Uh, is Fire Emblem: Awakening considered AAA? I'm not sure of the distinction. If not, then that would be my choice. Hell, it might have even been my choice AAA included.

If that's disallowed, then Rogue Legacy. That game is good, rather addictive, and can be played for 15 minutes or 3 hours at a time.

So, this one wasn't quite released this year, but it's close, I guess. My non-triple A, non-standard GOTY for 2013 is...

System Shock 2. I'd heard great things about this game pretty much anytime Bioshock was mentioned, so I finally picked it up on a steam sale. A few hours in I realized, 'damn, people weren't kidding about this one.'

Spoilers that have most likely already been spoiled are within.
Great atmosphere, interesting story, awesome villain (seriously, SHODAN is one of the coolest video game villains ever). I just really enjoyed this game a whole lot more than I thought I was going to, because let's be honest, some classics can be a bit of a slog gameplay-wise. Sure, it suffers a bit from being old, but not nearly as much as many other games have.

Also, I've gotta admit, I'm just a huge sucker for the whole 'He who fights monsters' trope, which was in full effect throughout this game.

I'm tempted to put the Wolf Among us but since only the first episode is out I'm going to resist.

So barring that, I've got to say Dungeons of Dredmor, I picked it up during a steam sale, but never got around to playing it. When my hard drive crashed and I spent close to a weak on a 40 gig backup hard drive running linux mint I was in need of games low and behold I've some linux games on steam, one of them was Dungeons of Dredmor, resisting playing more FTL I downloaded it and man, it is such an awesome game, the humor the interesting gameplay mechanics and the replayableity so much fun.

It is likely the best modern rogue like I've played that stays truest to the old rogue like formula.

Well, considering I forgot how many times I've said told myself that Rayman Legends is my GOTY, injustice style would bring that down to... uh... *2 hours later* Besides all of the HD collections I've played this year (Kingdom Hearts; Ratchet and Clank; Sly Cooper; God of War), that just leaves... Project Diva F...

Are you sure I can't choose Tales of Xillia? I've clocked more hours into that than PDF... (Not to say I din't like PDF, I would not consider it my GOTY, though it's automatically nominated on my injustice style list for my GOTY becasue of reasons...)

OH! How about Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction? I finally got a chance to buy all of the Ratchet & Clank Future games in one go and, so far, I'm REALLY enjoying Tools of Destruction... It's better than the demo I remembered playing all them years ago...

I beat Spec Ops: The Line this year, and that's undoubtedly the best game I've played in the past two years... But of games that exclusively came out this year, it's... Actually really tough for me to say. It's kind of a tie between Bioshock Infinite for it's wonderful story and mind-fuckery (to me, at least), and Risk of Rain for it's wonderful gameplay. Papers, Please and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon in a close 3rd and 4th, respectively.

Only first played this year? Easy, that would go to Tales of Vesperia.

I haven't really gotten around to playing many of the good games released this year. The best so far has been Shin Megami Tensei IV, but something tells me that Tomb Raider, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Rune Factory IV, and/or GTAV will overtake it once I have a chance to give them the attention they deserve.

Edit: Oh, crap, I forgot that Pokemon X released this year. Yeah, that gets it so far, but again, it wouldn't surprise me if it gets overtaken.

I really liked FTL this year.

And for a game that I got completely free Yahtzee's Consuming Shadow isn't half bad.

And I know it's old but I picked up Sword Of The Stars a few months back and it consumed my life for a time.

Edit: I can't spell

Rayman legends best use of the wii u tablet and unlike Super Mario 3D land there is no hand holding. I'm talking shots at the white toonoki suit. Man Up Nitnendo and develop a game like the lost Levels.

Probably Okami.

I haven't even finished it yet (only around 10 hours in) but my word that art style is incredible. It looks jaw-dropping upres'd in PCSX2. And the banter between Issun and Okami is pretty damn good too.

It also feels like a Platinum game (cos it is) and it has this great sense of "adventure" to it... It's just great.

Persona 4 Golden. Not only is it my favorite game I played this year, it is my favorite game I have played ever.

The only games I remember coming out this year and really enjoying were Antichamber, Gone Home, Gunpoint, Monaco, Papers Please and Rogue Legacy.

I guess any of those could be considered my GOTY.

I'm drawing a blank on the games I played for the first time this year! I'm shit like that.

Even though it has not had a proper release yet and is still in beta, I nominate Xenonauts. I've had a blast with that game so far. Love the tense atmosphere, helped by the Cold War-era setting. Just about everything you could wish for the new XCOM games to do differently that the originals did: Xenonauts does and does well. So we've got a good and very faithful modern adaptation[footnote]Not saying Enemy Unknown wasn't good, I had a great time with it - I just think Xenonauts did it all better![/footnote] of the classic original, with the air combat vastly improved and more involving.

Runner up/honourable mention is probably Far Cry 3, which isn't a 2013 release but I only played this year. Best fun I've had in a recent FPS and gorgeous to boot. So nice having a lush green environment to run around in, shooting guns and shooting up. (edit: I know it's AAA, but as a 2012 release it's not a 2013 GOTY contender! I vote Xenonauts anyway.)

I'm going to say MechWarrior Online. After listening to my other half go on about it for months, I finally gave it a try myself and was hooked within an hour.

It's not the most varied game, or the most polished, or best balanced, or even most unique. It's not even really finished! But it's tons of fun and is the first game in years I have regularly played with strangers (something I usually avoid like the plague).

Put me down for Payday 2...

Or, after 6 days, 8 hours and 23 minutes until steam unlocks it...
The Walking Dead Season 2...

So yeah... That'd be my vote(s)

I haven't played anything this year for the first time that wasn't a GOTY contender.

Oh, wait, I guess Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. I think I got that this year...

This year has been pretty lacking in the game releases for me, so I spent most of my time playing some older games of the PS2 library. This is also the year I started and beaten the MGS games, and I think MGS 3 has been my game of the year. I did play the HD version on my xbox 360. I was just amazing to me how fresh that game felt, even though the game was nine years old.

from the game that were released this year, I would probably say something like Rogue Legacy or Papers Please. The only AAA title I really enjoyed was Injustice, but I stopped playing that one awhile ago.

Originally GTA V, but after that I bought and played Ass Creed IV, and it is not only better than the third one. IT is the best assassins creed ever. It is pure awesome sauce.

So yes, Assassins Creed IV.

Barring AAA's, I'd say PAYDAY 2.

For $30 it annihilates the amount of replay-ability I've had from fuckin $60 games and a slew of DLC.

I'd go with Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and Saint's Row 4, couple of reasons,
1st: They're fun games that I know I'm going to enjoy every time I play them.
2nd: There the only games that have come out this year that I've played to completion.

(I've spent the last month with FO:New Vegas again!)
