Well it depends what direction the next nintendo console would take. Who knows they might go full motion sensor suit or something.. lots of possibilities for mario there.

But since nintendo are really liking multiplayer games at the moment it wouldnt suprise me if we see a mario and luigi game or something. or better yet mario and sonic gasp!

Im sure their crazy japanese minds will think of something entertaining

As long as we're talking beating franchises into the ground, how about Mario and Sonic in the Mushroom Kingdom? Bonus points for finding an excuse for Olympic-style minigames (and people wonder why I don't own a Wii!)
Suppose I'd be alone for thinking that'd be pretty cool. Well, except for the mini-games part. Honestly, I'm not much of a Mario fan, but taking two platforming rivals from the day of the SNES and Genesis and putting them together in an actual platformer. Bonus points for a co-op mode where one player plays as Mario and the other as Sonic. In single player you'd switch between the two and could revisit previous levels because you might need Sonic's speed/spindash to get to some areas and Mario's jumping power to get to other's.

If its done well I might actually be tempted to play such a game...

its the best mario game that i can remember playing, and i think they should stop there. as yahtzee said, they should always stop after they do something cool so they can be remembered well. that and nintendo should really start making new stuff.

Under water or in my opinion, straight to hell where this series' now belongs for being abused and used as a cash machine.

All of the Mario games*, as of late, have been really gimmicky, what they should do is go back to basics.

*maybe not New Super Mario Bros.

Well. . .Maybe instead of focusing on Mario all the time. They could trying making Bowser the main character and do some stuff with him? He leads a horde of bad guys at his beck and call and rules over the bad lands. Can't he have some other enemies besides Mario or something?

Yeah, something like that. If Princess Peach can have her own lame game, why can't Bowser have something?

I've always wondered where the damn koopa kids came from?

Prolly do a life sim. Mario gets Peach pregnant and they have a kid. The game will involve collecting coins to buy a house, good, etc. The kid will eventually grow up, make fun of your pathetic inability to talk, and start dating one of Bowser's kids.

The last level will be catching your kid hooking up with Bowser's brat, the moral decision is to choose between saying "Hell yeah, my kid is a badass" or "Nooooooo!!!!"

Mario games are still good but really, Nintendo neeeds to try something else. Anything else. Well, maybe not a JRPG, but nearly anything else.

I know about the first one (the one for the SNES they refused to export to Europe), are the rest the paper Mario series?

Yes, and then there is the one on the GBA (Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga) and its sequel on the DS (Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time). And you know that they've released Super Mario RPG in Europe now through WiiWare?
