Maybe females don' make up a majority of players but they are out there. Every no sale of a game relects on the bottom line and I am a no sale on most current games.

Why don't they realize that most women don't want to play as male characters? I mean just switch it around, how many male players would enjoy games if most of the ones available had women as the main character?

Why is it a problem for them to develop games where gender option is allowed?

I, for one, don't purchase games that only allow a male character. I can't even role play a character like this. It's just not fun.

Usually these characters have a romantic interest. Of course the romantic interest is female.
C'mon, maybe some female players can go for this but not this player.

Maybe someone here can help me understand why gender option on MOST games, is not allowed.
Ok im sorry to be one to say this, but outside of WoW i just dont enjoy playing female characters as much as male, i approve of there being the option like in the more recent pokemon games, but if female was the only option it would be a huge deterent for me buying it,
But on that point there will always be games like Halo where the main character is set in concrete as the master chief is, not every game can go, hello uve been here for 30 years now, by the way, what gender are you again? which also comes back to the story telling element of the game in a rather large way. Never the less, roleplaying games should ALWAYS have this option.

My girlfriends favorite game is Borderlands and her favorite character is the gigantic musclebound "Brick".

I for one think the OP has some personal issues.

I find the "Sexy and empowered" females in games even more annoying than the males - Simply because they are not created for women to identify with, but for men to stare at their butts (Bayonetta anyone?).

A good character is a good character. Movies, games, books or comics. Gender matters not.
