Just wondering. I mean, I've done some things here but I'm still considered new.

Discussion value: What do you feel makes you a permanent resident of the community?

How did you make 1000 posts since march!!!

OT: Its not so much how long you have been here its how much you understand the community.

I guess when you have been here for a good couple of months. 6+ maybe though with people posting like crazy and getting super fast counts sometimes that could be different.

I dunno. I suppose being active helps. I'd say once you have about 100 or so posts that actually contribute to topics and debates and such you've proven to be someone who wants to stick around.

Of course then again, some people just like to read other peoples thoughts, only posting when they really feel the need to.

Guess it just depends.

I'd say beyond 100-150 posts is a good estimate for a minimum (some people can be lurkers, so they have 20 posts but the mentality of one of the old gods, but they are the exception). For everyone else, if you have above 100-150 posts, then it all comes down to how you act within the community. There are people I see and go 'New guy', simply because they don't really fit with the community, then look over and see over 1000 posts, and people who say profound or intelligent things and I go "Wow, how have I never seen thi- *looks* oh, he's only got 235 posts? ... Well played".

I have been a member for a while, but I haven't really posted much up until about a few months ago.

its subjective, really...

different people see it in different ways, be it post count, content, or the amount of time on the site (as you can see above)

personally, I use the date of when the person joined (about 6 months I guess), but there are new members which can be confused with the older ones...

EDIT: another good indicator: if you remember Unforgotten Realms, you arent considered new :p

I'd generally go by how long they have been a member for, 3+ months I guess. Some people just constantly post so that could change it a little I guess. Then there are some who hardly post at all but contribute when they see fit. Look at me, 831 posts in over 2 years!

I've been a member here for a year and a half, but I've been a lurker since around summer 2008. I don't think I really count as a new guy, but my post count is still under 500, so maybe I still am.

I guess the MobiusMorpheus-badge can be used as a decent indicator...
Although you can have hung around for years without posting much and still not be a new guy.

Edit: I'm an idiot.

Back in the day, people did this WITHOUT usergroups and few forum games.

That being said, even with the smaller community, if in '08 someone were to make 1000 posts in their first month, they'd still be the new guy, but just the talkative one.

Still, the Escapist is just a bit too big for "new guys" these days. I've been active on the forums for years now, and yet I bet most of the people who have visited the Escapist today wouldn't recognize my avatar. Its pretty much just a sea of faces you may or may not have seen before now.

Still, let me introduce yall to Archie. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Archeopterix] Ask Susan, ask NewK, ask Wilson... She's a 100% Escapist vetran. And yet, she only has 77 posts, which is a dramatic jump from her 48 posts last month. >.>
And yes, 2004 is her real join date.

Forum post count mean nooothing.

It depends on the person. They need to contribute to topics and learn the ins and out of the community. Sheer number of posts don't really factor into it, knowing the community does, at least in my opinion.
