Morrowind for a proper roleplaying experience. It was involving and immersive.

Fable 2 for a casual adventure. It's a bit of fun that just about counts as an RPG.

My favorite RPGs would be Lunar 1 and Lunar 2 on PS1. FF7 is overrated, but still good.. >.>

Tales of Symphonia.
Although this comes close, I have to go with Golden Sun. Not the second, the first. I just loved it. The story, the characters, the battles, every little bit of it.
I actually preferred Golden Sun: The Lost Age. It added a lot of depth to the combat, the puzzles, and the "villains".

Diablo 2 if we want to count that as an actual RPG,

Final Fantasy 6, the only Final Fantasy I have beaten having played all of the 8 and 16 bit ones, and I've beaten it 4 times.

That should show you how much I like it :p

Edit: Woops Holy Crap OMGWTFBBQ shizniztastic!

I forgot Kotor.

God Damn.
The KoToR series would have benn a shoo-in for my favourites...IF THEY HAD FINISHED THE DAMN GAMES PROPERLY.

Morrowind. The creativity that was put into writing the games story, makes it truly epic.

Anyway, my favourite RPGs is Planescape: Torment. No other game I've played comes close to its storytelling, plot and depth. Truly a great RPG.

Was I the only one that didn't get along with that game?

Fantastic writing and plot, but the pacing was so slow I just couldn't keep with it. I got to the 2nd chapter but by that point I was so exhausted with the first location I just couldn't be bothered.

I understand why it's people's favourite, but I'd just like to know if I was the only one it didn't work for?

In terms of the RPG's that get almost everything right? Mass Effect and Final Fantasy 12. Plus, Final Fanatsy 9 which was my very first RPG/adventure game.

Anyone who doesn't say Planescape: Torment is a heretic and must be purged.
I should probably give this game a go then =p (Been meaning to play it for a while now, its just on the backburner of rpgs i'll get around to playing at some point. Like NWN1&2, Lost Odyssey and Tales of The Abyss)

Final Fantasy VII
yeah I'm a tool AND WHAT

Persona 3 - 4
For showing that jrpgs can still be fresh and that it doesn't have to be the same old pseudo sci-fi with androgynous protagonists ( although the protagonists are still a bit like that)

Morrowind/Oblivon
any games where I'm clocking up 500hs on one character can't be bad.

Fallout 1
3 is (lets be honest) just a new skin for oblivion, 2 is the same as 1 just with more kit and less focus. The definitive experience, water chip not included.

Torment
Because every rpg needs a wisecracking floating skull.

Yakuza 2
Aside from the awesome realtime combat and well told, involving storyline, the sheer ammount of distractions availible will consume you. From trying to drink every beer availible in the city to courting escort girls and blowing all your cash on expensive gifts for them.

Shenmue 1&2
Before GTA this was the big open city experience. Just make sure your home by 11 o'clock or Ine- San will get worried. Talk to anyone, solve the mystery or just collect capsule toys. Plus the setting of 80's Japan and Hong-Kong is pretty immersive.

Wild Arms 1
cowboys and exp ... united for the first time in an unholy union
