I buy my games from a store named Game. They match price with cheaper game stores and they have really cool unique pre order deals. Plus a rewards card. Every $500 you spend you get quite a big discount on your next game.
If you live in Australia, as your username suggests, you really shouldn't shop anywhere but online. You'll get fleeced everywhere else really.

So yeah, that's what I do now, except for the occasional important limited edition pre-order that I wouldn't want to risk acquiring via the internets. Oh, and I have a Steam account now, so I guess I buy some games through that way.
If i buy online it doesnt come on release day. Im a reviewer i need them ASAP

Steam.

Cheap and easy, and the fact that you can pre-order hours before a game is unlocked means you can read all the reviews to see whether you do want to buy it or not, get the discount on it and the deal they usually have (such as the first game free if it's a sequel).

Ah, fair enough. That is a legitimate reason really.

The majority of the time I'll use:
1.Amazon
2.Play
3.Shopto

If I'm out of the house and I see a game I want I'll usually go to either Game or HMV.

I don't think that was sarcastic. I think they genuinely believe that your reviewer status is a legitimate reason. I don't, but then I'm not a reviewer, I don't like reviews (I have a endency to be able to make entertainment decisions for myself, I'm weird like that.) but I do like familiarity which is why I always shop at Gamestop which used to be EB which used to be Software Etc. Basically from the same place I've always gotten them. I also am a BIG believer in supporting your local economy and to be honest I've tried online shops and found them slow, apathetic when it comes to customer service, and generally incompetent, but most importantly online outfits are the LEAST likely to return the money I pay them anywhere near my own ecconomy.

Why do we care where people buy their games? oh wait WE don't, but sometimes I forget that this isn't so much an informational website as it is a billboard. A billboard that even charges the more gullible.

eBay: It's ridiculously cheap.
Gamestop: Also cheap when I buy used (like Metal Gear Solid 4 for $8). And I buy new games from there on those rare occasions when I really want the game now because we don't have many other game vendors around here.

eBay for SHMUPs or titles I can't find anywhere in store. Or I'll head over to Microplay for cheapies, and occasionally EB Games for pre-orders and the occasional cheap rarity, like The Rub rabbits for 5 bucks! I love that game! I also bought NieR for 10 bucks. ...Strangely after I bought these games, their prices went up by 20 bucks each...

For PC games, I always use Steam.

For PS3 games, I generally look around for the best deal, not relying on one place in particular.

Steam. There's really not much better than crazy-awesome sales every weekend to make PC gaming awesome.

I tend to buy my games new at gamestop.* Also points cards.**
I buy my used games at a local used-game store.****

*Unless Wal Mart has the game I want in a discount bin (See: Nier for $10)
**Or at Toys 'R' Us if EB Games is out of the card I want.***
***Not that I condone such things.

Ebay or Steam. As an Australian I used to shop at Game/JB Hi-Fi, but the prices were just too ridiculous. When we spend $100-120 on a game when our dollar is basically as strong as the US is simply robbery as far as I'm concerned. Going online and buying the same games for $60-70 was the only reasonable choice.

The only times I buy retail now is for old, hard to find used games or midnight releases.

Amazon, Play.com and thehut.com for physical copies of games and Steam for digital copies. All of which are very reliable to purchase from.

I tend to buy online via Amazon or Play.com, I have used Steam on some occasions (Doom 2, Wolfenstein 3D, Portal and Half Life Expansions) but I prefer to have a physical copy of the game.
I buy online partially because I prefer to play on the PC and the nearest game stores barely have any but mostly because I live in the middle of nowhere so buying online is more convienient
