Haven't watched many anime's, so this'll be hard.

2. Elfen Lied
3. Inuyasha
4. Digimon
5. Pokemon

Slight dip in quality near the end there...

Hmm, even if I limit this to series, rather than movies, this is going to be tough...

1. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
2. Martian Successor Nadesico
3. Angelic Layer
4. Dragonball
5. Zoids Chaotic Century/Guardian Force

Honourable mentions to Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Excel Saga, Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula, Wolf's Rain and Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040. Yes I know that makes it more of a top 11, but shush.

And for the heck of it, top 5 movies too...

1. Ghost in the Shell (can you see a pattern...?)
2. Spirited Away
3. Appleseed
4. Millennium Actress
5. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

I facepalm at the lucky star here. It is basically an anime version of seinfeld, a show about nothing, what separates it from seinfeld is the fact it lacks humor. Seriously the only point I see to it is for those who lack humor or if you are a pedophile looking to be fan serviced.
You... How could you? It's lighthearted and funny, that's why I like it. If you don't understand, don't go facepalm on others pleasure... gaarh, that comment of yours really hit a sour spot of mine >.<

I haven't really ranked them, but I bring you the five series I liked the most, in no particular order:

- sola
- Lucky Star
- Haibane Renmei
- Serial Experiments Lain
- Zettai Shounen

You got to be kidding me???
The hellsing OVA is the anime that actually follows the manga!
in other words, the good one!

I'm not a huge fan of anime. Every now and again I dip my feet in the waters and come out with either something I despise or something I find very underwhelming. Popular series like Death Nore and Neon Genesis Evangelion I didn't have a whole lot of love for. Every once in a blue moon, though I find something to hold my attention for a while, so while I don't have a top 5, I do have a top 3. Those are, in order:
3. Samurai Champloo - It was like Cowboy Bebop in feudal Japan and with hip-hop culture and historical anachronism thrown in. Nujabes had a fantastic soundtrack for the series and the animation was solid. The plot was the weak point, but it worked well enough to link together the adventures of the 3 main characters.
2. Cowboy Bebop - It goes without saying that this show is one of the best anime series ever made. Fantastic soundtrack, fun adventures and a great ending. It was everything I wanted in a sci-fi anime without any of the bullshit.
1. Claymore - Now, considering some of the anime conventions it follows I thought I might not like the series, but I was just immediately drawn in somehow and I ended up watching the entire series the first time through in a little less than 3 days. It's the only anime that has ever made me want to read the manga (which I now do) and it is the only anime that has ever made me do fan art and if I swore if I ever did anime fan art I would seriously reconsider my life.

Now if we are counting films (which I wasn't) then I could do another list... you may see a trend there.
[small](6. Tekkonkinkreet)[/small]
5. Laputa: The Castle in the Sky
4. My Neighbor Totoro
3. Spirited Away
2. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind**
1. Princess Mononke**
*Are actually my top 2 favorite films. The others on the list are in the top 10.
