I had a conversation about this with a friend. Would you go out with someone who has the same name as one of your parents? Part of me says that letting names get in the way of such things is dumb, but on the other hand it would be weird. How about you guys?

Edit: what names, if any, put you off, or would be a problem for you

I have the same name as my girlfriend's dad. I've never heard of that getting in the way of anything. My girlfriend doesn't say anything about it. I mean, if the person you were dating had the same name as you, there might be weirdness, but even then it wouldn't matter that much.

Considering that I don't really talk to my parents, and that I normally call them "Mom" or "Dad", I can't possibly see why it would get in the way of anything.

My Parents are called Virginia and Satbir.

I've never met anyone else with those names.
You've never heard of someone named Virginia? That's quite common here in the South.

Considering that I use pet names all the friggin' time (dear, honey, etc.), I don't know that it'd be a very big deal.

Its not weird at all.

...Not sure why this would concern anyone.
this is the same friend who thought that Michael Bay was a good director, normal person logic doesn't apply...

Sadly this happened to me. I met a very nice girl who even asked my name and then she told me hers... and then I laughed because I was thinking "I hope she's not a psychology student". She then asked me why I laughed and instead of doing the clever thing and just making something up I accidentally told her the truth.

Weirdness ensued.

tbh at least I didn't tell her it was also the name of the downs syndrome girl that kept trying to kiss me at primary school. that would have been much more awkward.

No it wouldn't bother me, but I can never take a girl whose name is Sophie seriously (I know one) I'm sorry but it's hard when they share a name with my dog!

I think something like that would only be weird during introductions and sex, and I can't see any girl with my mothers name being my type anyway, so I don't think it would matter for me. Lets go to imagination land and say some girl with my moms name was my type, and was into me, if I felt weird about it, I'd just call her by her middle name.
