When did PvE become "wuss" mode?

Isn't that what all PvP is about anyway?

I used to play City of Heroes and my main character was a controller; extremely easy to kill but was a massive benefit to a team.
Cause

And in the few times I played PvP the same things would always happen. Whenever I was on a team, every single enemy player would go for me, or me and any other controllers on the team (a very rare occurrence),
Effect

in CoH PvP, you go after the controllers and dominators. Always. The alternative is get locked down and pwned by Entrapment or Domination. DPS isn't near the same threat level as spammable AoE target nullification.

To the OP:

PvP guilds are not for PvEers. There will be tension, and you're not helping the guild's goals. Move along to a PvE guild, preferably one that is pushing content at your personal progression. Staying with that guild is like this conversation:

'We need you to decide to either play our game, or go.'
'You can't kick me out, I'm an excellent first base man!'
'Which doesn't help us as we're playing football.'

I hope this hasn't discouraged you from Fallen Earth, which is an excellent (PVE, PVP or RP) MMO.
At first it felt a bit unrewarding with the Zip guns, I felt like I was going to spend my entire time just shooting stuff and doing a pittance of damage because of "RPG Balance"

Then I got a scoped magnum, courtesy of a crafting friend, then he taught me how to gather/craft (not just randomly gather, how to hunt etc.)

I love Fallen Earth...by all things holy...I love it.

So, my philosophy on PvP is "You go stroke your ego, I'll stay over here where I enjoy the game the way I want to" and for that I'm some kind of care bear, all I'm asking is...WTH?
So you can enjoy the game you want to, but others who do are just stroking their ego according to you?
Nope. It's not that the others are enjoying the game they want to. It's that they're doing so, and stroking their egos by mocking the guy who enjoys it a different way.
Really? Quoting the OP:
"I hate PvP (not just for that instance, but multiplayer/PvP as a whole) and I don't ever plan to play it because I don't have to stroke my ego like all these jockeys that try to "be cool, be a MAN!""

From where I'm standing, he's the one mocking them for enjoying the game a different way. Not quite sure what gives you the opposite idea...

PvP has its place. PvE also has its place. Neither makes one "cooler" or a better person in any way shape or form. Games are games, and not serious business.
No matter how many HK's you get on WoW or what your k/d ratio on CoD is, it has nothing to do with the real world. People with that attitude are some of the worst type of douchebag elitists, and rank up there with PvE nutbags who think because their Guild downed x boss as a server first, that means they're king of the world.
I prefer to be respected for being a good father, husband and overall person, not my number of kills or how much gear my toon has.

Facing human player is harder because humans have better AI, usually, but the thing about humans is that they are complete dicks who like nothing more then to fuck you. With AI you know the developers designed some measure of mercy and gave you a chance, with human they'll kill you all day long. Games are meant to be fun. If you don't enjoy PvP then fuck that guild and fuck those people. Don't let anyone tell you how to have fun.

ah I've had this discussion with my gaming friends so many time.

You see, when there's a game that features Coop and competitive multiplayer, I ALWAYS choose coop first.

But my friend ALWAYS wants to 1v1 me or something.

So yeah, you can imagine the arguing. "Why don't you want to fight? Are you too scared to face me? huh? it's not fun if we aren't playing against each other", while I say "But I don't want to fucking kill you, I want to kill with you. It's way more fun to be a team and defeat all the obstacles, rather than getting frustrated or fighting each other in ways that will get repetitive in a few days".

I never had a major argument tho, we just play all modes, but yeah, he ocasionally screws me over when I try to play coop, for the sake of it. I remember that one time playing Battlefront, he jumping in a ship and said "hey man get in the gunner position I'll wait for you", just to take off right when I was about to hop in, then proceed to shove me off a cliff with the ship. I got really mad :|

In my experience it was always a better tactic to lock down the melee characters then take out the ranged. However helpful a controller was in PvE, in PvP they were easily defended against and had no chance of taking anyone else out. And as far as I'm aware, no powerset had a spammable AoE target nullification; anything capable of doing that had a significant recharge time.

When I played wow, I remember going to an enemy area, I got spawn camped a bit, but the best way to get past it was as soon as I spawned, I casted a 3 minute invincibility spell on myself (it also stopped me from moving).
It was rather usefull.

I think you should be allowed to play the game how you want, aslong as its not harming the enjoyment of others.

Having recently bothered to pick COD up and give it another go, I think that pvp is a pile of stupid bullshit.
Maybe its just that game but PVP seems to go like this:

Spawn. Instantly die. Repeat a couple times.
Maybe kill a few guys. Then die to a 'friendly' grenade.
Build up a bit of momentum.
Shoot a guy and he somehow fucking lives, then kills you.
Spawn and die instantly for a bit again.

Gaaaah. What the hell?

If you're on about WoW, the pvp used to be pretty good. Dunno what its like now. But theres no point running around flagged for pvp, just do BGs and the like.

We all play how we want to play, we set our own challenges. In my opinion there is no grater challenge than facing another human player.

It sounds like whatever game this is handles their PvP very poorly. I mean, with camping other players that easily? That's fun only for those of us who can't tell a player-character apart from a computer-controlled AI.

Sill, PvE comes off as a wuss mode because, grind p far enough and a quest to kill mcguffin is brain-dead easy. In PvP you fight real players who are unpredictable and, hopefully, are skilled at the game and the two of you (or your team) deploy strategy and the like.

Course, bad mmos are bad. A bad PvP mode can feel like quest grinding and a bad PvE mode will be boring and stupid.

the way he said that tells me hes been dealing mostly with those personalities which is why he hates pvp. personally i think PVP should stick to FPS and RTS or MMORPGs that are centered around them.

WoW pvp is difficult if you don't have the gear....but then again. It's not hard to get the gear...just kinda time consuming. Hell you can PvE to get PvP gear, and if that's what this guy is talking about (wow) he needs to maybe put some effort into it.....although idk what game dude is playing so idk but chances are....he has PvE gear..and 9/10 times...its shit in pvp.

Pretty much, I get that some people think it's okay, but I feel like the other end of the bell curve.

The reason people are such asshats in PvP is because they will always go for the easiest route to get what the want. In PvE that's no problem because it involves helping your teammates. As far as I'm concerned, PvE is the only true combat element in an MMORPG and PvP is put in to keep the arseholes away from everyone else.
PvE is for bots, it's repetitive, it's piss easy, there is no 'true combat' in doing PvE, you figure out how the AI works then you destroy it.

PvP (done well) is dynamic, requires actual proactive and higher reactive thinking, actually requires teamwork and intelligence. You need strategies, plan B's, and occasionally get inside an opponent's head.

If OP is talking about WoW, PvE became wuss mode around November 13, 2008. Possibly a few months earlier. PvP in WoW is the domain of people who have the time to sit and grind enough honor to get pvp gear.

Neither is fun, nor has it been fun for quite some time.

CoD and other FPS aren't fun for me, but then I'm not really a huge FPS fan. Seems to me a lot of casual gamers go through hell playing those games against kids who have nothing better to do than to hone their skills with a console controller all of their waking lives.

Yes, I'm slightly bitter about MMO pvp. I have hope for SWTOR, though. Beta has been quite fun in the pvp department.

PvP is for campers, it's repetitive, works on victimisation, there is no "true combat" in doing PvP, you figure out where they spawn/who is the weakest then destroy them.

PvE (done well) is dynamic, requires actual proactive threat assessment, actually requires teamwork. You need strategies and backup plans.

Notice what happens when you compare something at it's worst to something at it's best? Yeah, that's fallacious.

I was talking about my own experiences, I did not present them as the case for all MMORPG's.

Disclaimer: All of the following opinions are my own, and may or may not be true.

Players (believe or not) can think and improvise, but the NPCs will always do the same thing. (For an example gain double damage buff when they reach 50% health). In PvP there is always the whole mind game universe, which PvE will never have. In addition, you get to disturb other players (the NPCs are there for the sole purpose of being killed, but players may have something else in mind), which some twisted beings may find rewarding.

To answer your question ("When did PvE become a wuss mode?"): It has always been.

But shifting from a PvE guild to PvP... I'd expect over half of the guild to abandon it for such an atrocity.

You have nothing to feel bad about. People who camp like that are asshats and are one of the reasons why I generally have a hatred for online multiplayer.

I've been the victim of having my entire guild in an online game griefed to the point where the guild broke up.

I hate PvP with a passion.
