I guarantee you 99% of the people that saw that ad don't even know what a beta is. It's when you test a game for bugs and issues, it's NOT a final product.

They maybe milking it but they do it the right way. Hype only goes as far as you take it. I've loved Halo ever since I first played on Christmas morning in 2001, before I even knew about the xbox (somehow). I love Halo for what it is, not how others make it.

I've been in plenty of betas, I don't need to take your word for it. But I've been in betas that were basiclly retail code, just load testing (which this probably is) and betas that were effectively late alphas. I've bee in betas that sold me products, and betas that have put me off them completely.

I virtually guarantee you that the whole point of this is to load-test the servers and polish off the final balance tweaks - there's no way bungie or microsoft would let a beta sink their product. This beta is probably near release-ready.

I would imagine the ad was for Gamestop or something. It's to sell ODST and Halo: Reach. Plus Bungie wants as many people on the Beta as possible to test everything. Is it for hype? Yes, of course. But there's more to it then that.
