5 years eh?

Hmmmm...

I play a lot of different genres, and they offer different experiences that are difficult to compare with each other.

I mean, I get a completely different kind of enjoyment from say, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 than I do from something like Journey.

5 years hmmm *checks release date* Valkyria Chronicles easy choice for me ive played loads of other great games but this one is head and shoulders over all the others. Second best game ever (for me obv).

Im not sure everyone is clouded by nostalgia though if you still play an old game you like regularly it must be because you really like it if you just think back and go yeah that was great then it could be nostalgia.

A Hermit's Cave
That's a rather easy one for me... and sad ponce that I am: Assassin's Creed II.

But then Napoleon: Total War kept me occupied and amused for months as well...

And now I'm becoming increasingly aware that I've only played games from two franchises in the past couple years... -_-

This is a hard one for me. Tough choice between Fallout 3, Red Dead Redemption or Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2.

Dragon Age: Origins. Enagaging story, best overall cast of characters in any game I've played, interesting and meaningful decisions and leveling/ability system that wasn't over complicated but left plenty of room for experimentation. Completed this game atleast 20 times and atleast half a dozen then went on to awakening and all the dlc

I assume not EVERYONE is clouded by nostalgia, but i sure am. i believe that LoZ:Wind Waker was one of the best games ever and that the sailing made me feel like an adventurer. but im sure there are vastly superior games i havn't played yet, like some old games a lot of people are saying are the best.

My favorite game would be RDR. I would name it because of so called "clouded nastalgia". I wished for a good western game such a long time (since Law of the west) and RDR delivered.

I could also name Batman:Arkham Asylum for similar reasons. To me it´s the first quality superhero game.

The Uncharted series delivered the old Indiana Jones vibe.

As you can see most of my choices are based on wishfull nostalgic feelings. There are other games i could name but it would be just a run down of the last 5 years big titles and i doubt i remember much of them after the next 5 years.
The only exception would be Saints Row2. To me it`s the game that delivered the fun GTA4 promised and for it`s character editor. When it comes to me every game should have one.

Now since this is covered i want to play a great pirate adventure (Risen2 is just not my game, a bit to much fantasy and rpg for my taste), followed by a good fantasy hack and shlash(demon`s souls? Dragon`s Dogma?...not sure about these).

There is one other genre i`d like to see again. Where are the good old street brawlers? As much as i like the simple but challenging combat system of the new Batman games i don`t want to run around in a cape all the time (maybe Sleeping Dogs is the one).

Edit: urgh, i overused "delivered" quite a bit.

Well, that's easy, it's Bioshock.

And I say that's easy because Bioshock is my favorite game ever, even WITH nostalgia goggles on. I've been playing games since I was 3 (my first was Super Mario), and even with all the games I've played, Bioshock just stands head and shoulders above the rest in my eyes.

5 years? Halo: Reach

More bang for my buck than any other game. Also, it's probobly the only game in this thread to have jet packs.

Last 5 years? Wow, that's rather limiting. Well, if that's the case, then Magicka. It's so fun and yet so good.

Planescape Torment. Took me FOREVER to get into it because of the graphics, but once I did....no going back.
