Optimum leveling in a TES game. For a bit I kept getting obsessed with getting all +5's without wasting skill points, but then I realized it ruins the game, and unlike everyone else apparently, I do fine as I am without squeexing out every stat point I can.
Indeed. I was watching Overthegun's stream of Oblivion, and he (through Claire) starts to obsess over optimum leveling. I was almost screaming "It's not worth it or necessary!".

Me personally, the beginning child segment in Ocarina of Time. Seriously, I just cannot STAND that entire segment. I like the game as a whole, but it's just such a pathetic way to start the game with hours of what feels like tedious dungeons.
One of the reasons why MM was better IMO.

And that's lovely, -except- you need both Diablos AND the Ragnarok to do it. I was talking about early game power junctioning, like start game - skip dialogue - walk out and fight baddies. By the time I had the Ragnarok, I didn't need to draw anything from heaven or hell, I was swatting dragons like flies.
I hardly needed any tough junctions prior to Lunatic Pandora though, most of the game before that is about 'smart' junctions rather than intensive ones. Though if you need an initial boost there's a 'shell' (I think, it's been a while) draw point in the train tunnel. I never did see the point of power levelling in that game, enemies level with you so I never bothered, but if you want to then the training centre has some good opportunities once you can ST-ATK J something like blind or sleep. Same with the forests around town.

I miss that game...
Yes, the enemies leveled with you, but they didn't reflect your junctioning. That was the thing that people loved or hated about the game; Using the junction system properly you could be REDICULAMONSTROSANTUANLY strong early on. It took a lot of the challenge out of the random encounters. But I liked being able to beat the snot out of...just about everything.

MW2 on Veteran. The ammount of jelly on the screen and the grenades falling off trees make for one infurating experience.

I wouldn't call Demon's Souls a chore. It's hard, and you know what you're getting into when you buy the game.

"Alright, we need you to collect 600 random pieces of crap hidden all over the game world."
"Will you at least tell me in what general area they're in?"
"No."
"Why not?!"
"Just do it, son!"

*3 hours later*
"Ok, I found 3 of them. How many left?"
"597. Oh, and did I mention there are 3 different types of pieces? So, that would make it 1800 in all, so you need to find the other 1797 pieces. Good luck."

*rage quit*

Yea...that.
Dare I ask what nightmare of a game has 1800 collectables?

OT: At the risk of not only beating a dead horse, but killing it and feeding it through a wood chipper, I'm going to say Everquest.
A typical session goes something like this:
1.Find a group of monster that don't summon, aren't too tough, are around your level and don't have the ability to cast spells.
2. Cast a speed enchancement spell on yourself, or drink a speed enhancement potion
3.cast speed reduction spells on the monsters
4. Run around the monsters, while casting area of effect damage spells until the monsters die.
5.Sit down to regain health and mana.
6. Repeat twenty billion times until you are at max level.

And if you want to raid with a guild, it gets even worse. Most high end dungeons are locked, and to enter them you have to farm keys. Typically, every member of the raid party has to have a key, and to get the keys, you usually have to spend days or weeks killing the same monsters over and over and over again. I recall that as early as the third expansion, there were dungeons that you have to farm dozens of times, doing the same thing over and over and over again.
The worst part is that I wasted something like five years doing little else. I have no idea how I put up with the tedium for that long.

I've noticed this in a few of your posts... what the hell is this!? (Edit - ok, apparently it's not showing up anymore - what was the egg thing!?)

On topic: Final Fantasy X-2. I kept saying to myself "it must get better" so forced myself through it, very disappointed with this.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII on hard. It's a chore, but a fun chore which is a kind of oxymoron. It's long, laborious and repetitive but I loved doing practically the same thing over and over (the optional missions) again to get the better items.

Must be a better example... The beginning stages of any GTA game in which it presumes no prior knowledge of previous games so it teaches you the basic controls of EVERYTHING despite myself using these techniques to make the earlier tutorials easier.
Honestly, I don't know. I just saw it on a guys post, clicked on it, and decided to get my own.

I just clicked on your egg. It seems as though your egg died today.

My condolences :(
It's just an egg :3
I know, im just joking around :D

What about MMORPGs?
Grind. Nuff said.
You clearly don't play the right MMORPGs XD
Well, is there an MMORPG when repetition doesnt happen after a certain point and all you do is repeat the same process in hopes of getting better gear/reputation/level? I do believe that mmorpg's become the biggest chores after a certain point. Good example is raids in WoW, from what I hear (steam friends that go on 24-52 hour sessions on WoW), all the game becomes is raid after raid for more gear.

Perfecting items in Disgaea 2... God, I love the game, even with the massive grind, but perfecting items is the worst thing in the entire game. 4-16 hours for one item? Dood....
I was thoroughly worn out by the first Disgaea, grinding to max and having an unstoppable party. Im just not up for another one, though it is an AWESOME game. (Just dont have the time)

For me, it has got to be farming minerals on ME2. Oh I've been playing quite alot of exciting games :)

ME2 on insanity. Actually, it's head banging on wall annoying.
Like Mass Effect, it wasn't harder it just took longer to do, well just about everything. I eventually gave up on that nonsense. If I was playing it on the 360 I might have considered sticking with it for the achievement if nothing else. The low level cap ensured I reached the end game before the credits rolled, there was no achievement and the game had quite simply become annoying to play.

That's generally how I play games - if they stay consistantly annoying, I move on to something else.

MMO's; I used to play them but they rapidly became chores. Also, playing on insane difficulty settings is a chore.

It's called Drift City, and it's an online racing MMORPG. Look it up, it's awesome.

Eh, ME1's insanity was a breeze. I don't think I ever died and I never used any of my powers. ME2's insanity wasn't bad until the damn platforms. I stopped after 3 tries because it was becoming more and more like a chore.

You won't need that here, friend.

Just recently, the part in F.E.A.R. where you face 2 REVE bots at the same time, made me feel like I was at the thick end of a "Fuck-ya-up" conveyor. Kind of like being punched in the gut, and then the balls to take your mind off of your gut.

Ill correct my statement, MOST MMO's get repetitive. Then again... a racing mmo isnt my thing. Right now Im sticking to multiplayers (TF2 doesnt get repetitive for quite a while on a ranked server).

R:TW campaign. Once my Roman Empire got so big that is was 90% management and 10% fighting, it felt like a second job I wasn't getting paid for.

Don't you just love the grind sandwich that every RPG gives you?

So damn Delicious and the back tracking mmm tasty!

And I just love it when I have to find something or someone but I never can because I don't know where they are and the game never did tell directly so I have to read every journal entry I have to find out what I have to do.

I can feel my fist in a wall just thinking about it.

Ranked server?
Am I missing something here, because I didn't know there were ranked servers...
