"Why are you such a jerk?"

Maybe I wouldn't be such a jerk if the general population had a basic level of general culture, until then I'm allowed to be a massive dick to everyone around me.

Maybe if you came up with a good answer, people would stop asking it. "a lot of things have happened in my life that I know God is there for me" is ReligiousCopoutArgument0751, it doesn't really explain why you believe in god at all.

And no, IRL I never ask people it. Can't be bothered with the following argument.
Why do you make it your goal in life to question people's beliefs? Do you like stirring up argument? Does it bring you joy to get people mad over whether they're a theist or an atheist or not? Am I a different person, an enemy, just because I believe in God and you don't? Please, answer me that. And don't give me some AthiestCopoutArguement0217, "I want to prove to people over the internet that their belief is wrong because it gives me a huge e-peen."

As I responded to another person,
They must know what happened, when either it's none of their business, or they just wouldn't care. I'm trying to say that the answer doesn't matter to them, the question "Why do you believe in God?" usually translates to, "You're a fucking idiot" and I'm getting tired of it.
I have felt the strength of God. I spend a week praying occasionally each day, I get a week of strength. If I don't, like if I say in my head that I can handle it without God, then it's like I've lost all of that strength, and I become sluggish. When I say THAT, people respond with "Placebo" but I just know it's not. I've done things that I just normally couldn't do.
That's pretty much it. I doubt you'd like to hear my heartfelt stories where faith healed, because to most Atheists, it just bores them.

"If English is the languege used in England, then why do we speak it? Shouldn't we speak Americanish?" This is more stupid than you think considering the person who asked it lives in Canada. Edit: That and a person once said to me "Why do you hate God?" with the only reason they asked me that being because I used the word hell; also I don't even belive in God so how could I hate something I don't believe exists?

Stupid =/= repetitive, and neither does it vice versa.
Well, when it's the same people, like the same person every week asking that, it sort of blurs the lines for me. But I get what you are saying.
The short version as well isn't enough for some people as well. They must know what happened, when either it's none of their business, or they just wouldn't care. I'm trying to say that the answer doesn't matter to them, the question "Why do you believe in God?" usually translates to, "You're a fucking idiot" and I'm getting tired of it.
Fair enough.

While I don't share your views on the existence of a deity, I also live in South Texas and am the only atheist in my school - at least, the only atheist publically. Because of that, I've learned better than to try to convince people.

Faith is a very powerful thing. The question to most atheists is whether that faith is based on a real being. Not that I'm trying to start an argument, you understand.

I understand. I think I was a bit snippy, and I apologize. You of course just want to understand, and this is a place to do that freely.

A girl in my friend's class once asked "So, is this now or in the past?".
It's funnier if you know that it was after a 50 minute lecture about the French Revolution during history class.
Hmmm.... That question could be philosophical (if taken out of context).
Indeed. This just about the only context where it isn't philosophical.
So sad...
This girl walks the fine line between great thinker and evolutionary dead end. Also, if she takes french class tell her yes.

Well, I was asked once by an American girl why we have so many different languages here in Europe; apparently she couldn't wrap her head around the concept of the European countries not being states of a unified nation like the USA.
So, being a German and utterly dumbfounded by this question I eventually made the poor decision of employing wit in my answer and said, "Well, you see, that's because we lost the war back in the 40s."
And boy oh boy, did I get an answer to that one... I quote: "Oh, I'm sorry for you!"

Stupid Question:Why do you read so much?
Answer: so I don't have to listen to your whiney, bitchy little voice or your problems.
SQ:Why do I get the feeling that you're trying to ignore me?
A:Why do I get the feeling that you aren't going to leave anytime soon?

and so many others during the day. I swear, I may actually snap the next person's neck who asks me what the homework is, even though they sit at the goddamn front of the room, but cant focus the two remaining braincells that haven't been fried by hanging out with stupid preps and jocks on anything except talking about whatever the hell preppy asswipes talk about.

*exhales, inhales, exhales* ok, I feel better now.

It's just something I'm positive of. Doing things with prayer vs doing things without it have dramatic differences for me.
