I'll have to pick Mass Effect 2 for this year's GOTY. Part of my brain is nagging me to pick FF9, since I recently downloaded, played, and beaten the game for the first time. But that game came out 10 years ago, so I can't!

Mass Effect 2

Brilliant story line
Characters are unique and display a good level of feeling and personality
Music was awesome
Moral choice system actually affected the game

definitely game of the year for me!

Mass effect 2, its in my top 5 favorite games. I've played through both M.E's like 5 times each and yet I've always been the default male shepard and a paragon...I need to play a female renegade next...shit this thread is making me want to play it again...

GUN doesn't look bad. [http://store.steampowered.com/app/2610/]
Meh. I played Gun a while back and I didnt care for it much. Not very open and a boring story. Slo-mo shooting worked okay though.

GUN came before it and was really great as well. In fact a lot of the gameplay style seems to come from that (and yes GTA). I'd suggest checking it out since it will only be like £5 or so now.
I played GUN a while back. It was okay but it didnt seem like anything special. RDR was many, many times better. At least IMO.

hehe, out 1 day and it is already GOTY, must be good I guess...
It's mind blowing. Everything is just so fresh and it builds on the wow formula in an incredible way. Know what? That one day has been amazing.

Well, forgot to mention Minecraft, I know that it's now released yet but... damn it's good anyway!

I have two.

Mass Effect 2.

I don't remember the last time I cared so much about a character I made. BioWare perfected how to do the "create your own main character" by making you the consciousness behind a person with a pre-existing personality and disposition, rather than simply putting you in control of a silent avatar and having you make its choices as if it were you.

During the final mission, I was actively planning out who to send into the mouth of hell and for what role, to maximize survivability. Instead of Shepard becoming me, I became him in every sense of the word. I was an asshole where I wouldn't have the heart to, and a kind person where I probably should have been tougher. I became someone else entirely. I cared for my crewmates and wanted to make friends with them. I felt a connection with Shepard unlike any that I've felt with any other game character yet.

And,

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn.

For the first time in my life as a gamer, I had my faith rewarded. This is the first time I've experienced what it is to WAIT for a sequel to a series you thought was dead. I played GS1 on the GBA and it changed my life; I realized I liked turn-based RPGs and opened my mind to a wonderful genre of games. I went through seven motions in seven years after beating GS2 as a freshman in High School:

1) Yearning ("THE LOST AGE LEFT THINGS OPEN TO A SEQUEL, BRING IT ON!")
2) Fandom ("GARET GETS TOGETHER WITH MIA AND I'LL PROVE IT, DAMMIT.")
3) Envy ("WHY DOES FIRE EMBLEM GET A SEQUEL AND GOLDEN SUN DOESN'T?")
4) Acceptance ("If there's a sequel, there is, if not, there won't.")

And so time passed and I grew up...leaving High School behind and well into my college years...

5) Revival (I squealed inside the cafe where I found out that GS3 was being made.)
6) Hype ("This game is gonna kick SO MUCH ASS. But what if it doesn't?!")
7) Fulfillment. ("It is EXACTLY like the previous games. This is so beautiful.")

GS: Dark Dawn was a comeback in all the awesome ways. It's the beginning of a new RPG franchise, it's a continuation of my childhood, it's a great game overall that is every bit as fun as its predecessors, and even better in certain places...True fulfillment. Thinking about this game makes me pity the X-Com fans who have to watch their series fall prey to the "reboot" syndrome.

god of war iii and super meat boy are the only two really good 2010 games i've played.

i vote god of war iii because it did not cause me to gravely damage both myself and my pc.

Fallout new vegas would've won if it wasn't glitched but otherwise it would be either black ops or Brotherhood

Mass Effect 2 for the reasons mentioned above. It took the original, which was essentially my favorite game on current-generation consoles, and made it (mostly) better.

I often don't buy new games because all I need comes from the past, but one game I did buy and would definitely say for GOTY has gotta be Red Dead Redemption. Why? because I've had far too much fun in that game for it not to be GOTY :p

Mass Effect 2. I've played all the possible contenders (with the exception of Pacman: CE) for GOTY and it's got them all beat. The only one that has come close in my mind is Red Dead Redemption, which is masterful.

The only game this year I've played at least 10 times: Mass Effect 2. No contest.

Strange Journey, a bit archaic but reminds why I love the SMT series: Bad ass demon, dark atmospheres, decent moral choice systems and tons of customization.

P3P is my runner up only because it's a re release and I feel weird recounting those . They could have just re skined and re translated P3 and called it a day but they didn't. They put in a new dungeon, new social links, cleaned up the combat and made me like Yukari. I'd actually say it's better than FES(though FES is still awesome).
