Risen, for the atmosphere and experience.
Age of Empires, for the theme and music.

That's about it.

Captcha (after ~30 Toyota spam pictures): "Toe the line." Sorry - Mass Effect is good, but not quite good enough.

Hmmm mine would be a threesome between:

[li]Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind[/li]
[li]Baldur's Gate II[/li]
[li]Timesplitters: Future Perfect[/li]

There is not, and never will be, a game that outdoes my love of The Legend of Dragoon.

It's just not possible.

Halo CE and Age of Empires 2.

I could sit down for days and write about their faults, but they are the only games that have withstood the test of time, and I can enjoy them just as much today.

HHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGG

Fallout 3! *shakes fist*

OT: For me it's Fallout New Vegas, followed closely by Mass Effect 1, portal and Half Life 2.
Haha! I'm sorry, it has a special place in my heart! It was my first RPG that absolutely consumed my life :p

Xenogears. With Xenosaga 1-3 for a prologue.

Because... just, really awesome story.

Xenogears also has a really fun combat system - one of the best in an old-school JRPG.

Xenosaga had an excellent story as well, but the combat wasn't as fun as the original Xenogears, so typically I prefer to simply watch Xenosaga 1-3 (with the cut-scene preorder DVD, You-Tube, and the "watch" feature in Xenosaga 3) and then play Xenogears.

The original KOTOR, It's the only game I can replay and still enjoy as much as the first time I played it.

Too broad a question so I'll break it down as follows:

Fav strat - Rome: Total War, even vanilla this is an enjoyable game (if a little inaccurate, but I don't care when I've lined up one and a half thousand armoured hoplites and go Roman-bashing), but with mods, it's still among the best strategy games going.
Fav shooter - Deus Ex, graphix show its age, but the story won't get old for a long time yet and it caters to any mood of shooting gameply you want.
Fav RPG - KotOR, the first proper RPG I played and it retains a special place in my... heart... wherever it is...
Fav action-adventure - ACII, still the best of the series and probably will be when ACIII comes out, because none of the others captured the breadth of gameplay, story, setting and environment without being either ignorable or overwhelming.
For sheets and geegles - Portal, it's just fun, 'tis all...

Special mentions to - Napoleon: Total War, Fallout 3, Sniper Elite, Republic Commando & Mass Effect (I'd include ME2/3, but in my infinite laziness, I haven't played 'em yet...)

I'm surprised more people haven't said Portal. From what I understand, Internet users generally hail it as a perfect gift miraculously bestowed upon all humanity by God Himself.

Anyways, I'd have to say either Assassin's Creed II or Viewtiful Joe. I had an incredibly fun time playing through both games.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a mention of Minecraft; just goes to show, people can surprise you!

Grand Theft Auto 4. Most triumphant example of a game that's artistic, but also a game. And a damned good one at that.

(CAPTCHA: Patience, child. Ironic, isn't it? I don't have a lot of patience for most art games, like Every day the same dream or Dear Esther.)

Probably Deus Ex. To this day I still haven't had a story experience like it. The way the narrative twists and turns is amazing, I especially love how in the first few levels you feel like you're just doing your job, visiting HQ, getting debriefed and paid... and then suddenly everything turns on its head. And the feeling for the first time when you
break out of the MJ12 prison and discover it's part of UNATCO
is incredible.
