WoW is the best MMORPG out there atm. Definitely worth every penny if you spend at least 10 hours on it a day. I quit a long time ago though due to career commitments.

Worth it if you spend 10 HOURS *a day*? Are you being serious? So, 10 hours gameplay, 8 hours sleep, that gives you a precious 6 hours to be a normal human being!

How well adjusted you must be o_O'. Have you seen the outside world lately? =D I mean, that;s some seriously impressive commitment there, but, you know, girls and stuff, are so much more interesting than 20 hours in front of the box.

Dude, back then I had to play 18 hours a day, 6 hours sleep 0 hours of being a human to feel I got my money's worth. I've wasted my life.

Played WoW for ages while I was working in a QA dept. Was a good laugh playing with friends but got bored after hitting the level cap as I couldn't be bothered raiding/PVP grinding.

MMOs in general I love the idea of but few entertain me for an extended period of time. Hoping The Old Republic will change that though! Looks very promising!

To me MMOs are fun if you get a bunch of your friends together and play, but I only play MMOs that dont have a monthly fee attached to them(Guild Wars, and DDO atm). I almost started playing WoW, but the day I was going to buy it the brakes on my car locked up and I had to get it towed to a repair shop.

WoW is a vortex for the leaky brainpan crowd.

But anyway, I draw no distinctions between socializing in the physical realm and socializing in the digital realm, save one: in the digital realm you can kill that annoying asshat if you want to. What distinctions do you draw?

MMORPG's save me money. I like having a game I can play when I can't be bothered playing anything else, but I get bored of new releases in under 2 weeks unless it's some kind of RPG or sandbox game. I don't wanna spend £40 on a new release that I'll get bored of in under 2 weeks like some of my mates do, I'd rather spend £8 and know that what I'm getting is a game I won't even come close to finishing in a month. I have RL friends that play COD all day long, are they as bad as people who play MMO's all day long?

I've hit the level cap on my Rogue on WoW, and I don't regret paying £50 for the 3 months I played it. It was well worth it for the amount of content it provided. It cost me £45 for COD, and all that provided was a 6hour campaign and multiplayer that is the same every time I play it.

World of Warcraft is an excellent game, but people who get addicted have problems above and beyond the game. Maybe your brother has a problem with your family? Maybe he's a teenager?

Grind and grind and grind.
Ideally, playing a game before commenting on it is just good manners.
I know. That's why I commented. Played both Warcraft III and WOW. Liked the 1st one better. Mainly cause of the scale and strategic feel of it. Oh and cause I think of it as a personal triumph that I managed to gather so much wood in one mission. The one before that Level 10 God sent a raid. Zog Zog.

I find that most WoW players aren't the horrible people that most of the internet will attest to them being. My problem with WoW players is the instability of the schedules they carry. I'm part of a Realism Clan out in DOD:S and most of the active staffing are all WoW or Age of Conan or Eve players. So when events are scheduled, they'll excuse themselves halfway through it to go raid, or attack another corp. Its annoying. We'll have people leave the clan to go play WoW and then comeback a week later, burnt out asking to come back in.

I have even lost a few friends to wow. They just disappear one day and appear a few months later saying they'd been on a binge. I don't like binge gaming. I get a good 3-6 hours in a day and that's it. None of this 48-60 hours straight of these games.

Though, I am open to the prospect of a new MMORPG. I don't like fantasy worlds of magic and i'm not into Sci-Fi thats a little more on the Fi than the Sci. It's why I've already pre-ordered Star Trek, and may even pick up The Old Republic if that doesn't wet my whistle.

I've tied my hand at Eve, WoW and Warhamer Age of Reckoning.

My favorite was WAR as there were a few good people who I played with. That's the joy of them, escapism but with other people. MMORPGs are the ultimate form of escapism and, as everyone is there for the same purpose, it can be great fun if you're with like minded individuals.

They are time-consuming and slightly addictive, not to mention expensive for the most part!

The MMO is still a young gender. Very possible the only gender that has been created in the last 15 years. ALL MMO games are based on grind no matter how well it is tried to cover this fact. The only problem with MMO games is that it didn`t evolve pass the ideology that the only way to keep players playing&paying is grind based work for reward.

People that get sucked / suckered in by MMOs to the point of transforming into zombies do this by will and their personality determines their addiction.

Let`s be honest for a sec, all MMO`s look like shait (except maybe Aion), all MMOs have common game mechanics (WoW fans stating different should be ashamed)and the ideas behind them are usually done to death, fun usually wears off in a couple of months, the socializing experience drawn from this type of gaming is an excuse (there are a brazilion ways to socialize you don`t need an elf warlock for that) and competitive gaming can be done in a way that can avoid the 3 months gear farming required to access an arena.

Today I got into a heated argument with my younger brother who, two weeks ago, went out and bought World of Warcraft, all the expansions and a subscription. The amount of time me and my family have seen him since then till now probably accumulates to about 5 minutes.

I personally hate World of Warcraft, and MMORPG's in general. They are the most addicting game types, often reducing the players social activity in real life. An example is one of my mates often chooses his MMO over spending time hanging out with us. Now my own brother is also becoming like this.

What do you think of MMORPG's, World of Warcraft and the rest of them?
Well that is just your friend and your brother being part of a minority. They would be like that with any large game with lots to do. When I played Guild Wars it didn't affect my social life at all. The closest it came to was making me 5 minutes late but that could of been any game as I wasn't watching the time.

Saying MMOs are more addictive than a FPS like CoD or Halo is like saying Cocaine is more addictive than Cannabis. Once again this is more a problem with your friend and brother than the game they are playing.

My opinion on MMOs is that they are good but not for everyone. The openess and the grind of it can turn off some people but others love it. Also has in my opinion one of the best and in come cases easy to get into competitve scene. I firmly believe the people who get "addicted" to them would be like that with anything else with so much to do with other people. As if people can get addicted to them surely video games have such an effect that all those people like Frumpy Mum must be telling the truth and video games are addictive and promote violence.
