems to immediately goes beyond simply "I don't like that genre." to something along the lines of "How can you listen to that crap?" or "That music is so offensive!".
OP I'm a fan of the same kind of music and I say the same things about all the chart stuff that people listen to so, it doesn't just go one way.

However metal might get flak due to some of the really heavy stuff, such as vocalists screaming lyrics into the microphone aswell as guitar riffs that can sometimes, in my opinion, sound atonal. Not exactly easy to just jump in and listen to. You have to build up to it.

Now the thing I do hate is when people lump ALL metal into that category.

Then all you've listened to is core music. Look at one of the biggest metal bands ever; Iron Maiden. Their songs are more often about history and mythology than anything else. No angsty wankery. Whether they're waily on the guitars or not... IDK. Also, clean vocals.

90% of metal is crap. But 90% of everything is crap. You just have to dig a bit deeper.

Iknow metal bands that sound triumphant:

or talk about the environment and philosophy:

or sex. In a non-misogynistic way too. It depends how you interpret the song really:

or that just avoid vocals altogether:

It goes both ways, Justin Bieber does actually have fans who like his music.

My point being: it's a matter of opinion and taste.

Disturbed are hard rock, not metal. :p
Then my iTunes lies! My apologies for the mistake. But The thread says "whats with the negative view on rock/metal music?" so my point still stands all the same. I do hate it when people generalize rock/metal to be all inaudible nonsense when really it isn't.

hehe, if rock and metal are 'offensive' then those prudes should take a wide birth in avoiding rap/hiphop
exactly. not to mention that your more likely to get stabbed at a rap concert than you are to get hurt in a circle pit.

and its my understanding that the pits are really in good fun anyway (i've never been in one but that's what i heard, could be wrong)

i also remember hearing a while ago, metal was also about venting all the negative energy. again, just what i heard, but listening to metal while doing something (splitting wood as example) dose have that kinda effct

Oh look another one of those threads. "Some people do not like what I like, why don't they like it?"
The OP's post.

Your head.

Way over it.

It's more like...
"why do people think I am the Anti-Christ for listening to Marylin Manson?
"a satanic freak for listening to Metal?" (which includes many artists that are not satanic, and don't sing that *GRRRROOOOOAAAAAAAAA* kind of music)
"and a Nazi for listening to Rammstein?"
