long story short

I'm a senior in high school; have a bit of a life (although lots of people dislike me for various reasons) as in I don't play WoW or partake in memes such as "the game"

but in short

We've had Brawl tournaments at our school, and they've gotten really mundane and repetitive and the only people that still like them are these 5 or 6 nerds that love letting Nintendo jerk off in their face (and take CoD up the @$$)

so for THIS years gaming tournament I suggested I bring in Marvel vs Capcom 3

everyone loved the idea

...cept the 5-6 nintenerds who boycotted it, continued their precious brawl tournament and so on and so fourth

I guess my question is...

Why? Why are they so obsessed with this one game that they won't even give another a chance? I kid you not when I say these are the games they play

CoD
SSBB
RB/GH

that's IT
...oh and they liked LIMBO

So again; why?

==================
IN SHORT!
==================

Why are some people so obsessed with a certain game that they won't even TRY one that in all honesty is (or could be) better?

((and why ruin my senior year by boycotting my fair project... [we only have a set up for 1 game that isn't Guitar Hero...])

SIDE NOTE: Yes I played SSBB at one point, it bored the heck out of me, I have everything on the checklist except "Play for 100 hours" "Play for 300 Hours" "Play for 1000 Hours"
and no one has beaten me in offline play (online lags too bad)

as for guitar hero... I'm honestly sick of 5 starring through the fire and flames... yes we get it I can do it; now stop making me do it every time I'm in the same room as the game; I can play the song for REAL people!

Because they are idiots?

I dunno. Some people like it, others don't. The real question is... does it even matter??

your high school has video game tournaments?

you have lost the right to ever complain about anything ever again.

but to answer your last complaint before the undeniable laws of because-I-said-so took away that right: there is a republican/ democrat kind of dichotomy within the gaming world; recreational/ competitive; those that play for fun, and those who have serious insecurity problems. some people play games solely for competitive value, and as such often obsess on becoming the best in one specific game. you bring in a new game, they dont know how to exploit it in 500 different ways to beat you, so they dont want to play it. simple as that.

Duely noted, playing WoW and knowing meme's makes one a no lifer.

It's about preference. People who don't like what you don't like are not super geeky retards who are clearly brain washed by society blah blah

Some people like some things more then others, and maby they have tryed those other games, and didn't like it.

And if you have everything on SSBB's checklist (is that like achievments?), but it bored you, then why did you play it for more then 5 minutes?

As for GH, if you can get 5 star Through the Fire and Flames, you probably played the shit out of the game, which means you liked it, so don't be surprised others like it.

Unless you play games you hate to complain about them and how people who play them are no lifers.

TL:DR people who do not think like you are not broken, stupid, or no lifers. There different. Complaining about it is pointless.

The tournoment is near the release date so I wouldn't be that good

and yeah my high school sucks *sarcasm* I spent all day today watching mythbusters while participating in the class robot fight (in robotics) mine had a big hammer and a ball shooter- it won the fight but lost the race

we also spent east (last period) by... *sigh* making me 5 star TtFaF... followed by packing a ton of food up for a food drive and carrying it down flights of stairs... with many well endowed girls (that's the pervy note) that gave me hugs for carrying such weights (weights as in heavy boxes of canned food)

yeah it TOTALLY sucks~ :p

...too bad all the dudes are total pricks or complete nerds

I dunno my guess is that the range of games they enjoy is really small and MvC 3 is not in said range.

I never said they were stupid for not agreeing, I said it was stupid for them to dismiss something they never tried.

and actually I don't like GH3 and I only played it about a month; being that I can play full out videogame songs on piano while blindfolded; makes following a 5 button pattern on a screen quite simple- plus I liked that song so I could already play the thing for real (on piano though)

and brawl... well- I played it because I wanted to beat down mario as sonic; unlocked half the stuff there; then I just became achievement obsessed... plus I have world record times in target test... then did some modding for it; mainly textures and music

and I think anyone with enough disposible income to throw away roughly $200 USD a year for a single grinding game has no life... or is freaking set for life; as for memes; knowing and over-using are two TOTALLY different things

if you even say the word "IT'S" around them they'll all yell 9000; everytime; all the time...

oh and they will also literally beat you up if you even mutter "the game"

and again, it's not their taste in games that bugs me; it's how extreme they were about a differet idea

"hey lets try MvC3 it's really good an-"
"NO THAT GAME SUCKS ITS BULL BECAUSE ITS NOT BRAWL WERE GOING TO BOYCOTT THIS DURR HURR HURRR"

...yeah that's kinda what happened which left me to say "you're acting like babies..."

which made them reply "ur mom acts like babies!"

Not sure you can really blame people for misinterpreting you when you open with describing them as people who "like to let Nintendo jerk off in their faces."

Not hard to assume some irrationality on your part, as well.

I'm not really irrational just trying to understand "why?"

and while that was a blunt and rude statement... it's 99% true

they have like every Nintendo game I can think of; get them ON release day, and have actually bought SEGA games so that they could break them because apparently Nintendo and SEGA don't get along (and apparently this is the 90's again)

they also have said they wouldn't buy brawl because sonic was in it but they later changed their minds

...and if that's not creepy enough they sleep with Nintendo plushies
(and yeah, they're still addicted to pokemon)

as for my main games if you want to bash them and see if you can draw any response

Armored Core
Marvel vs Capcom
Painkiller
Team Fortress 2
Castle Crashers
No More Heroes
Contra
StarCraft 2/WarCraft 3

those are my most played games...

EDIT: Oh and Castlevania; don't play it much but do love it. (mainly ReBirth, Castlevania 2, SotN)

well, i can sorta relate to it, each Saturday theres a Magic tournament at my local nerd shop (they sell nerdy things, not nerds) i can just imagine that someone would come in and suggest that from now on we started playing pokemon instead.

we do all (except from this one guy who basically lives for magic, funny story, one time he had to rent out his place and move in with his brother for 6 months because he bought 9 P9 cards signed by Garfield and the artist) play other games, i myself rarely play except from those saturdays, but its a tradition and many of us are deeply invested in this game.

i wouldn't be to hard on them, let them have their fun with the game they love, as you said you still have other people to play with.

We can only have 1 tournoment (in eddition to GH3) and it's going to be brawl for the 2ed or 3rd year in a row

I'm not saying to change it forever, just this one year

I mean they're all Jr.s if they want brawl that badly they should wait for their senior year and vote on it; all the seniors this year (that cared... so excluding all jocks) was tied between MvC3 and MK9 (MvC3 won but it was still like 60/40) and ALL the Jr.s/sophos wanted SSBB

...well 1 senior wanted SSBB but JUST one

I love Pokemon. What the hell is wrong with Pokemon?

Apart from insulting anyone who enjoys WoW, knows memes or likes Pokemon what is the point of this thread?
You ask why people won't try a game that you consider better. Because if you asked them with any of the kind of tact that you have used in this thread then I see no reason why they would even speak to you.

i dont get why you can only play one game, is there only one TV?, i mean i have been to plenty of LAN parties and its very rare that we can all agree on just one game, so there is usually 3-4 games being played at once, and if you wanted to play one of the other games you just joined that server, i realize its not the same with consoles but you could just bring a monitor or a tv over and play, we usually bring at least one extra tv along with our pc to a lan.

at one of the more epic lans i have attended we had 6 pc games going, a tekken tournament, magic duels and a DnD session at the same time, it was so nerdy we all gained 50kg and got our virginity back after 1 hour.

I disagree from it from a "fun" standpoint, but if you look at it from a *choke* competitive standpoint, I can understand where they're coming from.

If you spent 1000 hours mastering a game, you would want there to be a competitive scene for it as long as possible, right? And if they start doing tournaments for other (even better) games, then their kicking ass at the first game might not matter to anyone anymore.

To some people, being really good at a game apparently doesn't matter unless other people admire your mastery. And some people are really afraid of being bad at anything, so they just stick with what they know.
