I was hoping it would be like Quake 3.

...wow, I bet those words have never been uttered anywhere on the planet before...
What game was that?

I bought Quake 3 hoping it'd be like Quake 2. Twas disappointed. Then about a year after its release the mod community finally seemed to fully kick in and I was no longer disappointed... yes I was... Quake 3's mod community can't compare to Quake 2's... I was less disappointed, would be more accurate.
Go figure, it was Quake 4. =P

Well, I bought Manhunt because, and I quote, "holy shit, it's from Rockstar!" Never heard of the game before, but because it was from Rockstar I had to get it.

I bought Jagged Alliance 2: Gold Pack even though I already owned an earlier copy of the game. I just thought it was so good it was worth buying again.

Mmm sometimes I buy games not for their true game value but for their name. You know for instance you buy Manhunt, ... it just isn't that good a game! Yet I got it in my collection stupid me!

Best one though was Conkers Bad Fur Day, I bought it well because of what it was and you know the game is good to :).

And yes I also fell in the Final Fantasy Trap :! Not all of them are equal some of them are not what you desire. Sigh ...

well, i once had £2,000,000 in swindled £50 notes, but then they were about to become obsolete because the queen didn't like the way her face looked on them so, not wanting to arouse suspicion by taking it all to a bank, i purchased the worlds VERY FIRST VIDEO GAME! for £1,800,000 and then sold it

I took one look at the box and thought

You play a wolf, in Japan, it looks like an old Japanese painting and it's only £20? I am so getting this.

Best impulse buy ever.

I went into town with my parents when I was about 9 with the sole intention of buying a game. I didn't care what the game was, I just wanted a new game. I came home with Rugrats in Paris........

Well you see I had all three of my kidneys removed to throw at my enemies only to find out upon awakening that the hospital staff were under the impression that I was selling them. So after the fight I found myself in Brisbane with 200 smackeroos stuffed into my socks. Beckoned to the video gamatorium by a friendly nerd I decided to buy Metal Gear Solid 4, which promised epic stealth action and later confirmed my suspicion that Hideo Kojima is the world's richest madman.

I got Project Diva because it was a vocaloid game.
I got Drawn to Life because http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GAVaKYmpuQ
I basically own a PS2 because of Kingdom Hearts.
Same thing for PS1 and Final Fantasy X (more accurately, the commercials made me nostalgic for the days of FFI, and as I was like 14 at the time, my mom got me a PS1 and FFIX after I pointed out they were going for like 30 bucks at Gamestop).
And a PSP and Final Fantasy Dissidia.
And PS3 and FFXIII (You may be noticing a pattern here).
You remind me of me... I bought a PS3 a month before FF13 because there was a killer deal at BestBuy with a 42inch Sony Bravia 1080p TV, Console + game for like 1400 after uncle sam... saweeet. Grabbed Little Big PLanet GOTY to play around with until FF13 and GOW3.

I am about to arse myself with an Xbox 360 to play Alan Wake here in a while because I was looking forward to it for the 4 years of development it had only at the last minute to be told its going to the devil himself exclusively.

Oh, and the weirdest reason I've ever bought something was because "It sounded badass". Referring to Legend of Dragoon, which I was not disappointed on.

I bought Quake 4 for Xbox 360 simply because it came with a bonus disc that had a port of Quake 2 on it. I figured that even if Quake 4 sucked, I'd at least have Quake 2, and that's definitely worth my 5 bucks.

Thankfully, Quake 4 was surprisingly fairly fun too, so 'twas a good 5 dollars spent.

I got Bloodrayne 2 on the PC because it came with the movie they made of Bloodrayne. The movie is terrible -- and goes almost porn at one point, I think there was penetration.

I had 50p on me. Might and magic 7 was the only game in the shop i could get for 50p. I called it fate (especially considering that and 8 became my favourite games for years.

Because I'd heard it was so bad, I bought the only copy of Vampire Rain I've ever seen because I seriously didn't want others to suffer through it.

Personally, it's not that bad. Just so, extremely tedious.

Saw a sidebar ad for Nier, noticed the Square Enix logo, freaked out because I had missed that a Square Enix game had come out without me realizing it. Loved the only trailer I could find for it, and rented it for 3 days. Beat it, then decided to buy it because I was apparently one of the few people who absolutely loved it, in spite of all its flaws...

I'm getting black ops after my exams are done strictly to shut up a friend of mine. I plan on ranting to him for a good long while if I don't like it.
