I don't remember a lot from when I joined, but I do remember a shitload of VS. threads. Simple polls with "Which do you like better?". I remember Prototype vs. Infamous threads a lot, but whether that was when I joined or not, I don't recall.

It's not quite the same thing, but this place wasn't always packed full of moralfags eager to throw themselves on every sword someone draws.

The hot thread was "Is it easier for girls to get laid than it is for guys?"

Half of the people in the thread were like "are you trolling? Of course it's easier!", about a quarter were retards who tried to mathematically prove that males got laid just as often as females without realizing that this fact was totally irrelevant in a discussion about how easily they could do so (translation: they failed to take into account that males were putting 100x more effort into it than females to achieve the same success rates), and maybe another quarter were girls complaining that it was too hard for them to find a guy who met their expectations while insisting that they didn't have unrealistic expectations.

Then it was all Batman and American gun laws, with a vast number of retards pointing out that strict gun laws reduce the use of guns in violent crime, and only a few voices of reason pointing out that stricter gun laws produce higher violent crime rates in general, which is the statistic that we should actually be looking at.

Internet is full of retards.

It gets somewhat grating after a while, eh?

OT: Oh, there were lots of 'your avatar'/'the avatar above you' threads, as well as other general forum games that often broke into the hot topics box.

I think I joined during a relatively peaceful period. There weren't any trends I could see that were like the ME3 ending controversy, feminism, etc.

There were those things (aside from ME3, obviously) but they mixed it up a bit.

Edit: Nope, wait. It was zombie threads.

When I first joined the Escapist I didn't really pay much attention to the forums part of the site and focused mainly on watching videos such as Zero Punctuation and Game Dogs and commenting in their respective threads. But when I started taking more interest in the forums (around end of Feb/beginning of March in 2011) there were ponies. Pony threads everywhere. And "WT(insert expletive here)/What is with all the pony threads all of a sudden?" threads. There must have been a new one appearing every three hours for the whole of March... (*goes off the deep end*)
