Ignoring TF2 because it originally started out as a retail game, I do particularly like Blacklight Retribution. For those wondering; it really is a good modern military-style shooter. Basically, the HRV really does change the entire dynamic of the game.

As long as you can download and play it for free, it counts.
At the moment, probably Elsword.
I like the art style, the combat shines, and it's just really quite fun.
I'm currently playing the hell out of Elsword to. If i had to level a complaint against it though, its that they didn't rip out that stamina system from the game when they moved it across the water.

Besides that? My 'other' favorite is Vindictus. No other MMO has Combat on par with it, none, it's simply the best combat wise, and the Dark Knight/Paladin powers are badass. It has problems though, and almost all of them are the fault of Nexon, ether due to Nexon NA's greed (charging the US player base for events other regions get free) or pure incompetence when it comes to bug testing (2 of the last 3 major raid related updates have broken the game to the point where the auto ban system is banning innocent players) or lack of customer support (where you wrongfully banned? sucks for you - Nexon), they seem pretty much bound and determined to ruin the game and generally be worse the EA.

which is sad, Vindictus had so much more potential, and it's been squandered

It used to be Dungeon Fighter before they closed it.

It feels almost unfair to include it, but TF2 is just a gem. Though it wasn't free back when I got it. OG son.

Everything I hate about shooters is just...gone. No repetitive gameplay. Every class matters. Dedication to (trying to) balance. Big variety of maps and game types. Massive Mod community, fun people....just awesome all around.

Obviously, I'd be ruining my reputation if I didn't shout League at you for a few hours. Well, if by "Free to play" you mean "OH MY GOD SHINY SKINS WANT! I KNEW THEY WOULD RELEASE A RAINBOW DASH HECARIM!"
The denial by bronies in regards to Arcade Hecarim is a little sad. Rainbow Dash is neither a robot, nor a unicorn. Both of which Arcade Hecarim is.

At the moment APB Reloaded.

It's basically just a very basic very shitty on-line grand theft auto.

The game is clearly pay to win, the best guns are locked behind a way overpriced cash store. But as long as you never spend a penny and you don't actually care about being the best or winning that much it's fun game to just dick around in for hours.

Plus the character customisation is awesome you can easily spend days just (re)designing characters, outfits and even vehicles.

Ah don't like free games most of them are pay to win which is something I feel is taking down the whole point of gaming in general and it reminds me of those shitty facebook games but to each his own I guess.

team fortress 2 is one of my favorite games ever and now completely free and you don't need to pay in order to win(700 hours and counting).

Hmmmm....

Well, League of Legends. I guess. I only play it because its the only game my brother has been playing as of late, although his need to be ridiculously competitive at anything sucks the fun out of it.

I like Warframe because, since its Co-op rather than Player vs. Player, which solves the Pay to Win problem a lot of F2P games have.

War Thunder, because dog fighting is awesome. And of course, Team Fortress 2.

That's about it. I guess I could come up with more if I tried. I mean, Soldier Front 2 is a F2P game that I only play for the Fun House game type, but I wouldn't call it my favorite.

The only one I can count under that is Fable 3. Sure you can't download it free now, but I got it for free so I'd imagine it would count.

For multiplayer, TF2 is just best. The fast paced gameplay and focus on teamwork rather than individual player skill really appeals to me, and I think that it's managed to breed a fun and friendly community.

In single player, let's not all forget that Cave Story was originally and still is freeware. It is by far and away the best 2D platformer of the last decade.

Definitely Path of Exile.
Old school Diablo fun with a great murky oppressive atmosphere.

Like whats already been said, Star Trek Online. You can play the game start to finish with out paying a cent. You can even get the premium currency with an In-game currency.

Other F2P games should take note of their model, its one of the best.

Champions Online. Can play as Captain America without paying 40+ $...though I prefer making my own characters. Fun as hell too, and amazing character customization, even without paying.

World of Tanks has to be my favourite although I've played a number of others including LoL, Hon, a bit of Dota2, APB Reloaded, and Blacklight Retribution. But I've definitely committed the most time to Wot.

Mabinogi is one of my favorite ftp RPG. I've tried so many of these free to play RPGs, and none of them just couldn't hold my interest. the game's combat is very unique, and the story is told though various cut scenes that doesn't get in the way of game play.

I think my absolute favorite is blacklight retribution. Its still a really good multiplayer FPS with a pretty good business model going for it. Plus I love the cyberpunk theme

However right now Im playing a lot of neverwinter and its pretty good. I have some frustrations with the long pause combat but I love the fact that I can make my own missions and share them with the community. User created content is one of the better things to have come out in recent years for the MMO genre

Mechwarrior: Online and War Thunder have been keeping me entertained lately. One satisfies my urge for lumbering giant hundred ton stompy mechs, while the other one satisfies my craving for beautiful aerial dogfights in vintage aircraft. They work with one another surprisingly well I find.

I love smite atm, even though it's still in beta. It's showing a lot of potential. I could never get into MOBA's because I hate traditional 'Warcraft'(RTS?) style controls, third person is so much more flexible and it really lets you go nuts with skillshots. :3
