Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai - It's just so happy.
That's why I hated it I wanted to see someone get bludgeoned to death... preferably with a baseball bat again...

OT: I honestly can't think of many anime with great endings. I cried at the end of Elfen Lied but that doesn't make it a good ending. Desert Punk had a pretty cool ending that wasn't exactly out of character. Gurren Lagan had a great ending it was so over the top and ridiculous it just had to be great. FLCL had a great ending too, surer it didn't make much sense but it was utter ridiculousness. Oh yeas and Cowboy Bebop but that one is just a given...

After all of the endless bad endings that appeared throughout the series, I was glad to finally see one definitively happy ending.

Ouran High School Host Club, Death Note, Digimon Tamers and Azumanga Daioh have great endings in my opinion for different reasons. As for films, I love the endings of Akira, Spirited Away, Ponyo and Pom Poko.

But at what cost? I didn't like Kai because it doesn't capture those feelings of paranoia and desperation that the original portrait so well and it ruined the entire experience for me... So sure it's definitive? did you watch Rei?

Either Cowboy Bebop, or Jin-Roh. I can't decide which, but they both end with powerful, emotionally moving and thematically significant ways that really endeared me to them.
I'm a sucker for the tragic.

Yeah, Kai didn't have the wonderful horror stories that composed the original, but I didn't feel Kai ruined it. If you want more of the original, there's always Rei, though I've not seen that yet; I've heard it's more fun horror stories.

I recently watched that show because it has near universal praise and what the hell internet. Do you guys like being depressed? That was the saddest show ever. Watching it felt like my emotions' balls were being run-over by a steam roller. I mean yeah ok it was funny at times but the second season in particular was just like "BRACE FOR IMMINENT SADNESS!"
I also heard similar reviews that it was a "happy anmime" and i found no part happy whatsoever. every single part had this sad overtone to it. like fuki's inevitable death or whatever else.

OP: id probably have to say Code Geass also as it was very complex and all, but i also liked Tsubasa Rerservoir Chronicles ewnding.

Bebop and Wolf's Rain.

Bebop because it was going in the direction and couldn't be stopped (I think) and it protects the series from being ruined; mostly. I think way too many anime series lurch on forever and never go anywhere and render any good parts irrelavent by distance and having to continue instead of ending (Ranma, Naruto, Inuyasha I'm looking at you.

I also loved the ending to Serial Experiments Lain, which can't really be talked about without ruining it.

Ginga Nagareboshi Gin (Silver Fang) had a pretty decent ending but the sequel was shit and its ending was also shit.

Every one told me I should watch NGE and that the ending was really cool. I hate those people because they lied to me and the ending was not cool. I wasted a whole lot of my life on that one.

Full Metal Alchemist's ending was okay. I didn't like Al's memory loss though.

I watched Rei there was one small arc there that had potential but it fell apart. besides it was only 6 episodes long and composed mostly of comedy episodes which weren't terrible but not what I wanted...

Full metal Panic had a normal hero wins nothing spectacular ending which was kind of good for that series according to me.

Me too. I loved both of those. I never saw "Little Red Riding Hood" as the victim that most viewers saw her as.

I also like endings where things aren't just fixed, like Paranoia Agent. You can make the best of something but you can't just undo horrible things or make everything okay.

I'm gonna go with the only Anime I've seen. Rozen Maiden (aka the anime with DESU DESU DESU DESU) I've only seen the first season but the ending to that was VERY good. ^^ it actually made me want to watch other anime's too...

FMA: Brotherhood had a very fulfilling ending (that was far superior to its predecessor's). Either than that, I would have to say Bebop, hands-down.
