The game just has absolutely nothing special about it. It's just bland space mildew. The salt in the wound is that this series became a worldwide phenomenon for being generally mediocre.

THAT is what's wrong with Halo, it's a average game made worse by the fans hyping it up. It's certainly no worse than other average games, but the fact that the community make it look like God's gift to gaming makes it look shitty in the eyes of anyone else.

You hear that Molyneux? Over-hyping makes a bad game worse!!!

Its been said before in this thread. Nothing really wrong with it, its just extremely overrated. Its an average shooter on a system that should have no shooters (consoles). So it fails on most areas. Halo generally makes me feel very MEH. Although it do annoy me that its so popular.

The main problem that I have with Halo is the fact that everyone either finds problems with it and won't shut up about them, or can't find the previously mentioned problems and won't shut up about it. It just gets very annoying.

Honestly though, I think it's a pretty fun game. The only thing that really bugs me is the enormous amount of health/shield, as it takes forever to kill someone.

The Multiplayer is fine. The Singleplayer is what turns me off from Halo. It's not this "OMGAWESOME" game like it's cult followers claim it is. Now that's not to say I wasn't a follower. I LOVE Halo 1. To this day, I will always back Halo as the best Halo. Then Halo 2 came out. Completely ruined the franchise for me. It was too easy, to the point of being ridiculously so. Halo 3 comes out... reaffirms my position. Now ODST came out and I tried it (of course), and I was pleasantly surprised. The challenge, the feel of the original Halo came back. I must say that it was enough for me to start looking forward to Halo: Reach. GotY? Absolutely not. Still, a must-buy for me.

for 1000th time to everyone who keeps asking this same question over, and over, and over, and over:

1. it's not great. It's not worth the hype. There's nothing that makes it stand alone except its needless popularity
2. its story is cliche
3. its game play is uninspired yet is constantly praised

Basically, it's the Twilight Saga of the gaming world.

At least those are my reasons. if you guys think it's fun, you really shouldn't let my or anyone else's opinions affect your own unless, of course, all of the hate on halo has you doubting your own opinion because you are repressing your belief in the criticism. If that is not the case, then it shouldn't be a big deal that we don't like it.

the game has some flaws ill admit, but the multiplayer has one feature that has, for me, made it a better game then ANYTHING that has come out in the last three years.

that feature is the ability to have up to four people play on xboxlive on the same screen, with only one of them requiring gold and the others can just sign in as guests. this one feature has kept me playing for a long time jest becausse when friends show up i can toss them a controller, have them sign in as guests and then we can can jest play away.

this is a legit question. What wrong with Halo?it's fun and sometimes challenging and isn't that what Gaming is about?having fun and beating challenges?Sure it has flaws but all games have flaws.can i get a good logical answer to my first question?
-no dedicated servers = poor online
-crap vehicle controls (seriously, it will only drive the direction I look?)
-long and slow paced
-"epic" but overly meandering story
-plot only really makes sense or is worth caring about by reading the expanded fiction.
-fairly repetitive enemies and level design
-good music, gets boring and repetitive from overuse
-unimaginative weapons
-sequels retread far too much ground, Halo 3 ended almost identically to Halo 1

It's not BAD by any accounts... it's just not all that good.

Halo CE was good for 2001 but the series has failed to sufficiently grow and develop since then, it just has slipped into a comfortable fanboy pleasing position with a steady flow of the exact same gameplay as almost a decade ago.

Halo seems bad when you realise what else has been going on in that time in terms of games releases and new franchises, with other games that are more fun, more challenging and more interesting while being less repetitive and with less flaws. Like Call of Duty series, FEAR, Team Fortress 2, Half Life 2, hell even Medal of Honor: Airbore I found way more enjoyable than Halo 3 which came out the same year as as it mixed up the gameplay, controls and enemies... REALLY challenging enemies (at a cost of historical accuracy, but who cares).

All three games of the main trilogy are on on my list of "games worth getting" but they aren't a huge priority.

the fanbase is pretty irritating too.

i've seen obsession before but the age group and the devotion is pretty bad.
because it got so popular, people are letting their kids play it and more often than not, the kids are annoying and just praise anything that says "Halo" on it.

i don't hate the franchise, i just hate the majority of the crowd it's attracted. i can only bear playing online for a couple matches before it just becomes too much. the online community for the Halo games is certainly not subtle.

Nothing's wrong with it. It's not a perfect game, but what is?

However, I would disagree with your idea that gaming is all about having fun and beating challenges. That's a value of them, and it is some of the reason some people play games, but video games are also an intensely powerful art form: there is much more to them than simple challenge and entertainment.

The reason I love Halo is the story, soundtrack, and overall presentation. The gameplay is fantastic too, but it's the presentation I really love about it. An amazing series, it is.

I believe Halo was the previous version of MW2, in the sense that it was hyped, hyped and hyped some more, only to suffer a massive cse of the meh's when I finally played it.

Because everyone else hates it. I want to fit in.

I've never personally played it, since I don't have an xbox.

single player was good in all 3 (some people call it crap, I disagree)
the multiplayer is just a fragfest (exept in halo 2)

at least thats how I view it.
halo 3s online is built with this in mind "If the game requires to much skill then we get a smaller fanbase which means less money, so lets make it super easy to get kills"
I do not beleave it was bungies decision

It's boring. Bland. Many people have said "generic." I mean, space marines, space war, alien infection... It's all been done before and better. I mean the gameplay's alright, but it's repetitive and a touch easy. I've never bothered with Halo 3 because Halo 2 was so underwhelming. And if you've played Halo 2, you've pretty much played every Halo game. Same with Gears of War, though I liked that one more since there's more variety to it. So no, there's nothing "wrong" with Halo. I just have better things to do with my time, like watch movies, listen to music, play other games, masturbate, eat, sleep, write on message boards, write bad science fiction of my own, stare into blank space, anything.

My particular problems were the boring story and unlikeable characters. I could not empathise with chief and his buddies. The story seems to want so hard to be epic, but I just found myself increasingly bored with it all. Never bothered with multiplayer, internet connection/finances will not permit it.

I dont have a problem with Halo, i have a problem with halo 2 and 3 (and any others that were made). They went dramatically down hill from the original Halo... They should have stopped while the going was good. And im excited to see if the movie will be any good, hopefully it will live up to its expectations
