What do you feel makes you a permanent resident of the community?
When you stop having the uncertainty lurking within you that you're still the 'new guy'.

For example, I'm now going to boss around a person who has more than double my post count, but makes the critical mistake of being uncertain.

You. RedEyesBlackGamer. Gimme your lunch money. I mean, credit card number. Because credit card numbers are the new lunch money.

When Scde2 takes you to the bed thread

When you are prompted to go to 4chan.

When you get trapped in a sunken Forum Game thread.

When you know to blame Kross...
Two out of Four, getting there...
Don't mean to make you feel bad but I trimmed down the list from about a dozen striked out sentences...

Once they've annoyed the shit out of me on at least three different threads. Or when they break 1K posts.

How did you make 1000 posts since march!!!

OT: Its not so much how long you have been here its how much you understand the community.
Back in the day, people did this WITHOUT usergroups and few forum games.

That being said, even with the smaller community, if in '08 someone were to make 1000 posts in their first month, they'd still be the new guy, but just the talkative one.

Still, the Escapist is just a bit too big for "new guys" these days. I've been active on the forums for years now, and yet I bet most of the people who have visited the Escapist today wouldn't recognize my avatar. Its pretty much just a sea of faces you may or may not have seen before now.

Still, let me introduce yall to Archie. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Archeopterix] Ask Susan, ask NewK, ask Wilson... She's a 100% Escapist vetran. And yet, she only has 77 posts, which is a dramatic jump from her 48 posts last month. >.>
And yes, 2004 is her real join date.

Forum post count mean nooothing.
Well I count myself as one who does recognize!

OT: As a lurker I really wouldn't know, I can say for sure no one here will recognize, has recognized, or really cares to recognize me XD

I wouldn't say it depends solely on one thing I mean if you post a lot that means you just hunt topics and forum games and that can be done in no certain amount of time or effort, and membership duration doesn't show much either because they either be a serious lurker or someone who logs on to the Escapist once a month or longer.

I think badges are your best bet to really declare yourself as experienced.

TL;DR I have no clue consider I'm still pretty much a new guy.

who the hell are you?

I think that's when you're not considered new anymore. When people realize you've been here.

This is what I'm saying as I'm punching in each of the credit card numbers I've collected today...

<youtube=E2t4MBhGAg8>

Hey waaaaait a minute. Apparently the internet is not dumb enough yet to give me real credit card numbers. You sneaky bastards! This is disappointing.

You may have around 20x my post count, but you don't scare me! I went to the basement and came back!

Anyway, enjoy all the fake CC numbers. I threw in mine as well.

In fact, enjoy punching in my CC number... http://upload.wikimedia.org/math/2/6/f/26fd3bc5f07884044be03826022329f6.png

Jedimethis, young Sir/Ma'am, quite the impudence on your part to barge into mine and RedEyesBlackGamer's relationship! Kindly leave the premises!

just out of curiosity who has the highest post count or oldest member?
As far as I know, the oldest member is a hacker that messed with the registration date and the highest post count I've seen is Sassafras.
What about that Vaudevillian Veteran person?
A close second I think. Sassafrass has over 60k, VV has 59k.
Correction, no one has passed 60K yet.

OT: I'd say about 3 months or so. Dunno why, that's when I felt like I was no longer a newbie so that's what I'm going with.

I'd say 1000 posts, if you're just looking at posts (which isn't really that accurate in determining how long they've been here)

Once you?re familiar with the site you?re no longer new, it doesn?t really matter how much other people have seen you interact with it.

I'd base it on how well you know how the forums and community work.

Basically, the one you can't measure. Ain't that grand?

I guess the Mobius-badge can be used as a decent indicator...
Psssst, it's not Mobius, it's Morpheus.

OT: Some people still consider me a new guy, even though I've been here for over a year and have an over 8000 post count. I consider someone who's been here for a year or has a post count of over 800 to not be new.
