Maybe its age, but something has been pretty off with todays cartoons, the las decent little piece was "the grimm adventures of billy and mandy" filled with black humor, obscure and strange situations, and a somehow grown up sarcasm and dark comedy, not to mention the never ending gross outs billy could always afford to pitch in, but ever sence that I have notice an incredibly decrease of cartoons, unlikable pitchy voiced kids, ogly big eyes and drawings that resemble a bit to much of anime style and of course the new computer bloeated cartoons that just fell like getting pweked in the eyes, what happened to arnold and roccos modern life? where did the pinky and the brain run of to? the only new thing that actually feels likable is the misadventures of flapjack, the rest just seem like blurs in existence unnenteresting cartoon characters, and naruto...god I hate that show. maybe its age...maybe i shoyld stop watching cartoons and go jerkoff to porn like normal 15 year olds? well...as always just a thought

P.S: fell free to name youre favorite (old or new) cartoon (if you got the cojonies)

Do you watch Chowder? I find that's more in the same vein as Flapjack, but with fewer outright creepy stuff. There's is a bit better hidden, but creepy all the same.

Apart from those two(and spongebob) I pretty much agree with you. I don't watch too much TV, but I knew something was wrong when I discovered Total Drama Island. It's a TV show about a cartoon reality show that is shamelessly based off Survivor. Weird.

Oh, and one last thing: If you want to watch a seriously messed up older cartoon, watch Ren and Stimpy. The people who made basically tried to see what exactly they could get on the air. Trust me, my friend watched the commentaries.

I just don't find them funny. Pinky and the Brain, now that was funny.

Dude, I just posted a thread about this very subject about a month ago, and you're right, cartoons today suck! My favorites were: Batman Beyond, Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack, Swat Kats, Freakaziod, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Johnny Bravo, The Simpsons, and Batman: The Animated Series. They just don't make them like that anymore. Ben 10 and Star Wars:The Clone Wars are both really good, but that's about it.

Well, I find Chowder, Flapjack, and Adventure Time to be the only well written and funny cartoons of this era, though Ben 10/Alien Force/Ultimate Alien to be decent.

Though the problem for most cartoons today is that they're trying to hop on the Spongebob rip-off bandwagon b/c of how Spongebob was/is very popular and many try to imitate that yet failed miserably with shows like Squirrel Boy, Camp Lazlo, Gym Partner, etc.

It seemed to work for Johnny Test. Is it just me, or is that show played fast forward non-fucking stop?

It's because they look down to children, not up.
There you go.

I made a comment that in 2009 two "children's films" were made.

Where the Wild Things Are
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

The former is a brilliant film about childhood as it is. It doesn't pander or insult, it deals with childhood, the confusion and anger and sense of selfishness and coming to terms with reality.

The latter was a harmless forgettable if mildly entertaining work.

Guess which one made more money?

Well, that show is more or less like Dexter's Lab except gender flipped. Yet you're right about how they show practically all the time.

Though another thing about how cartoons are crap these days are mostly b/c of how the toon execs and CEOs think of kids of today are just plain dumb and how anything would appeal to them, Soccer mom influence, and/or they're just bogged down with terrible or cliche' writing and ideas that don't makes these funny or good. I bet only those who find Epic/Disaster Movie funny will laugh at these awful toons.

A big part of me wants to say its because of Nostalgia.
Nothing will compare with watching old cartoons with the wonder of a child.

Granted since they replaced the great cartoons of the past with things like "CN Real" and Cartoon Cartoon Fridays with that fried piece of shit known as "Fried Dynamite", I'm not so sure.

One things for sure though, cartoons lost a lot of balls.
Remember Courage the Cowardly Dog? That show had balls, and if you tried to show something like that these days, shit would hit the fan. I remember its last episode... god damn that was sad.

Both "Perfect" and the one where he lost his parents to that dick of a veterinarian. Both those episodes taught me that no one is perfect, and fuck anyone else who tries to force you to be perfect. And in the latter, it taught me to love and cherish my parents. Because they can be taken away instantly at any time.

And don't even get me started on Megas XLR. Whoever cancelled that deserves to be mauled.

What do cartoons these days teach kids?

Visionaries rocked a hell of a lot more than any of the crap I've seen since I've 'grown' up -.-

I lent my dvd set to the 15 yo work exp' kid to show him what he missed...He was greatly impressed.

So many awesome shows back then...I feel old :(
