we have all heard the stories that games are too agressieve and that children will be turned in to rapist. we've all heard the and we all think that they are fake and not true, but what i asked myself: when do we gamers, think that a game goes to far? has it to the with the violence, swearing or something else? what do you think? when would you say, that once a game crossed a magical line, that its not worth defending anymore.

discuss.

There is a line to cross? I haven't encountered it yet. Games can do whatever they want. If I don't like it, I don't play it. I don't think there is a line, myself.

They've gone too far when you stretch them out LIKE THIS

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

C WUT I DID THAR?!

They haven't gone too far, and I doubt they'll go too far. Unless they show gratuitous scenes of Rape. I'm just not down for that in any form of media/entertainment.

nice spelling buddy.

anyway, i dont think a game will truly cross the line and still come out. publishers want to make money, and if a certain product is not popular at all they will not back it.

And we have a first reply /thread. Censorship is bad, mmkay?

For a more thorough explanation, as long as it's fictional, there's nothing a videogame can do that would be worthy of censorship. As the quoted poster put it, if you don't like it, don't buy it. The one way a videogame could cross the line is if something ridiculous happened, like the game's FMVs being an actual snuff film that was shot just for the game. But that's not going to happen in the real world, and if it did happen, it would be illegal because someone actually had to commit murder to make it, not because it was overly violent, or because the game had footage of someone dying. As an example of someone dying for real on screen and it not going too far, a cold war era game could legitimately include footage of the Kennedy assassination, or even combat footage from Vietnam. It might bump the rating up a little bit, but it wouldn't justify any sort of censorship.

Well there have been a lot of games that have stirred up controversy but now games can get away with nearly everything. They pretty much have the same rights as movies and books now for forbidden content. Well everywhere but Australia.

When grammar bad you have. (Sorry had to do it.)

I think there's only been one or two games that have gone too far. (Manhunt)

But I'm personally turned off to a game when it's about nothing but violence and has no intellectual, artistic or comedic value to it such as the upcoming Bulletstorm.

(Seriously would anyone have even known this game was coming out if Fox hadn't made a fuss about it?)

anything to do with rape and violence against children. I think there the only two subjects that would really cross the line for most gamers

yeah don't hate me for the spelling. -.-'
i also think that games never crossed the 'line', but i think that there is a line. ofcourse there is a difference between peoples with opionons and such. for me personaly it would be something like that a game is saying that you must hate minorities or must act violent. ofcourse saying simelair subjects in games isn't a problem, but saying that its good and you have to do it. is a step too far.
now some of you will thinking: will that ever happen? probably not. its weird to think that a publisher would ever support something like that. but yeah, that is my 'line'.

When you can't find ten movies and 50 books (all praised as pushing boundaries) that didn't do exactly what the game did, except harder and for longer.

There is a point when violence and adult subject matter is just pushed to juvenile/retarded extremes... I'm looking at YOU Madworld.

which is why i have it in the first place. it says so many things
Does it say that you don't need capital letters?

OT. I don't have a line, I'm not that kind of baby. A game could show small kiddies being taken into Gary Glitters house and I wouldn't bat an eyelid, it's just pixels and these people need to get over that.

I haven't played Manhunt but I imagine it could have some strong statements about what it means to murder. How horrifying a situation it would be. I find the premise of the game (one character being forced to commit such atrocities solely for another's pleasure) to be incredibly interesting, especially considering the connotations it could be making about the player themselves.
