So my all friends here, what is your fav and least fav video gaming genre?

For me My Fav genre are Stealth (if done properly) and FPS (most specifically fast paced mindless twitch shooters. because i hate FPS which are slow, rely on aim down the sight and cinematic). these 2 genres are what i adore most. but i can play anything as long as its good. but 2 of best type of FPS i think are fast paced twitch shooters and FPS/RPG hybrids.

My least fav genre would be open world games and RPGs, i like few action RPGs here and there. most specifically FPS/RPG hybrids. but most of them are boring. and japenese ones are just even worse. only open world game if its count i like was Mafia but because it was more focus. semi open world games are what i absolutely love. I also cant stand Cover based shooters and point and click graphic adventure games.

Eh, most genres can be fun when done well. Likewise, any game can be shit regardless of genre.

However, I do have an abiding love of turn-based, small scale strategy games. Emphasis on small scale. Think XCOM, not Civilization.

As for disliked genres, I've never been able to get on board the JRPG train.

Me too. I hate JRPG because they are too animish, girly and emo. if more JRPG are like dark soul and bloodborne then i may not hate them much.

My favourite is western RPGs (not big on JRPGs), mainly story driven ones like Dragon Age and The Witcher, and stealth games like Hitman, Tenchu , etc. Least favourite is probably sports or driving games. Haven't played either genre in the last 20 years.

Nah, Dark Souls was way too girly and emo for a hard, manly man like me.

I mean Jesus, it starts with your character sulking like a ***** in an asylum cell until a knight in shining armour gives you the key to get out. I want to play a real, manly protagonist who gets out by himself.

I like lots of genres. FPS, WRPG, JRPG, RTS, platformers, puzzle games, adventure games and so on. Although it would be more correct to say I tend to like specific games within a genre, rather than the genre as a whole. Many of my favorite games of all time are FPS, but that doesn't mean I'm more likely to like any and every FPS, in fact it's more the opposite.

There are some genres I'm apathetic towards, like fighting games or visual novels. Maybe I've yet to find one I really like, but until now they've invatiably been sort of 'meh' to me. Enjoyable in short bursts, but nothing more.

And then there are the genres I just plain don't care for, like most sports & racing games. I particularly really don't like any that are simulations or otherwise try to be realistic. They bore me to tears. But sometimes exceptions are made for games that go in the opposite direction. For example, I love me some Rocket League, but despise FIFA. WipeOut thrills me, yet Gran Turismo puts me to sleep.

Favorites: action-RPG, action/adventure, single player shooters.
Least favorite: strategy, sims, fighting games, sports games, MMOs, multiplayer only, pretentious indie and Ubisoft(it's a genre).

'Traditional' RPGs(both western and weaboo) are also among my least favorite but still have a few gems I really love like Witcher 3 and FF7.

Faves:
1. Strategy - I love to get my megalomania on!
2. RPG - Oldschool party management, leveling up and quests that are more than just "go here and kill x"? Yes please!
3. Stealth - Anything that immerses me enough where I find myself breathing quietly in RL to avoid detection is awesome!

Meh list:
1. Fighting Games - I never saw the point of all that button mashing!
2. Platformers - My frustration threshold is too low, and platform games that killed me every time I wasn't pixel perfect completely turned me off the genre.
3. Point & Click Adventures - I like the stories that some of them tell, but I became very bored very quickly with the whole "select random inventory item and combine with other item/person/scenery until something happens" mechanic!
Besides it's:

WRPGs are top dog, sports are at the bottom (unless farming/stree cleaning/sanitation simulators can be counted as a caregory).

I also like small scale strategy/tactical games like XCOM, the Bureau, Splinter Cell, Rainbow 6, and XCOM:Apocalypse.

For whatever reason straight up romantic adventure game, like of JRPG visual dating novels, just creep me out. HuniePop creeps the shit out of me. And I guess because its, at its core, a sexual fantasy/gratification game, so you're always mentally jacking yourself off if not physically. Now I know most of them are insanely calm and clean compared to most Japanese anything, but there's something inherently wrong about getting a harem of giggling, blushing, barbie-skinned dead eye fuck dolls to think they're Selena Kyle and you're naked Bruce Wayne.
And I dunno, it just makes me shiver. Like I'd rather a friend say he was just watching porn than playing HuniePop.

May I suggest Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate off GoG? It's small scale(1-3 squads of 5) turned base strategy with permanent death, limited resources and an actually competent AI over a pretty length campaign.
And unlike XCom, it has a random skirmish battle mode.

It's fine to not like fighting games, but to reduce them to "button mashing" implies a pretty poor understanding of the nuances of their gameplay. It might not look like it to you, but they are far more strategic and complex than you are giving them credit for.

Yeah and you can actually play as a girly girl. How un-manly is that?

OT: Not a fan of fighting games. Being asked to remember all those combos annoys me.

I'm a big fan of all types of RPGs, but I also enjoy the smaller turn based strategies a l? X-comn or Fire Emblem. I've always adored platformers, especially any classic Nintendo output.

I enjoy story driven FPS games, but for the life of me cannot enjoy modern military shooters like COD or Battlefield. Generally any multiplayer-only game is an automatic "no" from me too (looking at you EA Battlefront)

I've been always a fan of my FPS since childhood, but action-platformers and MetroidVania games are also pet genres of mine.

As for genres I don't like, well... I really can't say I hate a genre. I hate some gameplay mechanics associated with certain genres, specifically bare bones turn based combat, like in Final Fantasy. That's something that I can't fathom how am I suppoused to find it fun. If it has some charm or additional strategy attached to it, like in Earthbound, Undertale, FF:Tactics or XCOM then yeah, it's the bees knees. But just old style turn based combat? Ugh, no thank you.

Game series that I've really enjoyed for the last few years are:

- Shin Megami Tensei games (for DS/3DS)
(Note: I hate Persona series though, it's too stupid for my taste).
- The Elder Scrolls series

Genres and games that I truly despise are the ones that:
- build for online mp in mind
- Any shooters or sports and so on...
