Lately, I've been listening through my old albums that I overlooked as a kid. Two of my new favourites are 'Mother's Milk' and 'One Hot Minute' by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and for the last few weeks, I've had this song stuck in my head:

Frankly, my earphones don't do it justice.

So what are some of the songs you love because of their bass lines? Any genre is good: funk, hip hop, techno, RnB, whatever. I guarantee that I have shittier taste in music than you, so nobody's going to judge.

No More Tears by Ozzy Osbourne, no contest for me. After that probably something by Iron Maiden, a couple of Rammstein songs or Les Claypool.

I'll pick Mushroom Hunting from the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack. It's baseline is simple, but o so extreeeeeeeeemely groovy and addicting:
No matter how many times I hear that, I awesomegasm every time. Jazz in general has some of the best bass I've ever heard.

I've always liked the bass line in the Pixies' Gigantic [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIu_b_fG_2g]. It's simple, but there's something really compelling about it.

Hooboy..

Portrait of Tracy by Jaco (it might be a solo but its still bass)

Schism by Tool

The Distance by Cake

Donna Lee by Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey. (Again, another solo but still bass, and still amazing).

There are plenty more but that'll do. For now.

I don't know if that counts because that's not a real bass, but I love that riff so much... And the keyboard is just amazing...
