Where did all the older Escapist users go?

I came here for ZP, signed up out of boredom, and got sucked into the forums.
While I have not posted anywhere near my first year's rate, I'm still around. Just not lately.
A mix of games and not having anything really worth saying in threads has kept me from posting for a while.

But a lot of older users either left of their own volition or got banned.
I haven't seen Ultrajoe, Labby, or a bunch of old guard in a long time.
But I'm sure they're both around.
Somewhere.
I refuse to let my guard down.

Wasn't demented teddy a complete prick? I remember someone here being all try-hard broody and "waaah everyone around me is stupid except me".

Might be confusing him with someone else.

If I remember correctly, Furb left after Teddy got banned, and Hub followed suit.

Yeah, then they returned for a bit before being perma-banned.
Furb got perma-banned for calling Spinwhiz a **** and Hub got banned for advertising a blog post called ShittyWoman, I think.

I have no idea why I know this.

I have only 5000 or so, and I've been here for a couple years.

I've been with The Escapist since 2005...but I only have 900 posts. I'm just not that active in the forums...Heck I didn't even sign up for the forums until 2008.

Ok, so you've been here since 2008. When we talk about "the old users", we mean people who have been signed up in the forums a long time ago, not just browsing the escapist.

But you are correct, post count isn't necessarily accurate. On the other hand, I know I post relatively often, and if this guy has twice my post count, he's probably been here longer than I have.

Well post is quite a bad measure given that due to forum groups and forum games post counts have shot up. Back with Furburt and Hublib they got 10k post by doing that a lot and being active, Max got its post count by literally posting in everything. I've been here a fair bit longer than you yet we have more or less the same post count.

Back then though people thought 1k was a big thing, then it was 5k, then everyone had to hit 10k thankfully no one seems to give a cursing flying Gordon Ramsay any more about post count.

The threads here have, well, stagnated.

I come here all the time, but rarely do I see a topic worth discussing (on a personal level, mind). Part of it is also because people stopped reading the reviews I was putting so much effort into.

Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to have a reason to run around on the threads again, but there just doesn't seem to be one.

I've been around here since about 2009, didn't make an account until 2010.

They also give new titles because of post count and now how long you've been on or anything like how many times you've been bold.

The title thing has been around for a long time.
The Pub Club titles haven't, but the changing has.

I know they give titles, it's like a little reward, but the only thing that effects it is your post count.I just meant new as in, a new title for x.

The way I see it, either the banhammer wipe most of them out or they had simple got bored with the forum (or may revert back to as lurkers). It kind of make sense in that the longer you had been with the site the more vulnerable you are to getting a banned (since you would have gotten relax that long your tongue slip to acting plain rude or a negative manner for the warmings to appear).

Also I know that one or two members had passed away in real life which we could be unaware of (before you ask how I know who had passed away, there had been a memorial thread).

There is one member I know who seen to had simple "dissapear".

Because you asked about the older Escapists, implying that you yourself were one ... you're like 15 though. But then I realized you meant older as in the people who joined a while ago.

also i wondered this about 2 years ago as well. Most of the OG oldies, who's name i have forgotten, have been banned i believe. And by OG oldies i mean getting to 2k+ before it was cool.

Most of them have been banned, the ones that haven't tend to stick to forum games or user groups.

Pretty much this. The only really prolific users who have been around for more than 2 years or so (and who still posts actively on the forums) as far as I can tell are Sassafrass and Neonbob...
A fair few of the prolific users who were big when I started posting a lot left when Demented Teddy got banned, though.

Nah, the oldguard has all but upped and left by now. There's like, two of us on IRC, me and Nuke. The rest pop in from time to time, but other than that they've moved on. Speaking of which, you should get on IRC more.

As for the OP, howdy. I for one spend all my time on IRC rather than the forums, personally. As for where everyone else went, it's already been covered. They moved on, packed up and shipped out, hit the ol' dusty trails. S'what happens. Time passes, people move along. Such is life \o/.

Most old users have either left or only lurk. The ones that don't tend to be in User Reviews, Forum Games, or the User Groups. I hardly ever see a 2007, the only one I can think of from the top of my head is Manaman.

Lurking since 2008, officially joined in 2009. My first forum membership and the only one I frequently come to visit.

(Yes I consider myself to be an older member I just don't post terribly often so I'm not recognised by any other users)
