I could give a witty trick answer, but I'm far too lazy. So, for now let's just say I'm leaning towards Mass Effect. Seriously, I've been sitting in my room for the past two weeks replaying that game for the high difficulty achievements and I've been loving it.

Rainbow Six Vegas is the only game that did not end up on my shit list before I stopped playing it. So I pick that one.

The original Super Mario Bros. on the NES. I still play the game (Virtual Console version) often. There have been many great games, but there would arguably be none today, if it was not for our favorite plumber.

I'm sorry but the princess is in another castle. :)

Plumbers don't wear ties. So deep and thought provoking.

Nah it's probably Donkey Kong country 2, mainly because of it's music. Stickerbush Symphony \m/.

Or S.T.A.L.K.E.R, the first one. I Just loved it. and it's even better with Oblivion Lost installed.

Deus Ex

This basically got me into PC gaming, and to this day I have not played anything as amazing at Deus Ex. Sure there have been more addicting games, more fast paced games, more stealthy games, prettier, etc, but nothing has come close to making such an overall masterpiece as it.

EDIT

Wait a second, who the hell resurrected this thread? And looking over the posts, the OP definitely meant to whore badges and went on spamming the entire thread.

People. They have infinite replay value, don't break easily, and there are literally billions of them, so if you do break one, mentally or physically, you can just find another.
And the difficulty curve is less of a curve and more of a straight line, because they're just so easy to play with.
I thought it got a bit boring after a while, oddly enough.
Maybe you aren't supposed to kill them...

Anyways, Mechwarrior 2 takes the cake!

Its between Beyond Good and Evil and an old strategy game called Desperado's, which I think I got in a cereal Box as a free trial at first when I was 9 or 10. kept playing to around 15, I just loved the mechanics. I still look for games with similar styles.

Starcraft. Sure it may be a little dated after 10 years, but it was the first game that really showed me the wonders of video gaming. I was pretty young when I first played it, and I would always look forward to going to play it at my friend's house. The story, the units, the ability to command an entire army the way I wanted to and defeat enemies with it was something I had never really experienced before and because of it Real-Time-Strategy will always be my favorite genre.

Whats funny is that at the time when I was playing it, I had no idea that it was as massively popular as it was. It was only until later when I had stopped playing the game for a long time that I realized that its considered the definitive RTS game and one of the very best ever. After playing it on and off for almost 7 years, I can certainly agree with that sentiment. Now if only they would add an idle worker button...
