What's your favourite underrated game that you KNOW! is awesome!?

Wild ARMs 1. Released around the same time as FF7 and was drowned in its hype. IMO, it was a better game than FF7, with the exception of the graphics.

Also, LUNAR: Silver Star Story Complete and LUNAR: Eternal Blue Complete. These games are absolute gems, yet hardly anyone ever talks about them. Truly awe inspiring games. Too bad Working Designs is gone, now. It's a shame - they were one of the few gaming companies I could count on for quality games.

Far Cry 2. Secretely it's an awesome game. Hilarious too. Just look at it like a cheesey action cartoon that takes itself a bit too seriously.

I would have liked the game had there not been pointless malaria pill retrieval missions. For me my favourite underrated game would be metro 2033. I think that game flew over many heads unfortunately. Also, assuming that everyone on these forums likes to read, the video game is based on a very well written book. How about that.

The World Ends With You. Normally DS games are just a bunch of mini games but this game was actually pretty awesome. Good story, interesting gameplay, and an awesome soundtrack! This game was a 9/10 for me.

Alpha Protocol. Amazing story, strong RPG elements, and some stealth gameplay. Aside from some balancing issues (getting forced into a boss fight you can't sneak around in when ALL of your skills are stealth related) and some stupid AI (violently kicking the literal shit out of a body guard that is standing directly next to another body guard without him noticing the loud *thud* from my kicks, the guys scream and the loud *thud* from him getting slammed into the ground) the game is all around good.

I'd like to recommend:

Arc Rise Fantasia (WII): Great battle system and challenge; might not like the English VAs at the beginning.

Super Paper Mario (WII): The only reason this wonderful game is "hated" is because it chose to be the Paper Mario series' take on an action RPG. (Ok; it's a solid, Paper Mario platformer with inns and other RPG elements. I still think it's a Paper Mario game, and it has the most epic, detailed plot of all Mario games (except TTYD, and that's only because of Bobbery and the Glitzville arc). The villains are well-developed, character arcs are valid, and Luigi has a major role in the game (I admit the last is personal preference).

Matrix: Path of Neo, someone said Enter the Matrix, and i loved that game too. But Path of Neo was the best. You got to explore some extra story, like what Neo was doing while he was a superhero, the fighting was cinematic and incredibly fun. Like the part where you kill a million Mr. Smiths...

And the ridiculous alternate ending to the matrix trilogy...

I really like the expansion for NWN2, Mask of the Betrayer. Main game, is pretty good, but Mask of the Betrayer has one of the best stories for any RPG.

I would also say that the Pokemon RPGs Explorers of Time/Darkness was underated, but in my mind, a gem.

Remembered a couple others:

Age of Mythology: I like this title a lot more than the Age of Empires games. It has a very well written and fun single player campaign and I love the varied and colorful mythology-inspired units. Great RTS.

Devil Summoner and Devil Summoner 2: These games seem to get pegged as "Shin Megami Tensei-light" in reviews, but they still provide the a good level of challenge and complexity in my opinion. The demon fusion and various attacks are still intact, but combat is real time as opposed to turn based. I like that the demons have a lot of individual character and also that 1920s Japan is an rarely used setting. Both games have very good detective stories, though the first one is a bit more ridiculous and madcap. Devil Summoner 2, which added a lot of polish to the combat, did seem to earn a bit more attention and critical praise than its predecessor.

I REALLY REALLY liked Shadowrun which seemed to get dumped on by critics. Someone else mentioned Psychonauts which I also loved.

Tales of Symphonia

I know that Nintendo finally made a "Player's Choice" edition, but seemingly everyone I know has never even played or heard of this game. I think part of why it is so obscure is because it is a JRPG on the Gamecube, and thus is seen as having all the negative drawbacks of the JRPG genre, which is depressing. While the game does have the usual brooding, it does have real time combat, but what puts it over the top for me is it's story and villain. It's probably one of the greatest games to bring up such a large moral issue, without forcing you to make a choice for whatever gameplay reason is the current fad at the time. It just forces you to stop and think about it every time you think of the game. I am not going to reveal anything else about it because the spoilers would ruin the experience, but for real go play this game if you haven't yet.

War of the Monsters! This is one of the most awesome beat 'em ups I can think of. Giant open world. Hundred foot high, super imaginative monsters and fully destructible environments make it one of the best games I ever played. And when I say fully destructible environments, I mean it. Literally being able to grab your opponents and throw them through a skyscraper is a joy that is not easily found anywhere else.

Another one I can think of is Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle Cars, or SARPBC for short. Seriously, if you have at least one or two friends, then you can get huge amounts of satisfaction out of this game. It's basically a loose soccer game with, as the name implies, acrobatic rocket-powered battle cars. In playing fields that are sealed off in domes, there's no boundary and the awesome physics allow you to pull off some epic goals.

If anyone has a PS3, check out SARPBC and if you have a PS2 and see War of the Monsters, buy it and play the crap out of it.

i know it is embarassing but tales of symphionia dawn of the new world. I know it wasn't the same as the first and I tried to love the bad story, but it is a tales game so while most people hate it I still liked it. Actually I loved the combat and how in this one you got more experience for harder modes.

I ended up beating it 4 times so yeah it would have to be my favorite under rated game.

Steel Battalion, Armed and Dangerous, and Breakdown
