Being a PC gamer MW2 was obviously the horrible failure of the year.

Not actually sure about a goty, yet to play dragon age though (tempted by prototype, whilst shallow it was stupidly fun).

As much as I'm boycotting it, why did everyone think MW2's single-player was miserable? At least it was exciting, from what I saw. Brief, but memorable if you didn't read all the spoilers online.

maybe batman arkham asylum.... but thats taking into account i havent played any of the new-ish releases (left 4 dead 2, modern warfare 2, assassins creed 2, dj hero)
but arkham asylum was awesome so i'd say it'd still win it even after i'd played those

Well it certainly had it's moments and a lot of the level design I found great, but there were a couple missions that I'd even go as far as calling atrocious.
My main gripe was when you get shot, blood progressively covers the screen preventing you from seeing and every time you are shot, your gun jumps up a bit each time making it nearly impossible to aim properly. Then you try and run for cover, but because you can't see, you basically pick a random ass direction and run that way hoping to run behind a magical force-field of happiness. But you end up running into a wall and being shot to death.
Other than that it was good.
OT: My game of the year was probably Assassin's Creed 2 and my disappointment was Resident Evil 5.

My disappointment of the year was Brutal Legend. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, it was just too damn short, and it got a bit boring around the middle.
That's where multiplayer comes into play you person.

O.T. Best: Brutal Legend. Funniest and most original game of the year with a multiplayer that may have a few balance issues, can be a blast once you figure out counters to the fucking Fire Baron Rushers. At least Tim says those fuckers will get nerfed.

Disappointment: MW2. Short Story, meh Co-Op, but the Multiplayer was good. Even though the Model 1887s and Javelin glitch make me rage.

Okay the gripes the other guy mentioned were in CoD4 as well as MW2, so let me give it a shot. The first game had a very nice relatively plausible campaign, Middle Eastern extremists backed by Russian ultranationalist who had a realistic plan. Oh and they killed off your main character unexpectedly, MW2 on the other hand...

Had a fucking crazy excuse for a plot twist (Sorry spoilers will abound in this critique, but honestly we have all played or seen or read the story of MW2.) Where a general from the first game goes essentially bat shit crazy and decides the ONLY way to restore the U.S. as a superpower is by starting World War 3, and the best way he can think of doing this is creating a terrorist strike on a Russian airport, having an American get framed for it, then hoping the Soviets will say "Fuck it, instead of asking for the traitors or attempting diplomacy lets just invade the shit out of America." So everything goes all Red Dawn, Soviets, (Yes I know they are Russia now, but honestly this game wanted them to be commies so badly it hurt.) invade Washington D.C. Price launches a FUCKING EMP!!! at Washington D.C. (Also would have loved to have been in the warroom when they detected that: Mr. President, we see a nuclear wessel coming at us from the Soviets who as you should know invaded us earlier today. "Don't worry about it, we don't want to retaliate here, we need to be seen as the sane reasonable party. I will not go down in the history books as the greatest mass murderer since Adolf Hitler.")

Oh right, so then really fuck it just watch Dr. Strangelove, reverse the roles, (But keep Ripper as an American) Cut out all things Peter Sellers related, and get rid of the apocalyptic ending and you should have a decent idea of what the game is about, oh and then pretend that the movie is supposed to be taken seriously.

Also FFS they kill off three PCs, one PC is introduced in one mission only to be KILLED OFF in the very same mission. Another one was introduced a mmission before he was killed off. So there are the critiques I could level against MW2.

Game of the Year: Assassin's Creed II. Absolutely wonderful and improves on everything from the original with only a few very minor problems like repetitive game play and the money thing kind of sucked.

Runner up: Demon's Souls

Disappointment: I was going to give it to MW2 but then I remembered that the first one was a disappointment, so this one didn't surprise me. So I guess biggest disappointment should go to...Brutal Legend!

Yeah, I didn't like it. It was boring and the fact that it was done by Tim Schafer only put salt into the wound.

Game of the Year? Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood.
Disappointment of the Year? Just about everything else. 2009 in general was pretty disappointing, 'cause everything I was actually looking forward to got pushed back/canceled.

Game of the year has to be Modern Warfare 2, because I am a console gamer.

Disappointment of the year has to be borderlands. Oh god I followed that game for two years. It was fun until the second playthrough and then it got dull, there was no point in going back to do any of the quests and there were an unbelievable amount of broken promises.

Blah blah blah, people whine about the best games of the year not being good enough.

My GotY is probably Assassin's Creed 2.
Biggest disappointment... eh, hard to say. I enjoyed most things I actually wound up buying. Oh, Halo Wars. Wasn't the magical gap-bridging game I was hoping would bring RTS games to consoles.

Game of the year? Either Demon's Souls or Flower. Probably Demon's Souls because I've sunk 45 hours into it and still have more to do before I face the final boss for the first time.

Disappointment? Maybe Need for Speed: Shift, because though I wasn't particularly hyped for it, I couldn't get past the demo without thinking "why has it earned such good reviews?"

Game of the Year: Batman Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Assassin's Creed II, in that Order.

Disappointment: Definitely Resident Evil 5. I love the series, but the story in this one was junk, and the gameplay was RE4 all over again. I expected better, Capcom :(((

My game of the year is definitely Dragon Age: Origins. It's pretty damn close to my idea of the perfect RPG, and with the powerful toolset, I'm sure there'll be plenty of mods out there that can help bring it even closer to my ideal RPG.

Disappointment of the Year? Hmm... the closest thing to a disappoint for me is the fact that SEGA has delayed Alpha Protocol for some utterly arbitrary reason that has nothing to do with hyping up or improving the game. This is the second time that they've done this, and if SEGA's track record is any indication... Alpha Protocol is now in danger of becoming vaporware.

Game of the Year: Left4Dead 2.

Disappointment of the Year: I got 2, for different reasons.

1 - Assassin's Creed 2 - Because it's only released for PC in 2010. A game that's not released on the PC might as well not exist.

2 - Modern Warfare II - More of the same, the online is one of the worse online experiences around, and price hike.

To everyone who calls MW2 a disappointment: what were you expecting? Many of you say it's more of the same, but did you really think they were going to revolutionize the formula?

Seriously, guys.

DGotY has to be.... Uhhh.... I don't know. I didn't really play any disappointing games this year. I must say that I will be devastated if ME2 is a disappointment next year, though.

My game of the year would have to be Assassins Creed 2.
Disappointment would have to be certain parts of MW2. They improved a lot but some of it still makes me think "what a rubbish game".
