1-Death Note (great story, characters and everything)
2-Hachimitsu to Clover (Really moving story, fun characters and filled with humour)
3-Toradora! (pretty much the same as #2, but quite different story)
4-Lovely Complex (very shoujo, you like or you don't like)
5-Ghost in the shell, both season (that story is incredible, but the anime is a little hard to find)

Honorable mentions: One Piece, Ouran High School Host Club, School Rumble,Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (so much better than the first one) and many more...

1- Full metal alchemist
2- Cowboy Bebop.
3- Death note.
4- Claymore.
5- Elfen lied.

I think Claymore is a really under-appreciated animé, and from episode 5 to just before the last 2 it's consistently excellent and has great storytelling. It rushed the ending because it caught up with the manga, but it doesn't detract too much from it. It's still great.

1) Hetalia. I'm overly obsessed and nothing can seem to cure it...NOTHING!!!
2) Vampire Knight. Why can't Yuuki and Zero just suck it up already!!??
3) Ouran High School Host Club. *growls at manga cliffy*
4) Hellsing Ultimate. Can I haz next episode nao?
5) FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Why...why does it keep dragging??

Devil May Cry and TMOHS were also contenders for the 5th spot, but I haven't watched them in so long, I feel as I can't really put them there...*sigh*

1. Axis Powers Hetalia

This series is my current favorite. It began as webcomic and was picked up to be animated. It is a comedy that revolves around World War two as the primary "storyline" but then has tons of other strips for lots of other historical events (for example, they did the American Revolution and the Austria War of Succession). Every country is represented by a anthropomorphic character. It is not a series for the easily offended though. It makes fun of stereotypes a lot. For example, America is a tall, blond-haired, blue-eyed guy who is crazy strong but has no concept of geography and loves to eat cheeseburgers and he's always talking about aliens and building giant robots to protect the earth. He is always bickering with England, who obsesses about drinking tea and is convinced he can work black magic. Poland can't screw in lightbulbs by himself and sometimes he cross-dresses, Italy is always crying for Germany to help him, and Russia terrifies everyone except America, who is completely oblivious to him.
Yes, did you watch the episode with Prussia...he was so damn cute as a kid!
