I'm short sighted, got glasses at around 14. I only use them to read things far away, as for the rest I don't use them. Not even for movies and whatnot that aren't text-based.

As I get older my focus should shift further, giving me normal vision. I hope.

I first got glasses the summer before I went into the 5th grade, so around the time I turned 10. Over time I eventually got nearsighted to the point that I couldn't see much of anything more than a foot away from my eyes.

I had LASIK surgery done at the end of 2009, when I was 23, so I don't need glasses anymore. My eyesight is good enough now that I don't need any corrective lenses!

Got my first pair way back in first grade because I was getting headaches from reading. Then it stopped happening so I stopped wearing them. Had to get them again a year or two ago though to keep my medical for my job.

I had my glasses when I was at the age of ten I believe. But I only put them on when I really need them, like when my teachers are writing stuff on the white board or watching movies. I realized that if I stare at trees for a long while, my vision becomes clearer but as soon as I can read the first few words on the board, it turns to shit again.

I got my first pair after my fourth traffic accident (as a pedestrian or cyclist) in a single year.
I probably needed them at least two years before that.

I've been wearing glasses for about 10 years now and have twice had to get a new prescription, and probably need to get my eyes tested again soon.

In elementary school (don't exactly remember when) but I'm 21 right now so I've been wearing glasses forever.

I don't have glasses yet, I've lasted pretty long. but i know i'll need glasses eventually:
All my siblings need glasses.
My parents need glasses.
All of my dad's siblings need glasses.
All of my mom's siblings need glasses.
And my grandparent's need glasses.
Everybody but me.
And who am I too assume that I'll be any different?

Got them when I was 13 - after a while you get used to wearing them. I've been wearing them off and on 6 years, but for the past 5 years I wear them constantly because I'm sick of seeing the world with a slight blur.

I got my glasses when I was around 16. In school I had trouble reading one teachers writings on the board but her wrtitng was really tiny and I sat in the back but my classmates next to me were quite annoyed that I always wrote off of them. When I was in the cinema and couldn't read the subtitles in that Star Trek movie, I knew I had to get glasses :(
Two years later my eyes got double as bad as before and some years later the same.
Since some years my eyes stayed the same but I always fear that they become worse.

I got mine when I was 10 or 11, a little over 6 years ago, I think. I got contact lenses 4 years ago. I might consider laser eye surgery in a few years.

Got them when was eight (I'm 34 now). Just went to the eye doctor today and found out I need a second pair. That's right, not four eyes, SIX EYES!

DON't BE SILLY: I will NOT be wearing both pairs at the same time, it's just that I need one for regular day to day/ distance stuff and the new pair for reading.

The good news? If these work, it will be the first time in over two years that I will be able to read print on paper without pain and suffering! I can have BOOKS back B)

Wish me luck! I love my iPad and everything, but I miss books, comic books, reading the mail, food label, newspapers, magazines and all other stupid stuff that we read every day and take for granted!
Why don't you go for a pair of varifocals. A lot of new designs are discrete enough to not make you look like an old crony... *shrug*

OT: As soon as my first eye-exam was done (about 4). Both eyes got worse over time (25 now), but when I hit 18, my left eye started to improve. Typically get a new pair of glasses every two to two and a half years. I'm currently wearing my spare pair at the moment, 'cos my latest specs don't transition properly.

It kinda runs in the family, anyway. My entire extended family (white guys... oh no, white guys included, my sister's boyfriend excepted) needs to wear glasses and even if they don't, they wear contacts.

I've been wearing glasses for around eight years.

I would get contacts [a lot of people keep telling me I should, because apparently I look "evil" when I wear glasses], but I am absolutely terrified of them.

I don't have glasses, but I'll probably have to get a pair, seeing how much time I spend in front of screens.

My Mom had to get them in her early twenties, as did most of her sisters, and I recently turned twenty. I'm waiting for the day when I wake up and everything is blurry.

I don't think I could cope with the transition to wearing glasses, I'll probably just get laser eye surgery (which, unfortunately, does not enable you to shoot lasers from your eyes). It's not that I have a problem with glasses, I've just spent two decades of my life with 20/20 vision and I'd like to keep it that way.

I got them when I was 15, I was getting headaches every day at school so Mum decided to get my eyes checked. Turns out my eyes naturally go in the wrong direction when they relax. I only have to wear them while reading or doing computer work, and I can read without them, I just lose my place a lot and get eyestrain quickly.

Got my glasses around 6 or 7 years ago. Then about and year ago I got diagnosed with different sort of glasses: my eyesight had gotten worse and I had developed astigmatism. However, I usually wear contacts, especially on summer because I haven't arsed to get sight-correcting sunglasses.

While I don't wear them just yet, I know that it's inevitable. I'm going short-sighted and I'm probably going to give in to frustration and grudgingly fork out the money for a pair sometime before the end of the year. The only reason I'm putting it off as long as I can is because after hearing how much Mum has had to pay for her glasses, I'm terrified by the cost.
