I honestly have to say thank you for this. For years and years I have considered Necron the only flaw in FFIX. Now it all makes sense. And now I can consider it a perfect game.
No problem, always happy to help. I consider it a small mission of mine to convince as many people as possible that Final Fantasy IX is the best game of all time.
Just so's you know, I think the Final Fantasy Ultimania (basically the FF dictionary Square released) has a differennt interpretation of Necron to mine (revolving around Necron being connected to the Iifa Tree). The problem I have with their interpretation is that a) it was written after Hironoby Sakaguchi left, and without any of his input, and b) it makes no fucking sense. Though a lot of Squenix's output recently has been lacking in the common sense department. I say stick with my interpretation, and everything at the end should make sense.
As you can tell my favorite is IX. I loved all the characters, the art style really impressed me and even today I still consider You're Not Alone the best track from a video game ever.
It is an awesome piece of music, though I have to say my favourite piece from any FF game is Place Of Memory, also from IX.
It's such a moody, atmospheric piece of music, and it ties in with the aesthetics of the Memoria level better than any other level/music combo I've ever seen in a game. I might be biased though. I consider Memoria to be the greatest level in any videogame ever made. Never has a design team taken recurring symbols and motifs from throughout a videogame, and fucked around with them so well. All the little touches you see which nod back to earlier parts of the game... ah fuck, now I want to go play it again.
