Same reason you see "OMG not enough women in IT what a sexist discipline!" pretty regularly but no one gives a shit if there's not many men in nursing.

You raise a good point. You see, in modern times of "HARDKORE GAMERZ", everyone who likes something less violent than Gears of War is considered "GAY" by said "HARDKORE" audience. They could do an article on peer pressure if nothing else.

Men are not obliged to drip with testosterone 24/7, you know.
I was called gay for playing kirby on my DS T.T I love kirby and everyone knows he is more vicious of a killing machine than anyone in any given FPS

Why guys feel they need to hide there like or certain games from other guys? The effects of peer pressure in gaming circles. How us normal guys feel about having only two representations of masculinity in video games, the hyper masculine, full testosterone muscle clad balls of rage, or the completely emotionless, non interactive blank slate.

How we feel about being portrayed as one dimensional psychopathic killing machines who exist to maim, fuck and then kill some more?
I'm pretty sure there's articles about that stuff strewn through the back issues. And, hey, check it out: this week is pretty male-centric if you discount the "riot grrl" article. I mean, there's a whole article about how guys feel about vaginas -- it's unflattering but, well, guy-centric. And this week's video review is about what it was like to be a young guy in the pre-Internet-porn wasteland of 1981.

Now, I hardly think it's all worthwhile stuff. An inherent problem of the magazine format is that it's easier to write a fire-and-forget manifesto or a half-researched summary article than to really dig into a topic, and the shifting pool of contributors means you're going to see some really redundant articles over time, too.

But I do think the content would be better if the audience didn't turn into such crybabies any time gender or race or whatever came up at all.

Most games these days are aimed at the same market that the classic Schwarzegger movies of the 80's, Predator, Commando and The Running Man et al were aimed at the male teen crowd. And, like games today, featured the muscled, macho hero type.
It can't be an accident that as gaming has taken hold of the male psyche that these types of movies are less prevalent than they were. Why watch these characters when you can be these characters?
Although it does seem funny that gaming started taking the piss out of these movie types with Serious Sam and Duke Nukem and is now very straight faced about it, to the point of having no sense of humour at all.
Populist cinema seems to be more interested in the hormonal / menopausal female with crap like Twilight and Mamma Mia being the big hitters.

This reminds me of the masculism thread we had on here way back when. Honestly for this not to be sarcasm is just ridiculous.

What about us poor white gamers and how we are portrayed and treated in online games. I demand justice.
And yeah, this pretty much covers it.

As a young, white male, it seems I have no valid opinion anywhere and, according to the media, I only want to get drunk and have sex, and perhaps punch someone on the way home. That is wrong. You make some good points, and objectification goes both ways.

Guys take it easy, enjoy your games and who gives a shit what people think. If you are genuinely too ashamed to admit liking a non-masculine game essentially anonymously to a bunch of dicks you're never going to meet, or even to your real friends, you need to sort some shit out, not the gaming community.

If this is that serious an issue for you, you've either got a pretty bad relationship with your friends, care way too much what other people think, are cripplingly homophobic, or hey maybe you're actually gay, just throwing it out there

Every other issue focuses on male issues. Just because it's not clearly stated doesn't mean it's not there. Would you demand a 'straight' issue if they did one focusing on 'gay' gamers?

I love it when white, middle class men complain because there isn't something special for them. *rolls eyes*

Equally if any discussion of gender/race identity wasn't blamed on "middle-class white men thinking they have a hard time."

If we keep naming specific groups as "able/unable to talk about these sort of things", we're just reinforcing the lines that divides us. If we're more and more open to cultural differences, shouldn't we also be open to cultural differences within our own demographic?

I am reminded of every child who ever moaned to his/her parents ''If there is a mother's day and a father's day, why isn't there a childrens day?''
The correct response to this is (and always has been) ''Every day is childrens day, child!''
Now, would you like some cheese with that 'whine'?
Games and game marketing, websites, forums, magazines et al, is largely aimed at men. FACT! You don't see this cos in your world the occasional 'female related article', is noticeable. It is noticeable because, btw, it is against the norm, uncommon, unusual. There isn't even one thread per day aimed solely at female gamers, take a chill pill and stop looking for things to be p*ssed about! :)
