When I first came onto this board the topic of the week was whether lolicons were paedophiles...

I can't remember too well, but I think it was "what would you do if you turned into a girl/guy" threads. They were freaking everywhere, constantly, all the time a while back. :D

Fuck me, my first post was on a news post about Episode 3 and Valve experimenting with sign-language; I imagine there might have sparked off a topic trend.

Sigh, I seemed so innocent back then. Now look at me: hung like a horse and forever on the edge of being banished.
Wait, weren't you banned a month or two back? How the hell did you come back?

When I first came one the threads the main debate was casuals vs. hardcores, also every game was a God of War clone.

I remember too many zombie Apocalypse threads.

Like, WAAAAAAY too many.

It got a bit out of hand.
You think it got out of hand recently? You should have seen it a few years ago. the hot topic board only had zombie threads when I first joined.

At first I visited the site just for Zero Punctuation, and when I finally joined up, it was for some random quiz. No idea what was happening in the forums back then.

I do remember what the hot topic was when I started posting though: bronies and jiggle physics. Also, stuff drowning. Crazy times those were!

The hot thread was "Is it easier for girls to get laid than it is for guys?"

Half of the people in the thread were like "are you trolling? Of course it's easier!", about a quarter were retards who tried to mathematically prove that males got laid just as often as females without realizing that this fact was totally irrelevant in a discussion about how easily they could do so (translation: they failed to take into account that males were putting 100x more effort into it than females to achieve the same success rates), and maybe another quarter were girls complaining that it was too hard for them to find a guy who met their expectations while insisting that they didn't have unrealistic expectations.

Then it was all Batman and American gun laws, with a vast number of retards pointing out that strict gun laws reduce the use of guns in violent crime, and only a few voices of reason pointing out that stricter gun laws produce higher violent crime rates in general, which is the statistic that we should actually be looking at.

Internet is full of retards.
Is that higher violent crime rates just a US phenomenon? I could have sworn there were a lot of places where guns are difficult to get and crime rates aren't bad. Whereas in the US you can get and keep a gun easier than you can get and keep a car (depending on where you live).

Not doubting you, I'm just not finding any reputable sources on Google.

Feminism vs. Sexism.

I joined about 2 months ago, and it's still just barely dying down.

Back when I joined, the major discussions were the L4D2 demo that just came out and the fall of Infinity Ward, judging by my posts.

I can't even remember at this point. I rarely post in the "hot topic" threads unless I find them really interesting. Does anyone remember what was big on the 19th of June, 2010?

So long ago. Basically the following topics as I recall:

Portal, Team Fortress 2, Half Life 2: Episode 2. Recognise a pattern?

I would like to go in the wayback machine and see.

EDIT: Ok I went in the <url=http://archive.org/web/web.php>wayback machine to the day I came onboard the Escapist (or as close as I could get). It was awesome. First off there were no hot threads as the Off topic forum had 62 threads, and 1054 posts in total for the ENTIRE OFF TOPIC SECTION! Compared with 4,573,298 posts as of writing.

There was a thread called "Zune to beat iPod", and one of the most viewed topics was about where you ate your favourite cheese fries. The OP of which was then Associate Editor, and later Editor in Chief, Russ Pitts.

It was a simpler time.

What can I say? I suck a mean dick. As for how I came back, the mods agreed that there was a degree of dissonance between what I said and what it was taken to imply, so they gave me a 2-month suspension (I had technically been banned twice before that, which is why it was so long).

When I joined, the thread I first posted in was about the lack of anime on Adult Swim and why doesn't the UK get Adult Swim. I think there were a lot of anime threads back in the summer of 2010.

Even before I joined I saw a lot of threads where people proclaimed their superiority over Yahtzee because he didn't like game X.

Errr... I remember lots of drama, and lots of people pretending to be all angsty and claiming to be nihilists because there was this jackass called MaxTheReaper that everyone was trying to copy. As for actual topics... I remember lots of Halo hating. Jesus, that makes me feel old.

Things were pretty tame IIRC, mostly the forum was relationship advice and other agony aunt bollocks.

Drama...drama never changes...

I... I can't remember... D:

I feel old now!

The first trend I remember was "All the religious people are dumb". We have since made a Religion and Politics subforum that I avoid.

What the hell are lolicons?

OT: I think I really got into posting around the time of the ME3 ending controversy.
