When did Call of Duty become an insult to gamers?

Because it appears that gamers are so good at infighting that they can make anything an insult to another gamer rather than actually creating a cohesion between the community. Plus they assume if you play any game that is simple and fun then you must be simple as well. personally I like a whole host of games, from call of duty and battlefield to Limbo and Zelda, through to angry birds and the total war games.

I think CoD is becoming mentally retarded, or at least the production team behind it. Because this was a statement about MW3: Unfortunatley, there won't be any dedicated servers. So they know that we want them and they already had the right techniques 4 years ago, so why bother with a stupid system which they have stated is going to be worse? Are they even taking the pc gamers seriously?

If someone takes it or uses it as an insult, he or she is a dumbass. CoD is neither good or bad or simple or complicated or anything, it's just another game, some guys like it, some guys don't. [HEADING=3]THAT'S IT[/HEADING]

It's the same reason people bash, say, Justin Beiber or Twilight or Harry Potter - instead of simply not caring about things that have nothing to do with them.
Twilight is some mormon chicks wet dream that appeals to every teen girls Mary Sue fantasy... and Justin Beiber is just the next generic pop singer... they're both about the lowest common denominator, and that's why they're so popular... which is why in 50 years no one will claim them as inspiration liek they would Jimi Hendrix or LotR...

Harry Potter is the only one that has some merit as a good kids book. It's just that people tend to treat it as more then that...

As for the argument about CoD... i'm sure it gets over used, but it totally applies when someone starts criticizing a game as being "too complex" or "not streamlined" or some other BS thing that boils down to "i don't get my skinner box reward fast enough"...

I think the CoD smacktalk began around the 40th MW2 map pack came out. In all seriousness,it may be well made, but lots of things are well made. Take a saltine cracker for instance, well made, but bland and outdated unless you buy add-ons for it every three months.
Yes,I am comparing Call of Duty to a saltine cracker. Deal with it

Right, CoD has no objective proprieties whatsoever... it's efing unique in the universe.

When MW2 surpassed Halo in popularity. Although Call of Duty 4 was when it started to really pick up, and it was unheard of among console gamers until 2.

Seriously, I was lucky to find people who had heard of Call of Duty or United Offensive back in the day, and I still get people who will say with a straight face that Call of Duty 2 was where they got Carentan and Brecourt from. Seriously, it gets annoying when UO, 3, and WaW get overlooked.

I don't think I can agree. I'll see a news report of some variety (...fox...) on the topic of games, and they almost always use footage of CoD unless they are talking of a specific game. And I'm ASHAMED of it. We have amazingly beautiful, compelling, and artistic games, and yet what we are known for is people killing people in a pretty boring way (people killing people can be really cool). I guess not only the fact that is popular, but popular, and, dare I say, immature.
And before CoD it was always Grand Theft Auto. And before that it was Doom. So... the cycle continues.

CoD is the hardcore for the casuals.
Back in the old days that's how i saw Counter-Strike... a lot of people that played it didn't know anything else...

Of course back then having a PC/console at home was rare and everyone played at the e-cafee (except there was little or no internet, so the e- isn't really correct).

It's not a game one can't enjoy, it's just not as complex as most who play it think it is...

Well you can't argue that Doom wasn't less demanding of your mind then a lot of the games that came out at the time...

And GTA2 was more enjoyable to me then #3... driving something in 3 felt like wresting with the controls to me.

Call of Duty (competitive multiplayer) is a Sport, pretending to be a game. Worse still, it succeeded (being the highest grossing franchise in gaming, and all). It threatens to destroy values the gaming community has held dear for decades(complexity, depth, challenge, attention to detail.etc.), and that corners us. And as the saying goes. "A Cornered Animal Is A Dangerous Animal".
What a nice ignorant statement you've got there.

The recent installments were garbage (especially black ops), but MW1 was where it all originated from. And that game was gold. It did alot of things right, that other companies (to their own discredit) have tried to recreate. MW set the bar as to what should be expected in an FPS. But that doesn't mean it's CoD's fault that other companies settle for that "bare minimum" level instead of trying to do better than MW.

Hrm. My avatar does not seem to be cooperating with me. Anyways, I've been playing Call of Duty since the very first one. I'll agree, that the level of skill to play the latest installments in the series require less skill or talent to be as lethal as the earlier games, where only the amazing kids who spent endless ours finding the right rhythms in the game could triumph. However it is not to the point to where a 5.0 K/D isn't impressive. Compared to me, that's damn impressive.

Its because the last two werent as great as people wanted, IMO i loved MW2, but thought black ops was another slimy shit crapped out by treyarch to feed the franchise. nothing better, nothing really new.

i think it is because CoD is retardedly popular and at the same time VERY simple to play
anyone can play it
anyone can be REALLY good at it
Anyone can pick up and play it but by simple logic
If everyone has the ability to be really good at it
Then there is also those naturally gifted enough to be exceptional at it.
That means that "Really good" becomes mediocre.

If you ask me, I think it happened at around the second or third itteration where they changed practically nothing, basically making it a cash grab. No game designed from the ground up can be released yearly. I mean, look at sports games and you'll see what I mean.

CoD = Cliche, milked dry, and Den of Trolls

The way I see it gamers are experienceing another split. We have your "CoD"/hardcore/troll gamers on the left and your "Non-CoD"/causal/"mature" gamers on the right. Those who see games are toys and other who see games as art. I doubt I have many kin who share my vision that one day games might be respectable, but w/e :p .

P.S. I have not thing about CoD personally I just hate the ppl who play it. Same deal with DotA for those of you who know what that is, great game, just horrible gamers.
