- First person shooter.
- Really difficult. Everyone dies in a few hits and all gear degrades in quality very quickly.
- Little to no HUD.
- Scavenging supplies and equipment is greatly encouraged. You won't be able to have the same gun for anything more than 2 hours.
- A persistant world similar to S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but on drugs.
- Like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. crazy shit often tends to happen, except its crazier and happens more often.
- Everything is hostile, or dead.
- Your character needs to eat and sleep.
- Your character becomes noticibly more insane as the game goes on.
- It rains a lot. Every now and then theres a total monsoon which will completely wipes things off the map, changing the game considerably.
- The game's world has its own really odd weather patterns. It might rain for a month straight, snow for a while, become incredibly hot soon afterwards for about a week, then go back to snowing. Then maybe it'll rain acid, for fun.
- The weather and climate have a huge impact on gameplay and your character. When it's really hot plastic equipment might begin to melt, when it's really cold metal components might freeze shut rendering guns useless. It might become so foggy that you wander through a forest and accidently collide with a bunch of crazy NPC's. The player needs to learn to adapt to the constantly changing world.
- Environments vary significantly, there are deserts, there are jungles, there are oceans and there are snowy mountain ranges. Sometimes a forest will suddenly and strangely end and a desert will begin, because the game's world is weird like that.
- Mutants
- Crazy people
- Aliens
- Monsters
- Aliens and Monsters
- Shitloads of black humour
- Survival horror elements
- Melee combat
- Lots of guns

The game you just described is called Metro 2033

OT: My perfect game would be a ) the movie Suckerpunch made by the guys who made silent hill 2 ( team silent if i remember correctly ) . Seriously that movie would only make sense in a video game setting , Silent hill 2 style , it was be the single best horror game ever.

B) a WJRPG (WRPG + JRPG ) Finalfantasy meets Dragon age:O meets Oblivion. an Open world , moral choice , non linear JRPG Final fantasy 6 style or Persona 4 style. You also get to choose who the main character falls in love with O v O one can only dream.

RAGE!
...And that is? There's always several games being released on days like that so it's a realy vague statement.
Well, I guess it's already been done before, but this game looks like it could pull off the post-apocalyptic world thing, for me anyway. I didn't like Fallout or Borderlands, but this looks freaking awesome.

-ability to switch between first and third person
-Choices that actually affect the game (ala alpha protocal)
-Insane amounts of custimazation
-open world and not like the bullshit mafia II version that means the whole world is traffic and only has like 2 different shops
-Good story and believable characters
-Hoardable health kits
-Little bit of comedy doesn't hurt
-A travel system that makes sense

That's about it.

Open-world, massive universe to get into, very dynamic characters, orchestra music, and a perfect mix of sci-fi with high fantasy undertones.

Oh yeah! physics that would make a engineer drool.

A superhero sandbox game where you can literally go all around the entire world, visiting major city and iconic location in the world.

or Saints Row: Worldwide, where, again, you take the action all around the world.

or a new Crackdown game with the level of story choice that New Vegas had... multiple endings and all.

One where you help the Agency usher in an era of order at the expense of the people's freedom.
One where you aid the various criminal elements in a gang-run city.
One where you take over the city for yourself, choosing how it will be run. (like the wildcard ending)
One where you aid some idealistic, well-meaning group that will help the poor and try to rebuild the city (whatever city it may be, some japanese city maybe, it'd be a nice change of pace to sandbox games) but ultimately can't make tough decisions
And a perk system.
And weapon mods.
damn i want a new crackdown game

i don't know. i REALLY want more sandbox games that fit my niche interests, i don't have enough of them :(

EDIT: Borderlands and Crackdown come VERY close. and i mean VERY damn close

Just Cause 2 with somewhat Red-Faction-esque destruction and more insane physics-defying tricks.

I think a nice soundtrack would go well with it too.
This sounds a lot like my perfect game but the voice acting would also have to be fixed.

A game in which everything You do affects something in some way. Hoping that Skyrim will get close to this with the ability to mess with the economies of towns and wipe civilizations off the map, maybe even lure a dragon in to destroy certain buildings?

Well, accuse me of 'cheating' if you have to, but I believe that a perfect game is impossible. Simply because every game could use improvement in some way or another. Yes, even some of the games I enjoyed the most.

[joke]It's baffling that I wasn't consulted when they were programming 'em.[/joke]

Well aren't you guys party poopers . Also wrong . Now if you read the question correctly.

The OP asks: what's YOUR idea of a perfect game,

and not : what IS a perfect game.

The former implies that it is subjective , as in what would be perfect for you , meaning it could still have flaws but to YOU it is perfect . While the latter would need to be completly objective and everyone would need to agree that it is perfect and flawless, without blemish, which is impossible.Everything is in how the sentence is formulated , and actually the OP did a good job of formulating it correctly. But then again theres always those party crashers that see GAME and PERFECTION in the question and be like IT NO EXIST !.

L.A Noire with more main protaganist charecter depth, also the go to sleep to save concept. Also the ability to drop in and out of cases so you work from the in-game hours investigating from 9-5

Actually, my entire rating system is based around preventing a 100 (perfectly good) and a 0 (perfectly bad) game.

But this is actually more optimistic than pessimistic. I'm not satisfied with just "good enough" or "flawed but good". I dream of a perfect game, even subjectively perfect for me, but know it likely won't happen.

A game that I'm currently designing based on a steampunk fantasy world that is also of my own design. I could expound at length about it, but then someone would probably steal my idea...

Engaging story, high immersion, allows you to play as you want, great music.

Oh, and:
A great, big world.
A fast and fun way of getting around that world.
A possible morality system that doesn't show you how "evil"/"good" you are.
A great grasp of it's aesthetic. For example, matching colors and themes.
Graphics would be a nice thing to have, but not as important.

And, above all, it has to push a lot of envelopes.

Oblivion, InFamous and Shadow of the Colossus are very good examples.

(Yes, I know StoC doesn't have a morality system.)

I'd say a remake of NeoCron [http://ng.neocron.com/] with upgraded grafic, better AI, obviously a lot of bugs squashed, no borders to the zones and a big company backing it up.

Maybe a Free-To-Play scheme where you can buy tokens for knick knacks and cosmetics, but you can also earn tokens at a VERY slow pace through missions or some such.

Then I'd never see the light of day again!
