Nope. 3 years old, and mine is still spinning pretty. Mostly because i install my discs to the hard drive to keep it from spinning. Saves wear and tear.
Dude good idea....can u still play the games without the disks if you install them to your hard drive?.

Ive gone thru 2 xbox360s now and i havnt given up on it but if the one i"m using now decides to commit suicide i"m getting a ps3!

Seeing how I have like 20+ games for my xbox and I will barely get any money for them most likely, I won't give up on it. Not very cost effective if you ask me.

Xbox 360's are like, nice huggable teddy bears. You hug, and hug. Then they wear down and break. But you can always stick it back up. :3

First one died, still under warranty, second one died, paid, died a third time, bought a new one, and also a PS3.

Very annoyed I didn't get a PS3 first, its by far superior machine (not inteded to flame, just my opinion)

These topics are so boring and dumb. Why give up on any console?
I want to see the topic that just says: When did you just get tired of mainstream garbage, give up gaming and go outside?

*sigh*
I own a PS3, 360 and half own a Wii. (My boyfriend and I share the Wii.) I would not give up any of the consoles if they had a problem.
Why? Because I'm a gamer and I love playing games. If my PS3 messed up because of some update (it did), then I would just get it fixed or replace it. I wouldn't say, "stupid piece of garbage, this is why Sony's a terrible company" blah blah.
My 360's broke on me and I just send it in to get fixed. Tadah! Problem solved, no money out of my pocket, I'm happy.
Never had a problem with the Wii. XD

The PS3 has exclusives I like and I will continue to play it, my 360 has exclusives I like and I will continue to play it, my Wii has exclusives I like and I will continue to play it.
Do you see a pattern?
Thank you! I was wondering does anyone see how perverted the logic in this discussion is?

As I was playing Halo 3, I was astounded by how bad it was in comparison to its predecessors, al aspects of it were just terrible, the plot/game-play/online community (multiplayer/etc was just terrible, it made me look at the Xbox360 in a whole new perspective, I came to realize it was no different to the xbox! Granted it has the technology and everything obviously new about it, but it was just a carbon copy to it's predecessor.
"I don't like a certain game/games therefore I shall not use this platform."
I'm not a big live fan - I mostly play games by myself or with friends when they come over to play - so I don't rate the platforms by their live features/community. I understand it may be a big problem for somene who plays online a lot but considering how fuck-much these machines cost I did some damn research before I bought my 360. I love gaming but I don't love it enough to eat bread and water for a month just to buy something I might get tired of right away.
Instead of dumping a console for some fumbled feature or a ghastly game I'd keep it as a nice option and invest on some other platform with its own fuck-ups and little downsides.

Of course occasionally I feel like I could just toss the whole crappy machine out of the window, but abandoning it forever? Never! Besides I've never faced the horrors of the red ring of death. The worst my box seems to be able to do is occasionally freezing thus forcing me to start over (which sure is frustrating enough) and refusing to read some discs (only library's DVDs so far so I'm guessing it's some copyblock issue or something). I've owned my 360 for near two years now. Maybe I'm just lucky. :D

Yeah, umm... So what I'm getting at is why blame the console for some game being bad? There's still plenty of good games left and coming. And how the hell does some individual game sucking donkey balls effect on the quality of other games (supposedly of the same genre 'cause if not then I really don't see any little sense in the argument) and even if one thinks all - say - FPS's are crap on xbox I don't see how the xbox is quilty of it.

Phew! Sorry for the long post.

After two RRoD's (neither of which I paid for) I decided to re-up with Microsoft and grab an Elite. I've been thoroughly satisfied with my purchase, my Live and the games. My only complaint is that there are too many good games coming out and I can't play them all.

I'm on my 4th 360, but I gave up on it as my system of choice 8 months to the day after I got it. It RRoD'd while saving, corrupting my data, and I was told by MS that I couldn't get my gamertag back, which meant that I couldn't get my DLC back. I told them I only had like $30 worth of themes, gamer pics, and arcade games, but they said no credits would be issued unless I faxed them about 10 pages of paperwork regarding my original purchase and exchange, waited for them, then faxed them more info. They can shell out $50 million for exclusive GTA DLC but they can't give an until then loyal customer his $30 OR his online identity/achievements back? I sold the 360 and bought a 60GB PS3 a month after it launched, and re-bought a 360 when Mass Effect came out, then traded up to the RE5 Elite. With great games like Uncharted 1/2, Resistance 1/2, and Metal Gear, I have never regretted my decision for a minute.

I gave microsoft 2 more chances after my first 360 decided to "let go of the disk" in the drive and let it spin round like Sonic the damn hedgehog, shatter my copy of FIFA 08 and crack the lens
and the other 2 were red rings

according to my PS3's gamestation warranty, I gave up on the 360 on the 17th April 2009 at 14:23

lol, thats accuracy for ya
The lesson here is not "Xbox sucks, get a PS3".

It is "Don't buy FIFA, because it is evil and will fuck up your life. Buy Pro Evo instead, and everything will be sunshine and flowers in your life"

Even if it doesn't work and life remains a bit shitty, you'll still have a quality footie game to play ;)

How cute, did you forget that consoles cost money? You complain that threads like this are stupid and then proceed to ask "Why give up on any console?" A question that is in itself stupid since consoles and indeed gaming in general cost money and time. If someone had a car that constantly broke down or otherwise did not satisfy them would it be surprising, if said individual went out and got a different car or started taking the train or bus more? I hate to state the obvious but just because you are happy doesn't mean that other people are. Especially when you consider just ho overwhelmingly bad the overall failure rate for the 360 is.

I'm on my second xbox 360 and I haven't given up yet. I have however pretty much given up on my PS3, I haven't turned it on for more than 5 minutes in about 5 months. I don't even use it as a media centre which is something it does a lot better than my xbox, but I still use my xbox in that way just because I can't be bothered with the PS3.

You could, I don't know, what's that word? Save. I've saved up for my first 360, my second 360(An Elite. I gave, read that, GAVE my brother my first one)and just recently built my gaming PC which would put many others to shame, if you save your money, instead of buying into the next fad(iPod, Blackberry. I have a Zen and a cheap Samsung myself, both paid for by myself again), buying crappy food(such as McDonalds)or generally wasting it then you would have the money. I have enough money to buy a PS3 and a Wii, heck, I have enough to buy my own car, but I don't want to, I don't need to, my 360 and PC keep me happy and everywhere important I have to go is within reach by bus, train or walking(I walk everywhere), may have to buy one once I graduate though to travel places for interviews and the like. My parents have been saving for me since the day I was born and I've been saving the day I got my job, all of 5+ years ago, there's really no excuse, people have no willpower or control over their money anymore.

OT: I've already given my two cents to this thread.

I've had mine since Halo 3's release and still love it even through one RRoD incident.

I did give up on Microsoft's customer service though. After sending in the request I waited almost 3 weeks for them to send me an empty box to ship it back in. Finally I was like screw that and just sent it in myself with a box from my local post office. After that the process was relatively quick and painless but they got it, fixed it, and sent it back in 2 weeks.

A FULL week longer than it took them to send me an empty box...

I've gone through three 360's and still have yet to give up on it.
Must be the free repairs.

In the space of three days my brothers 360 red-ringed while mine spontaneously decided to no longer accept any form of disc. It was my second. Has anyone else reached a point where they have given Microsoft the metaphorical two fingers and given up, if so, what caused it?
Divide the money you originally spent on the console by the estimated number of hours enjoyment you have had out of it? Was it worth it?

If so, do as I did and just buy another one - they are cheaper now anyway. Also you must have a collection of games that you wouldn't be able to play without a 360 and wouldn't get enough for them if you sold them to justify parting with them. With Xbox LIVE and Halo 3 Multiplayer it has been good value for money even though it only lasted 3 years (and got replaced twice during that period under their extended warranty).

The console does a complimentary disc check. So you do need the disc in the console. But its just a piracy check, and it promptly stops spinning. And there's another plus! The console makes less noise!
