When it has a "SquareEnix" logo on it (with the exception of the remakes).

Aside from that, I'll usually give a game an hour or two to try and get me amused.

Not an RPG fan, eh? Either that or you have a chip on your shoulder for some weird reason. Infinite Undiscovery and Last Remnant not included, I'm almost always impressed with Square Enix's games.

As for me, I give a game a chance till the end. Seriously, it has to be really bad for me not to finish it, because I can squeeze enjoyment even out of really atrocious titles, usually. There are exceptions, but I don't usually buy utter shit, and as much as I'm sure everyone disagrees, mainstream titles are almost never utter shit. Once I've finished a game, I can declare then whether I liked it or not, or on that most rare of occasions declare a game to be so bad as to have no truly redeeming qualities.

When I realize...

Hang on, this isn't fun at all...

Then I realize, oh crap... I just spent $100 on this thing.

Major cases? Spore. Halo 3 to a lesser degree when after a few playthroughs i said 'Hang on, this is emo compared to Halo 1 and 2, where's the funny and the awesome?'

I declared Two Worlds 'crap' after about 20 minutes.

I stick by that ruling.

whilst playing it, you come to the realisation that you hate playing it, and that doing so is a chore.
or in the case of a Game like Mirror's aedge, you get about halfway through, and realise that actually you hate the game itself, but admire it for what it tried to be

On the contrary, I AM an RPG fan, which is the exact reason why I can't approve of SquareEnix at all. Since the merge, their games have been gradually declining in quality, and the only thing that has really been keeping them alive is their over-inflated reputation.
The protagonists are all re-hashed versions of each other, the storylines are all relatively similar, and the gameplay just continues to get worse.

Atlus and Nippon Ichi are just doing a better job when it comes to RPGs, currently.

That's a shame. I'll admit that The Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery both felt unfinished and poorly done, but Square-Enix continues to impress me with games like The World Ends With You, Kingdom Hearts (yeah yeah, I know) and the Final Fantasy series. Even XII, my least favorite in the series, I have to admit was up to snuff.

Then again, I suppose I am admittedly the guy who almost never declares a game utter shit.

about the time you find yourself having to extinguish the flames spurting out of the console due to evil technology put onto the disk by terrorists, or when you just don't like what the game is. an oppinion is a dangerous thing to have

I'm a little less technical then these lads. For me, a game is shitty when you are no longer excited to play it. This holds especially true if this happens in the first hour of gameplay.

"ah shit man, I have to go play Fallout 3 for 2 hrs..." "crappy dude" <--- This scenario is bad

"Dude, I only have 6 hrs left to play wow" <--- This scenario is good

When you've gotten the time to understand the mechanics extremely well, and still don't enjoy it.
