What do all you educated members of the Escapist think happens when one "moves on"?
I don't get this...

Why would we go anywhere...? We're a biological machine, if you will, once we stop working, we just do... We shut down... The end... When your computer stops working, does it go anywhere? No, it's just there, just doesn't work anymore. We live, we die, we become worm food. You're not really going anywhere... I mean, why would we?

The whole "move on" concept is just an illogical and irrational belief pushed on us by fear of death and ignorance.

Only place we're going is 6ft under.

For a less depressing answer than "You go in the ground and become worm food while you're basically having the longest blackout ever", I would say VALHALLA!!
That is all

Depends on when I die.
If I die before the age of about 40 (as I probably will) then I'd stay on earth as a Spirit, haunting my friends until they follow me in death and probably acting as a Poltergeist for anybody who pissed me off in life.
But If I live past 40 then technology will probably have progressed far enough that people will have stopped aging and dying and therefore i would Live forever and never die, course that is assuming we haven't destroyed the earth by then.

well, there are 2 options.

1 is you go to get cremated and your ashes get put in a lil vase in the living room.

or you get buried, and you start decomposing, which causes worms to slowly eat your rotting flesh, and pooping it back out in the form of nutrients for the earth which supports life for the plants and other small microbes around your grave.

I've no idea, i'm not someone who believes in god, but i'm also not someone who only believe in scienece. So my views on the 'afterlife' is there is one, are very conflicted. At the moment my philosophy would be that i'll find out when i die, or might not find out if anything doesn't happen, because i physically won't be able to comprehend it.

I read a quote once, think it goes like this:
"The prize we pay for our intelligence and selfawareness is the knowledge of death."

Which, in my opinion, explains why man has always had some form of religion.

OT:
After death, you are just dead. Either that or Valhalla!

There is no evidence to support any afterlife claims. So the prospect of dying is scary, but it is also exciting because we don't know what's going to happen.
When I find myself thinking too deeply about it, this is the sort of mindset I like to return to. The fact of our consciousness is so amazing, that we can ask questions like this is worth it in itself.

I think when we die, we instantly get reborn such as a newborn baby without feeling anything. It takes like a split second.
Yet it's examples like this that just perpetuate the common trend in afterlife belief; something that has no basis other than being self-serving.

I plan on the cremated remains of myself being turned into a diamond, like on that advert.

Too bad there won't be my conscious in existance to appreciate it.
Damn, talk about a mood killer. I was feeling happy until this thread...
